“Beautiful view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

This building was built in 1865, which already have 140 years in history. You can see and enjoy the sunset of Shi-Hzuwan(Bay) and harbor view of 1.Kaohsiung. But now the charge for admission is NT$30.

“Go there for brunch/lunch/afternoon tea, especially dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2014

I personally will not pay the NT30 admission just to go visit.

On another note, go to the restaurant there and have a snack or a drink, and the NT30 will be reimbursed by mean of a "coupon".

The night view is AWESOME. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful view, but not worth the ticket entry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2014

The museum itself was so so.. but if you go further and walked up the stairs, you'll get to the clif and will see Kaohsiung harbour and beautiful view. Have the ice cream while you are there, it was probably the best one I've had everywhere.

“Over-looking Kaohsiung harbour, great place for romantic sunset”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2013

Like the name suggested, it was the residence of the then British Consulate to Taiwan before the Japanese Occupation. Takao was the original name of Kaohsiung. According to the guide, the local tribe gave the city the name "Takao", meaning bamboo forest. The Japanese changed the name as "Takao" means "beating the dog".

Majority of the original building structure was destroyed during the bombing attacks of WWII. The only left standing is as I posted. Now the government is restoring the walkway from the residence to the consulate office, expecting to finish by this year.

They provide free guided tour in Mandarin at certain hours. Do check the website for details.

“Been there and that's it”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

I agree with other reviewers as a place to take some good pictures of sea and city skyline and of course the historic building itself (fyi, Taiwan does not have that many historic buildings). I wish I checked TA reviews before the trip since I did not know about those interesting Dutch gods in nearby temple. Definitely not a high priority place to go if you have limited time. There is a cafe at the top of the hill, a bit touristy though.
