“Alot of plusses - But a few minuses!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

This lodge has been here for quite a few years, and is frequently used as a starting point for group tours/safaris. We were here as part of an Overseas Adventure Travel safari trip in July 2014. The rooms are fine, the service pretty good, and the grounds are beautiful! The food service is typical - basically good, with lots of fresh salad items, meat and vegetarian stews, and great soups. Everyone who stays here eventually remarks about the unbelievable early morning noise that emanates from a church and a healing center that is on an adjacent piece of property. It is loud, it starts early (6:30am) - and despite the efforts of the lodge owners to get them to turn down the loud speaker system - nothing changes. Our trip guide made sure that we had rooms as far away from the noises as possible - so try for units # in the high 20's. Try NOT to get rooms numbered in the single digits (1 though 6)! The lodge has a decent pool, an unexciting lobby, and a reasonable gift shop. Do not plan on going out for a walk - the lodge is within a walled area, with an effective security staff - so you are clearly safe. The surrounding neighborhood is probably fine - but not to general US standards. We did get a "tour", with escort, to visit the next door church. WOW! There were at least 1200-1500 people in there, with a high volume, highly motivated preacher who was REALLY effective in getting the crowd excited. After this, we understood why there was so much noise!. The Olasiti Lodge is a good place to stay as part of a group - or at least if you are going to be escorted or taken care of by tour guides.

Room Tip: Get a room with a high number - Wi-Fi was not in the rooms, but wired service was available in the l...

The Olasiti Lodge is situation in a compound on the outskirts of Arusha, Tanzania. My first impressions of this place were positive. Nice grounds, large, clean rooms, and main lodge which includes a bar, restaurant and huge lobby area. They also have decent wifi for a $10 charge. The facility also has a nice swimming pool but I did not observe anyone using it.

Unfortunately, the Olasiti has a big problem. Noise...lots and lots of noise! Situated next door is a large gospel church which blasted chanting, music and singing through loud speakers at very extreme volume! Now I know I have a hearing loss, but in my case, I had no problem hearing all this racket through out the early morning and evening hours....even in my room!

Eliminating or reducing the overbearing chanting, singing and music from the church next door is very necessary if this Lodge is going to survive. Most travelers don't come to Africa to be blasted by chanting and singing at all hours of the night!

Would I stay here again? Absolutely not....unless I lose my hearing all together !

Room Tip: Forget this place unless you're deaf.

A great mid range, well priced lodge, with attentive staff, good service, comfortable, clean rooms, good shower, lush and lovely gardens. Ideal for a well deserved rest and Arusha overnight for birders and budget travellers. I really enjoyed the bed endowed with a mosquito net, clean perfumed sheets, great pillow and the perfect matress hardness for me…had a great sleep. The lush gardens provided great birding and two species of monkeys and all the silent and serenity required for a good rest and break away from the hustle and bustle of Arusha street noise. Few down sides, whilst my breakfast was delicious and copious, the meat that was served with my dinner was over cooked, dry and almost brittle. Rooms are a walk away from reception and my room (30) seemed the furthest to get to, lower numbers may be marginally closer. Probably not the most centrally located lodge in Arusha, but there was a plethora of transport options outside the lodge’s gate and travel company in the premises that would arrange for anything required. The owner of Olasiti Lodge also owns several other lodges in Tanzania so great package deals can be arranged through him.

Room Tip: The rooms are pretty spread out, I liked the remoteness of mine because it was tranquil and quiet af...

With its pool and garden setting, the lodge is only 10 steps from a heavy dose of local life. A huge non-denominational gospel church with loud speakers is next door, but begins at 6 a.m. some mornings. To venture in is an amazing experience especially when the cross is borne thru the hall.A few steps from the church is a teeming street scene with dirt sidewalks, shops, jitney vans,a movie theater (Indian videos on a TV),,,etc.Large lobby with bar, coffee table Africa books, gift shop.Rooms differ in size from large to small , motel-like. Cook-to-order eggs/omeettes with breakfast buffet.

Arrived early Sat afternoon to hear raucous noise from next door (sounded like football riot). We were told it was a church service - on a Saturday? Noise did not abate the entire time we were there. Took us to rooms out the back - 2nd floor, room covered in dust, bathrooms had chipped/cracked/missing tiles, heat was unbearable but no ceiling fans, pulled back cover on bed to find dirty sheets. Went back downstairs to complain, found that Reservations don't open on Sat afternoon and Reservations had the only phones that could ring out. Had to pay porter for use of his mobile phone to organise to get out group removed to a different hotel. Other that the porter, none of the staff were helpful, property is run down, in need of refurbishment, noise from next door appalling. Avoid this hotel unless you are a back packer on the cheap.

Room Tip: Left as quickly as possible…. this may pass for 3 star in Arusha, but it is no more than basic back...

The property itself is very pretty, rooms lack some basic amenities, no where to put toiletries in bathroom, no outlets in some room for hairdryer, so bring extension cord. One of the first rooms we stayed in was unacceptable, towels damp. sheets stained and pillow lumpy. Just not clean.
Second room 9, next to the church where the music goes on until 12:30pm, and starts at 6:00am. I can't begin to describe the blasting noise of the speakers facing outwards so everyone gets the benefit of their evangelical chanting and shouting. I believe the United Nations declared that the use of this technique was torture at Abu Grabe.
Food adequate, nothing special, internet slow. There are better places to stay here

We stayed in this delightful setting in December as part of a group. The staff was professional, friendly and accommodating. The pool was beautiful although nearly freezing by comparison to the tropical heat. Monkeys play next to the pool and they are wonderful to watch.

Here's the rub - there is a megachurch next door that begins broadcasting loudly through amplified speakers at six or six-thirty each morning. We could not even shout over the noise at breakfast. It only lasted about an hour and then some wonderful gospel music filled the silence. NOT the place to stay if you want to sleep past sunrise!

Room Tip: Rooms are a bit quieter on the far side of the creek.
