“A home away from home”
Reviewed 11 May 2014 via mobile

I have stayed at Kundayo many times now and each time is a delight. Mazo and his staff do that little bit extra to make your stay memorable.
It is not a luxury lodge, but it is very comfortable stay. If you are in Africa you should have an African experience and you will be pleased with this one.
Highly recommended.

When visiting in Arusha I used the Kundayo for my home base and it truly felt like home. Mazo and the rest of the staff went out of their way to take very good care of me and my things. It was nice to come back from each time away and see the familiar faces smiling and welcoming. I spent time alone there and felt safe and comfortable. Chef worked to feed me local cuisine, tempting me to expand my taste buds. It felt like family and I know when I'm back I look forward to seeing everyone once more.
The rooms are comfortable and clean. Quiet and yet handy to walk downtown to the markets and coffee shops.

If you are looking for a comfortable, clean, safe, casual, affordable place to stay outside of Arusha, this is the place for you. Mazzo (the owner) is committed to customer service and satisfaction and he and his staff do go the extra mile to make sure each and every guest feels welcome and at home.

As other reviews mentioned, Wi Fi can be spotty, but we found it was usually fairly reliable in the central restaurant building. We enjoyed the camaraderie of others as we enjoyed a glass of wine or coffee on the front porch while working on our various tech devices.

The food at the restaurant is excellent and the staff helpful and wanting to please, but we did have two key learnings:
(1) Breakfast - make sure to let the staff know what you do and do not like. The first day we were served a nice breakfast, but not all of us liked certain things. It took us a couple of days to find our voices and realize the staff wanted our feedback.
(2) Timing esp. dinner - all meals are fresh and delicious, but at our first dinner we experienced a long wait from when our order was placed until when we received our main courses. What we found worked best was when we placed our orders, left to take showers and freshen up, and then came back closer to when food would be ready. For families with children, I'd suggest placing food orders and timing with the staff in the morning so that timing expectations can be managed for all.

On the morning of our departure, we decided to host 20+ orphans and asked Mazzo and his staff if they could accommodate a buffet luncheon and movie on the grounds for that afternoon. Working together, we worked out a menu that accommodated staff and our needs, figured out how to get our computers to attach to the TV for the movie, and the afternoon exceeded all expectations. Everyone walked away with smiles and special memories.

I look forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: If you have special needs or need certain amenities, talk with Mazzo.

I stayed at Kundayo with my husband and 3 small children last year and then stayed again this year with a group of adults. Both stays revealed consistency in cleanliness, safety and friendly service. Wi-fi connection was good, too (not always the case in TZ). ALL of the staff we encountered were lovely; attentive, friendly and they all offered to help with whatever we needed (including directions, taxis, maps, umbrellas, computer help, special meal requests, etc.). The owner, Mazzo, is very professional but also the kind of person who has a big heart. We brought 20+ lock orphans to spend the afternoon with us in the courtyard and to watch a movie and have lunch. He could not have been more accommodating. Enjoy your stay at this great place.

Great stay for affordable lodging off the expensive tourist grid. I had a kitchen-apartment which was always kept clean and neat by the staff. Security is good and the location is within walking distance of the town. Mazo, the owner, makes every effort to make your stay rewarding. Whatever I needed: a local map, directions to baber shop, suggestions for grocery stores-Mazo was there to help. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Internet is good enough, given the usual limitations one finds in Arusha. My only caveat is that the surrounding neighborhood can be rather noisy at times-roosters, church chanting, and mosque prayers start booming well before dawn-so bring earplugs.

I just left the Kundayo apartments after 3 incredible months and it really did feel like a home away from home.

Not much can be said that hasn't been said already, the staff were great (Mazo is the man!), the restaurant serves delicious food and the location is very handy.

I look forward to returning soon :)

We had a great experience there! At first, the communication with Mazo by mail was fast and clear. And he was always there to help with informations or reservations once we were there. We took the option for the airport pickup (which is expensive for tourist but is the same price everywhere).

The room was clean, beds confortables, kitchen contain the essential. Hot water shower (a big WOW after climbing the Kilimanjaro). I spend hours in the hammock in the nice backward and close to the fireplace.

The restaurant is really good and cheap. Sebastien made the difference by his presence as our waiter. The option to wash your clothes is easy and cheap.

Only one negative point: a 20 minutes walk to the clock tower...

We really loved this place and recommand it all the way !!!!!
