“Great Place for coming and going”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

I stayed at the Outpost Lodge in Arusha before and after our Kilimanjaro hike and also before and after our safari! The hotel is nice - there is a pool but we were there when it was a little cooler out and so we did not use it at all. A nice patio area outside around the pool with chairs, umbrellas, and lounge chairs. The restaurant associated with the hotel is great and there are lots of choices. Outpost is located a short walk from the city center of Arusha - we had a walking guide take us around. Not too many other places to walk around outside the hotel though. internet is available only in the patio/office area is spotty and uses up your battery pretty quick. no wi-fi in rooms which in my opinion is fine - its not why you are there :) The rooms were comfortable - we had a triple and found it to be just fine. There must have been a security building near us because at night there were dogs barking until late - I still slept ok but if you are a light sleeper you might want a room on the "inside" area near the patio etc. The hot water was ok for the most part - I think when there are large groups either coming from safari or hiking at once and everyone wants a shower then there is a chance for less hot water. On our last night only one of us was able to shower as the water went cold but it was ok the next morning. There is no AC or Heat in rooms but again we were quite comfortable with the provided blanket at night. Good and safe storage area for belongings while on safari or hike. Overall good place to stay; very welcoming people; good price.

Room Tip: Pick on near the patio and I think the dog barking wont be as bad; maybe also pick a room near the p...

This is standard, basic accommodation, with pleasant and helpful staff. Didn't have a great deal of hot water. Bathroom floor tiles are very slippy upon stepping out of the shower. However, given our trip was an 8 day Kilimanjaro trek it seemed like luxury upon return from the mountain! Food was surprisingly good. I would describe as value for money. Had we wanted an extended stay after the trek (we only had the one night) then I would have booked a higher end hotel. Overall it does what it says on the tin!

Room Tip: Try to avoid a room overlooking the restaurant/bar as groups of people returning from successful mou...

We spent two nights, before and after our safari, at the outpost lodge. Staff is friendly, rooms are very clean and luxurious.
The breakfast buffet is nice.
The restaurant is pleasant (around the swimming pool).
This is an excellent value that I highly recommend.

My mum and I stayed here for 3 nights and the food is so delicious! The smimmingpool is small but clean (for African standerds). The rooms are ok, clean and the bathroom is nice with 'real stones'. We have had a good stay here and the staff is very friendly.

I feel this lodge is a bit too run down for their prices. The shower is hilarious to say the least, the faucet got so hot we had trouble turning it off. The hot-cold combination was more like a murder mystery that needed to be solved, the tv was the size of probably a big tablet and the mosquito nets were torn.

In all for this price I was happier staying at Planet Lodge, yes they are probably 20 odd dollars more expensive but it is worth the difference.

Close to the city, but still quiet enough to feel like a bit of a break. Relax by the pool, enjoy excellent (if sometimes terribly slow) meals, and keep an eye out for monkeys! Recommended as a pre- or post- Kilimanjaro option.

Room Tip: The rooms in M block were very nice.

Outpost Lodge is centrally located in Arusha, less than one kilometer from the Clock Tower, along a quiet street. We stayed there for one night before our Camping Safari began. The street was dark in the evening, so we did not venture outside.

Our room was well appointed. The skylight allowed sunlight in, which is a nice touch. Running hot water and a shower with soap and shampoo were available in the neat bathroom.

The restaurant has a well stocked bar and a wide menu. The buffet breakfast spread in the morning was quite good (fruits, bread, butter, jam, cereal, milk, eggs to order, tea, coffee).

WiFi is available at no charge in the reception area. The grounds are well maintained.

Polite and hospitable staff in the restaurant, grounds and reception.
