“Fresh seafood and very inexpensive”

This restaurant is one of the many good choices of inexpensive seafood places in QiJin District, a historical fishing port off from Kaohsiung City. The Qijin District is accessible from Kaohsiung either by driving through an undersea tunnel or using a short distance ferry service. The ferry service can carry motorcycles but not cars. The restaurant's location is near the popular Qijin coastal park and beach. Fresh catches are displayed in water tanks and plastic tubs. There are many types of seafood that I have never seen before so I had to rely on restaurant's recommendation on how the food will be prepared. The customers can point at the fish, shrimps or crabs and the server will scoop them from the tank to make the dishes. The server typically will ask how the food will be cooked (steamed, deep-fried, or stir-fried, etc.). It is a little challenging if you do not know some seafood cooking. This seems to be the way the locals like to order the food. I picked this restaurant because it looks bright and busy. A busy restaurant is essential for getting fresh seafood. I have to admit that I do not know all the seafood on the plates I ordered, but all the dishes that came out are very tasty and inexpensive.

There are several seafood restaurants just behind Chichin beach at a walkable distance of 100-300 metres. The food is extremely affordable, and is best to go with a group of people. I went to one of the many restaurants there, I think it was called 'Wan Er' (not sure how to spell in English, but that's what it sounded like - can check out my photo for the restaurant name in Chinese). Purchased a booklet of 7 tickets at $100/ticket. These tickets were used to trade for a dish at one of the many counters within the restaurant and unused tickets can be refunded. Rice and tea is complimentary and self-serve. We had a group of four and used about 4-5 tickets. Though the food was not entirely seafood, there is actually a lot of non-seafood options including meats and veggies. I can imagine this place would be excellent for students, since rice is 'all you can eat,' and can be quite flavorful with the shareable main dishes.
