“Nice stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

I stayed at the Arusha backpackers after completing a climb to kilimanjaro, and it was exactly what i needed after a long exhausting 7 days in the mountain. I had a single room, it was very small with a strong fan which was very useful in the heat of february. The size of the room was not an issue for me , as i only used it to sleep and spent the rest of my time in the rooftop recovering from my climb. Staff is nice , however they will not not go out of their way and not vey knowledgable about the area, restaurants etc. terrace was comfortable, with average wifi and decent food. They offer laundry, and it is expensive . They probably know that post kilimanjaro everyone needs everything washed and taking advantage of it. Overall enjoyed my stay and met other travelers and it was good location to get around. Definitely recommend it .

I slept in the room number 204. it is really narrow, there is no mosquito-net, the fan is really noisy and the room wasn't very clean, at night you can even see cockroaches walking around...

Moreover, I book with the reception a taxi at 2:45 am to go to the airport. The taxi never arrive and i received no help from reception. Their service is not reliable.

Had to chuckle at the previous comments. Yes we sat at the bar and ordered food and guess what. Yes you guessed it, they got the order wrong. But we chilled guys and ate it anyway. and the food and bar area are really nice. Bit difficult finding parking if you riding a vehicle. Otherwise pleasant stay

Rooms and showers are all quite fine but the rooftop bar is just horrible. Service is bad, waiters don't understand orders.
Tried ordering food here about 6 times within 3 days. Out of these 6 there were always multiple things not availible, you always got it atleast 40 minutes late after ordering ( this includes just a mango juice). Tastes are bad.
The bar's a good place to meet people though, that's about it...

Room Tip: Check if the fan works and get a room with a window.

It's clean and very basic - although it meets all the basic needs, I didn't find any reason to return here or recommend it to others, apart from the price.

The rooftop bar was quiet and the service terrible when we were there. Wifi wasn't working, food was really bad. Not the friendly backpackers experience I'm used to.

But the showers are hot and the sheets are clean, so for US$20 for a private room, it's a good option in this price bracket.

One of my most favorite places to go when in Arusha. literally follows the description of a backpackers. (cheap, basic, and fun). The rooms are small, and there are only communal showers, but that is all you can ask for with such a reasonable price. The main selling point of this backpackers is the bar! It is by far one of the best i have been to.amazing African design, awsome views, and a real good layout for socializing.

The only problem with this place is that i have heard of a lot of theft from rooms, although this has never happened to me, it has happened on many occasions to other people while i am there, but they do clearly say to you that you shouldn't keep valuables in your room, so if you follow the rools of the hostel, you shouldn't have a problem.

Our room was pretty miserable - with a window onto the corridor which made it very dark and quite loud. We stayed here before and after a Safari, and it was a good place to meet other travellers - the rooftop bar was nice. HOWEVER, while on Safari I realised that $200 had gone missing from my money belt (money was rolled up - so I hadn't noticed before, and we couldn't work out when this had happened). We later realised it must have been at this hotel, as, after going back here after our Safari, another $100 went missing from our room. Yes, it was really stupid of us to leave our valuables in the room but on this 2nd occasion we were literally only grabbing some food upstairs in the restaurant. So although it was probably our fault, it still should not have happened and I would avoid this place because of that - and also because of the dark, loud rooms.
