“Hotel with outstanding staff, great location, and high value.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2012

We stayed at the African Tulip three nights - one before a safari and two nights afterward. We were so impressed with the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. The hotel was quiet, peaceful, and yet nestled in the heart of Arusha. The rooms were spacious and filled with thoughtful amenities. The manager and reception staff made time to explain a map and give explicit walking directions to local craft markets, restaurants, etc, as well as call a good, clean taxi to take us to areas outside of walking distance. The restaurant staff and food quality was outstanding. The selection was diverse including both local foods, as well as Indian, American, Italian, etc. We often had wine by the pool, enjoying the flowers, and then moved into the dining room. In the evenings, which can be cool, the wait staff brought us a lovely charcoal ember stand to keep us warm. It was quite charming. The rooms were very clean and included cute window seat areas overlooking beautiful flowers. The setting was truly lovely. In addition, our flight didn't leave until 9pm. The hotel staff wanted us to be comfortable and let us stay in our room as late as we wanted without charging us for an extra night staff. The African Tulip is truly a lovely hotel and very well priced. We hope to stay there again.

We stayed here a couple of nights at the end of our safari and thoroughly enjoyed it - compact, attractively done up in Africanesque style (we had a zebra-themed room), nice toiletries, very good breakfasts and restaurant/room service, swimming pool & bar and good location within easy walking distance of centre/a few decent restaurants and next to Roy Safaris.

Only gripe (which we mentioned to the manager) was the music in the restaurant - AWFUL and repeated ad nauseum. If any future guests hear Spanish classical guitar music, that is thanks to us as we donated one of my husband's CDs to improve this.

And the desk staff had no idea about how to reconfirm flights on KQ from Nairobi.

But very minor gripes.

I loved my stay at the African Tulip. The staff was attentive and did their best to address any requests. When I couldn't find a shop that I wanted to go to in Arusha, the manager sat with me and made calls to find the shop for me. They really do go the extra mile. Internet was included in the room rate and quite reliable. The food was good, although the selection was slightly limited. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone going to Arusha- whether a business traveler or for holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool facing room with a bay window. Really relaxing to sit there with a book.

We stayed one night at the beginning of our safari and used another room prior to departing the country at safari’s end. We have been to the African Tulip on previous trips and were not disappointed with this stay. The room (#10) seemed exceptionally large. Exchange rate was 1,500 t. shillings per $1US a bit lower than the 1,532 we got at the bank just down the street. Enjoyed soda and nuts poolside while we read and enjoyed sunbirds and others. The evening meal of clear broth chicken soup, rolls and pork chops with chips and veggies was very good and quite filling. The meal with 3 sodas and 1 beer came to 54,000 t.shillings. Used the business center for a quick e-mail to family. The Internet was quite prompt. Staff were quite friendly and accommodating. Our room was quiet and we had plenty of hot water. The breakfast buffet had variety. Given the overall quietness of the African Tulip it is difficult to realize one is in the city! Our day room, actually a regular room, was very adequate for showering and relaxing before heading to the airport. We enjoyed another lunch in the Tulip’s Baobab Restaurant. Would not hesitate to stay there again. As room was included in overall safari package can not adequately rate "value".

We stayed in Arfican Tulip for 1 night before our safari with Roy Safaris, who owns the place and has the office just around the corner. We really enjoyed our stay there after long trip from Russia. Hotel is not big and was very calm in the beginning of May. Rooms are spacious and decorated very nicely. We had lunch in the restaurant and it was absolutely ok. People at the reception did there best trying to solve my problem with luggage and documents with Precision Air late in the night and early in the morning. We also appreciated very much how the staff cares about tourists' safety. Great hotel and very helpful staff.

We stayed in African Tulip for 1 night before staring our Safari. We were tired after a long journey and hops from India and African Tulip was the right choice that provided us the comfort and rest needed. They gave us a free upgrade to a family room and it was very spacious. The rooms were all very well done and the interiors was good. We got some Indian food from the restaurant and it was good as well. The Manager personally checked with us that everything was fine and we were comfortable. I highly recommend this place for a stay in Arusha.
