This hotel was quite clean and very spacious and cozy. We were 14 of us and we also thoroughly enjoyed the Shanghai Chinese restaurant close to it with some true, yummy and organic food. We found it convenient to move to other places and it was located at the heart of town which saved us a lot on transport.

Room Tip: the double rooom were much better than the triple ones. shanghai chinese food was better than the ho...

McEllys are doing a good job of providing a reasonably priced hotel to cater for those of us who want a clean, secure, and comfortable room in Arusha but don't want to be charged crazy tourist prices. The hotel is one block back from the main road, is a few blocks from the bus station, a few blocks from the big supermarket and local markets. Rooms are not huge but have comfortable beds with nets. The hot water can be a bit hit and miss. Just ring the front desk and magically hot water will normally appear a little later! The restaurant is clean and offers a small selection of food that caters to the local business people who tend to stay here. They also have a back up generator which comes in handy in Tanzania. Great for solo women travelers too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up to minimize street noise.

This hotel is exactly what a budget traveller needs from one or two nights stay before or after a safari!

Pros:
- Reception promptly responded to my price and room availability request (I think it was the quickiest response ever, maybe in one hour) !!!
- Price was OK, I think it was aound 60 USD per room per night
- They did not want us to pay any money in advance !!!
- All in all this was one of the most comfortable reservations I ever made !!!

- Rooms are quite small, but very clean, equipped with A/C, LCD TV, with comfortable beds with mosquito nets. Room was quiet during the night, no noise at all was coming from outside the street, although the hotel is centrally located.

- Hotel itself looks new and well mantained
- Breakfast was fine, a buffet style

- I really appreciated that the hotel manager showed up, intruduced himself and was helpful. At hotels of this size, this in not usual, and we really appreciated his interest.

Cons:
- This is strange, but I can not realise any negatives of this hotel. For the price it was a perfect choice !!!

We stayed here one night to get over jet-lag and to see a bit of Arusha the following morning before embarking on a safari. The hotel was cheap, clean, in the middle of everything, and I really enjoyed the breakfast - a good selection including my favorite - baked beans with toast and butter. There was also a cooked yam dish that I really enjoyed. Coffee was instant, but good enough - I could make my own which means I could make it strong enough. Fresh fruit and meat options were also available.

I heard the call to prayer in the morning but I really enjoy that so that doesn't bother me. Our room had a balcony facing the street and a bus station so it was fun watching the city wake up in the morning. The decor is basic - certainly not for a honeymoon or special occasion, but not too run down either. Bathroom was adequate. Free bottled water. Comfortable bed (although, after our long flight, we probably could have slept standing up and thought it was comfortable), with a mosquito net. Did not see a lot of mosquitos, though.

The staff were friendly and there was no problem storing our bags for a few hours. We also made a local call through the front staff at a cheap price. The front staff English was good.

For the price, this is a great hotel. I would stay here again when in Arusha.

It is a nice place to take an overnight break, if you are flying out the next day. Simple, small rooms. Limited choices of food. Decent breakfast.

Location tends to be noisy - but ok. You can walk to nearby stores or restaurants.

Our stay at McElly's was enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable. We heard the generator outside at times along with some street noise, but it was not a bother. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We would stay there again.

This little find was inexpensive, clean, fairly quiet, with excellent food cooked on site.
Most staff members understood English and tolerated our poor Swahili, Smiles and patience overcame the differences. We returned at the end of our safari and spent another night. They have a shuttle to the airport in Kilimanjaro which was handy and efficient since we left at 2 am to catch our flight. We would stay their again anytime we are in the area.
