Had found Songota Falls on TripAdvisor and was so happy I did! We stayed here early Feb for 2 1/2 days before our safari. The reviews are correct....Joyce is a wonderful chef! For two weeks afterward, I compared every other lodge/tented camp's soup to Joyce"s. She definitely came out on top! Her creative healthy drinks with fresh fruits/veggies are awesome! The huts were very comfortable with a fantastic view. Yes, there were monkeys playing in the trees. The location is wonderful for it is outside of the hustle and bustle of Arusha and yet still close enough to visit for shopping, etc. Joyce is such a wonderful warm human being, is so helpful, and is involved in her community. She has an admirable background in business, a woman with much determination and intelligence. Her son, Raymond, is a talented artist and showed us around Arusha which was wonderful. We also took some other excursions, hiking around Lake Duluti and more. Without reservation I would definitely recommend Songta Falls Lodge for your Arusha stay.

Joyce, the owner of Songota Falls, is really a lovely person who wants to help everybody. She will make your stay comfortable and she knows what the guests want. She can and will arrange everything for you.
The place of the huts/cabins is beautiful and quiet. The huts/cabins are great, especially for that price in Tanzania! Except of that, Joyce is really a good cook! The African food is delicious and Joyce makes it a real party for you! You also can follow a cooking lesson with her.
One word for Songota Falls: fantastic!!!

Stayed here after a safari and it was the perfect retreat to recover from weeks of camping and dirtiness. Joyce was exceedingly nice and welcoming. The food was unbelievably good. Can't recommend this lodge enough.

We stayed in Songota Falls for two nights before our Kili climb and one night after we descended. They picked us up from the airport and our flight was 1.5 hours late. The lodge is peaceful and wonderful. The views are fantastic. The meals were delicious. The monkeys in the trees were curious. I always have trouble sleeping, but there, I slept like a tree alone in a forest under moss. Most importantly is Joyce herself. She is an absolute angel - a genuine mench. My husband's mother died while we were climbing. We found out the night we came back from Kili. We had no idea how to change our flights on such short notice. We needed to go back to Chicago the following day. Joyce called her friend who works for KLM and had our flights changed. Additionally, she helped us return our next-day tickets to Zanzibar. I just don't know how to praise her enough. She is just amazing in her gentle, kind, motherly ways. I wish her and her family all the best. Without her help we would never have made it to the funeral.

Songota Falls Lodge is located outside of Central Arusha up in the hills and is the perfect place to unwind (especially after a safari or Kilimanjaro climb). It's only about a ten minute taxi ride to town, or you can hike down a beautiful trail, past a waterfall to the main road where you can catch a daladala into town.
A lot of people have mentioned Joyce's cooking as being one of the highlights and they are not exaggerating, some of the best meals we had in Tanzania were cooked by Joyce. Especially when you combine her food with the view of the falls and valley from the dining area.
The rooms are a nice size, well decorated and they're a great bargain for individual travelers. The beds are very comfortable and there is hot and cold water. There isn't wifi, although Joyce does have a computer that you can use. Some people have mentioned the power as being an issue. If you spend anytime in Tanzania, you will realize that power outages are a regular occurrence, even in the city.
Overall, it's a really beautiful place to stay and unwind.

Songota Falls lodge is the perfect combination of hospitality, nature, culinary delights, comfort and simplicity. Set in the hills outside Arusha, the lodge offers breathtaking views, great hiking and a wonderful place to kick back and relax. The location itself is amazing but it is also paired with the best food I've had in Tanzania. Joyce, Ray and the rest of the staff are incredibly accommodating and ready to help with anything, from planning a safari to helping you around Arusha town. Rooms are decorated with lovely local art and are clean, spacious and comfortable. I have visited the lodge four times and really can't say enough good things about it! I will continue to return as much as possible, it really is the best Tanzania has to offer!
