“Genuine warmth at a Lovely Boutique Hotel”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights in September before heading off to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and 1 night after the climb. Lovely boutique hotel. Nice room. Management and staff were very friendly and attentive. Stayed on the ground floor, which was a bonus, as I didn't have to negotiate the stairs after the Kili climb. I was greeted with genuine warmth on my return. Enough choices at the breakfast and dinner buffets to mix things up a bit and not make for repetitious meals. That being said, please add a generous tip for the waitering staff as the surcharge that appears on your bill is exactly that - and not a tip.

Room Tip: No elevator, so if that's a problem, get a room on the ground floor.

Flew into Kilimanjaro and stayed just one night here. The staff was wonderful and the rooms expansive. A great way to ease into the Safari to come. The food was good but geared toward European travelers, not Americans. I would Definetely stay here again.

I recently stayed at this hotel - two nights prior to leaving on safari and two nights upon returning.

The staff are exceptional - very warm, very welcoming and very accommodating. The decor is lovely and the hotel is clean. The showers are warm - a luxury after safari - and the beds are comfortable. We had mainly buffet dinners and breakfasts and the food was good and plentiful (the coffee is the best).

The pool/patio area is appropriate for the hotel size with a small bar/lounge area that serves drinks and lunches.

There is a bank a few metres down the street from the hotel and a small grocery store around the corner at a neighbouring hotel. You can walk to the central market from the hotel and there is a small fruit market at the end of the street.

They have a computer room with several pc's and internet access is $3 for 15 min's or $10 for 24 hrs access and we had no accessing issues.

They have two, small on-site shops - one for tanzanite jewellery and one for souvenirs. The prices are comparable and when we requested something that they did not have, they actually brought it in specifically.

I would stay at this hotel again and would definitely recommend it to anyone else planning on travelling to Arusha.

Don't usually go on to review places I have stayed but I depended on reviews to plan my trip to Africa so wanted to share my thoughts with others looking to do the same. The Africa Tulip was a wonderful place to start our safari. We arrived late at night after traveling a very long time. They greeted us warmly with fresh juice-upgraded us to a lovely suite and made us feel very welcome. The room was very clean. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We returned here at the end of our safari and spent a leisurely day at the pool before returning to the airport. Everything was top notch!

It is owned by Roy Safaris and like all their work it is simply perfect. The room was big and comfortable and the baobab restaurant very pleasant.
The staff is polite and competent. Even if it was just for one night, we had a beautiful stay.

I'd visited this hotel but never stayed here until recently. This is really a lovely smaller property with very good customer service. I say this in the context of what customer service is in Tanzania. It's not possible to rate the service in Tanzania the way one rates in developed nations as it's just not the same level. All the staff from the manager to the room cleaners, front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.

The decor is very nice, the common areas welcoming. I like that they've used coconut wood instead of unsustainable hard wood in many areas. The rooms are nicely furnished with a large bathroom and shower with great hot water also tea/coffee and kettle in the room plus a safe. I also think there was a small fridge. There's a nicely stocked shop and a lovely pool area. I prefer smaller places like this and this one really stands out in Arusha. We only ate breakfast here which was very good and we did have to pay about $10 for 24 hours of wireless which I think should be free everywhere. We needed some copies made and they didn't charge us. I'd definitely stay here again.

We spent the night here before and after hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro. The hotel was charming and the staff accomodated our every need. After returning dusty and tired from 8 days on the trail, staff greeted us with a refreshing glass of mango juice, handed us our stored luggage and valuables, swiftly showed us to our rooms where, as we showered off days worth of dirt, they cleaned our boots to within an inch of looking new (how did they do that??). A great tasting buffet dinner with plenty of variety in the hotel restaurant ended the evening. A buffet breakfast with omelets made to order and expresso coffees returned us to civilized life the next morning. The hotel is within a 5 min walk to the downtown area which enabled us to see some sights in Arusha before heading to the airport.
