We look a taxi from our hotel (Garden Villa) to arrive at this Night Market which was about 10 minutes and cost $85. The taxi driver was a very good man. He cautioned us about our wallet and purse as there were plenty of people around. The Market itself was well-located with many hot food stores ranging from barbecues, steam boat, fried chicken and ducks! Also there were many stores selling daily necessities and memorabilia, for example, watches, electric clocks, tiny items of decorations, and also there were many woman clothing. I bought a watch for NT$290. We also bought some roasted egg buns and roasted partridge eggs as they were very nice. As for the hot dishes, we tried the fried bean curds with pickles. They were, however, cheaper than those we had tried at the night markets in Taipei. It took us a whole hour of walk before we finished touring the whole market, just because we were attracted by its exotic nature and the overcrowding of people. It was only Wednesday!

Ruifeng night market has become more and more popular, thanks to the wide variety of vendors they have. It's possible to spend all night in the market, including your dinner, buy some cloths or chic accessory. It’s reachable easily by red line metro, and you can arrange to visit the Hanshin Arena Shopping Plaza and the night market in the same evening, those are in the same metro station. The market always full of people, as soon as you enter the market, your will be push forward by the crowd and hardly to stop or turn round. Go by metro or taxi, avoids drive car or even ride a motorcycle, believe me, it’s hard to find a parking place.

Was introduced to this by a hotel staff in Taipei and from the tourist pamphlet that I picked up at the bus terminal. Was at Dream Mall prior to this an it was a little disappointing with very few visitors. Visited this subsequently and spent a good 2.5hrs there! I guess that's where everyone went as it was very crowded. Highly recommended and definitely much better than Liuhe night market which is more touristy. Not to mention the great street food and shopping experience (i found the variety to be slightly different from Liuhe and prefer the food here) Nice!!! Directions: Take the MRT to Kaohsiung Arena station (R14) and follow exit 1. The night market is just few minutes walk ahead. Look out for the directional signs.

Kaohsiung has local night markets in every district, which is really wonderful. Two famous ones, however, are Liuhe and Ruifeng night markets. Forget the rip-off Liuhe Night Market that caters to mainland Chinese tourists, who arrive by tour bus loads, in the downtown area. It may be fun to wander through Liuhe for a look, but prices here are very high - half only of a medium lobster tail will cost you $22 US!

Ruifeng Night Market, however, is the one locals go to, and prices are local and very affordable. Ruifeng is known as one of the largest and best night markets in Kaohsiung by the locals. There are about 1000 stalls and the market occupies an area of some 3000 sq. metres. They sell favourite Taiwanese food specialties, clothing, footwear, arts & crafts, makeup, and also have an arcade section for games. It is easy to get to too - only a block from Kaohsiung Arena metro stop.

Many restaurants line the perimeter of the market. There are hot pot restaurants where you choose the veggies, meat, seafood you want and sit at a table with a hot pot full of broth that you cook your food in and dip in sauces to eat. There are also restaurants serving sizzling cast iron hot plates of seafood, meats with spaghetti. You help yourself to the corn soup and cold drinks, which are included.

Ruifeng is so much fun you will want to go back again and again, if you have the time. Go early about 5 pm before the crowds arrive after work, as it will be difficult to maneuver your way through crowds between the narrow aisles between food stalls. The market closes about 11 pm.

It is easy to get to. Just take the Red line MRT, Kaohsiung Arena Station, Exit #1. It is about 200 meters west of the MRT station.

The food is good. It is "less" crowded when compared to LiuHe Night Market. Over the last 10 years, I have seen significant changes to LiuHe Night Market, where the food quality has gone down due to the influx of large volume of tourists. Local don't go there anymore.

One IMPORTANT note: RuiFeng Night Market is CLOSED on Monday and Wednesday! So, plan your trip accordingly.
