“Nice little hotel close to the sea”
Reviewed 12 October 2012

I stayed in this hotel alone (as the lady could not come along) for two nights, and have to say it was overall an enjoyable stay. You can get there by taking the express bus from Kaohsiung and getting off at Chateau Hotel (xia-du), then walking along the road a little, turn right into another road after the McDo and walking along that road for a bit. It is possible that you can get out one stop further, but I did not want to risk it, personally.

(You can get to Kaohsiung from Taipei via the High Speed Rail [HSR], taking the bus from the terminal station in Kaohsiung. Or, from Taipei airport, take the shuttle bus to the closest HSR station, and take the train from there.)

I got a room on the second floor, relatively close to the lobby. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable. The room included a TV with quite a few channels, including about 10 English-language ones (no channel guide, but I don't find that to be an issue). The hotel was quiet enough, I had no issues with noise at any time.

The bathroom was a positive surprise - it is quite spacious for this size of hotel, bigger actually than the ones you get at Chateau Hotel down the road.

Breakfast can be had two house down the road - you get a voucher from the hotel for the breakfast there. You have the choice between three foods - sandwich, burger or mixed. I am not a breakfast person, so again no issue there, just right. The only peeve was that the breakfast place did not have coffee at all, just a (rather sweet) black tea.

The staff was friendly, even though they only had very limited knowledge of English we managed to communicate fine. They even asked if I wanted the room cleaned - since I was alone, and only staying two nights, I found it a waste and said no.

Overall, very good value-for-money.

you cannot beat the location. the hotel is on a quiet street but is only 1 min from the main street of kenting. the seaview of the room is good.

the decor is modern. but the toilet is smelly and requires a major clean up.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel in October 2007 when it just opened.Back then it didn't have a name and they were still building the lobby area.
The manager of this hotel is very very friendly and extremely helpful. They didn't serve any breakfast then, but they did provide 24/7 free coffee and tea.A nice touch.
It's very close to the beach and the main street. It was very quiet seeing that Kenting can get quite busy.
We loved the bathroom and the space. We stayed in a VIP room with a huge bathroom and a great jacuzzi! All in all a great experience.Would love to go back.

Location: On a rather calm beach front road in a row with similar small hotels. Close to Kenting's busy main street, but not affected by traffic noise. A few yards to a white sandy beach. Restaurants and shops are abundant in town serving all tastes
Hotel: Ground floor with 4 rooms, 3 upper floors with 6 rooms each. Upper floors have 2 balcony rooms facing the sea, 2 facing the back and 2 rooms with no outside windows. The whole place is very clean. We had the large 2 twin room 301, which was very luxurious. Much space, large flat screen TV, ample closet, 2 ethernet plugs (free broadband), 2 comfortable twin beds, desk, effecient aircon, extra large bathroom with a round spa bathtub large enough for three, balcony. The rate was NT 2,500 (maybe because we came in the middle of the week and stayed for 4 nights). The people running the place are very friendly, but speak only little English.

MY TRAVEL STYLE: If possible, I try to stay away from business and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences and I encourage you to view hotels I have stayed at and their respective reviews (by clicking on my name).

LOCATION: Very good. Off on a quiet side road away from the craziness of town and closer to the beach. A not too busy road separates this hotel from the ocean.

BEST WAY TO GET THERE: We drove our own car for about 2.5-3 hours from Kaohsiung.

TYPE OF ROOM: Standard non-ocean view.

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed is very soft with better than average linens. Pillows are way too thick.

LIGHTING: Excellent lighting in bathroom and sufficient in bedroom.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Our first room had the shower in the bathtub with no curtain and water would get everywhere. 2nd room had no bathtub but had glass protecting the water from getting all over the bathroom floor.

TOILETRIES: None provided beyond a wall unit that dispenses shampoo and soap. Recommend bring your own.

CLEANLINESS: Entire hotel seems to be brand new and is very clean.

A/C: A little louder than normal, but quickly got the room cool if desired.

CLOSET SPACE: Both of our rooms had no closet or drawers.

STYLE OF ROOM: The décor of the rooms are very impressive and outstanding for the US$25-$35/night we paid for a room. First room had a window that looked out upon the inside of the building (no view at all) so we switched rooms to get a window and natural light.

QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: We could hear some footsteps from the room above when we were at our first room but it wasn’t a big deal. 2nd room is on the 5th floor with no one above us and therefore was very quiet. First room really had no window and so there wouldn’t be any morning sun light coming through.

FOOD: No food is served at this hotel

TV/INTERNET: Flat screen TVs in both rooms are of good size. Wired only internet if very fast and provided at no charge.

SERVICE: Staff is very friendly but speaks little English.

COMMON AREA: Very stylish and definitely one of the best lobby’s in town (very small). We walked by nearly all other hotels

ROOM & CITY TIPS: Higher rooms will have better views. The only really good views are those facing the sea (we never saw one). Our view facing the other direction was of other buildings and nothing special. If you want the least expensive room, inquire about the one without windows looking to the outside. The best beach we found was Baisha bay. Transporation is really important in this area to see the park, either rent a car (Kaohsiung) or rent a moped (may need int’l drivers permit). We checked out the Chateau which wanted $130/night and the bathroom was terrible and the room was nothing special. We were so happy we didn’t book a room there. Probably the only hotel with better rooms in town would be the Caesar park, but I doubt it’s worth paying nearly ten times the price for it. This town surprisingly has many really well done hotels that are right next to one another and the competition is fierce for both making the hotel stand out as well as on prices charged to the guests. If you don’t book here, and you are here on a weekday, a good idea may be to just show up and look around to find the one you like best. I doubt though, that you will find one that you like better than this one.

  • Liked — Modern design & incredible price
  • Disliked — First room shower flooded floor (2nd room was fine)
