We got room 301, which had a swing on the balcony. Nice and clean environment, but we only stayed one night, so it's hard to say anything much about the place to do it justice.

Staff were very nice and friendly. Breakfast was simple but filling.

A very nice place to stay. Rooms were large and spacious, and the owner with staff was very helpful in giving us tips and ideas for our stay here.

Although a bit far from the city center, Zhiqiang Night Market is within walking distance. Getting taxi transportation further south can be difficult though, since the drivers rarely speak good english

We stayed here for 2 nights. We arranged for the minsu to take us from the Hualien train station (cost TWD100 only). We arrived at about 1.00 pm and the minsu staff asked if we wanted to have lunch as she could arrange for delivery service for a lunch box for us. The lunch box comprised local rice, stewed chicken, egg, toufu and vegetables. Delicious and cost only TWD70 per box. Our room was cool and ready when we checked-in as the staff actually switched on the air-con to cool the room while we were enjoying our lunch and coffee at the dining room. The staff also helped us to book a day tour for the next day to the Taroko Gorge. The tour bus picked up us from the minsu and send us back as well at the end of trip.

The minsu is within 10 mins walk to the Zhiziang night market serving typical Taiwanese food. Along the main road just outside the lane leading to the minsu, are two restaurants - one serving chinese food, the other western food. Opposite the restaurant is also a big fruit and vegetable market. We bought very fresh mangoes and guavas at reasonable prices from the market the morning before we depart for Taipei. Again, we arranged for the minsu to send us to the Hualien station for TWD100.

Booked the room on top floor for a night through Agoda.com and the whole booking process including payment went smoothly.

We personally had bad experience to find the homestay due to confusion between Mingzhi street right OFF Zhongshan road & Mingzhi road that is OFF ZhongYan road (central road), both Mingzhi are spelled the same alphabetically but they are different word in Chinese writing, also partly due to wrong direction given by Tourist information counter (the location of this homestay is out of the map of Hualien tourist guide) and wrong direction from hotel staff through phone, it took me about 3 hours to reach the place from Hualien train station in heavy rain.

After I got the direction right, the distance of this place is only 10 minutes driving distance to Hualien station, very convenient location indeed.

When we arrived at the homestay with rain soaked shoes, the owner offered to dry our shoes, very warm service!

However later we found out that the toilet bowl's water tank could not refill itself after flush, informed the staff immediately but there's no fix until we checked out, we understand that plumber work will create more mess and it was late, but perhaps the staff should check toilet function before the guest checks in moving forward.

Despite the hiccups, I still rate this hotel as very good as we can see the efforts they put in to give their guests good experience.

Pros:
1. Quiet place
2. Very clean & spacious room
3. Rooms are beautifully renovated
4, Toiletries are provided
5. Good value for money
6. Free bicycle for rental, if the weather is good, cycling to tourist spots like Hualien township and Nanbin night market is possible
7. Buffet style breakfast included, with nice coffee, tea, bread toasts and porridge served
8. Friendly boss and staff
9. Easy on-line booking
10. Fridge in the room
11. Air-con
12. Hot water available
13. Free flow drinks at the dining hall
14. Near to Hualien township
15. Can sign up for local tour at reasonable price
16. Foos ball available at lobby F.O.C
17. Parking space available

Cons:
1. Main door will be locked at night after all guests returned. Despite there's no written rules at the place, it's advisable that guests should not go back too late and don't go out in the midnight
2. Relatively new and not very well known to Hualien Tourist Information Center
3. A little bit hard to find the place for visitor who is unfamiliar with Hualien
4. Inconvenient access to public transport
5. There're nothing much to see outside of the homestay

Stayed in a room with a mountain view.

In terms of location, it is close to the Zhiqiang night market but quite from from the "golden triangle" shopping belt (there is not much to shop in Hualien by the way). The minsu owners can give you a ride to those busier areas for a token some (cheaper than taxi).

I would recommend this place as a launch pad for travelling to other tourist spots (Taroko or Hehuanshan). My taxi guide (Tiffany) would drop up in the city and we would head back to the quiet environments of Jimei after dinner. There is a balcony for my room to look at the night skies and you can see the stars on a good night.

Breakfast is quite boring (either bread of porridge with other sides) but expected for a small setup.

There is only Chinese shows on its TV but this is made up by the free Wifi.

You can borrow their bicycles and cycle through town. The roads are less busy here so it is safe.

Overall, I advise spending 2-3 nights maximum in Hualien.

Room Tip: Choose one facing the mountains.

My wife Eva and myself arrived to Jimei Homestay and discovered an excellent quality of service, friendly people, large and very comfortable rooms, spotless clean with nice wood floors, very acommodating bathroom.

Steven, owner and operator of the homestay is a very friendly gentleman, ready to help if needed, always of service. Every morning we enjoyed a generous breakfast acommodating every taste, wish and need.

Very, very recommendable address!

Room Tip: Ask Steven to drive you to the Taroco Gorges of the marble mountains. A great treat!

This is the first time we stayed in this B&B. The B&B is clean, pretty and very affordable. It is located nearby city center. The room has a queen size bed which offers you a good night sleep. Very nice homemade breakfast and friendly host. There is also a night market nearby, very convenient when you want to have some night treats at night. We like the yard, it made us feel very comfy. I will recommend this B&B to you.
