“A home away from home”

We stayed in Twiga few times during our one moth vacation in north Tanzania. Every time we felt like coming home. Erika and Paul go to great length to arranging everything you need, everything you dont need and many things you would not have though are possible in Tanzania. They create a unique home atmosphere while you still enjoy the privacy of a hotel room, your own veranda, enormous garden. Great food. Quiet location. Internet accessible most of the time when there is electricity.Off road vans available from parking lot. We realy recoment anyone to stay a few days at Twiga to catch up breath, get clean and fed, get ready for more adventures out there.

We did a 10 day self drive with Shaw Safaris and stayed at Twiga Lodge for 4 nights before our safari and 1 night upon our return. We wish it could have been more! Erika and Paul and their wonderful staff are amazing. We felt like family from the moment we arrived. Cocktails in the afternoon on the veranda is a great time to get to know other guests. The food at every meal is fantastic and plentiful, and features fabulous local produce. Morning coffee is thoughtfully set up the night before for early risers (like us). Erika insured every detail of our trip was well organized and Paul and his staff did a wonderful job preparing the vehicle and instructing us on its use. Self drive may not be for everyone, but if you have the spirit of adventure do not miss the opportunity for this very special experience. I can't imagine you could find a business where your trip will be better supported. And don't miss a safari with Paul to Arusha National Park right outside the gate to Twiga Lodge. It was a great way for us to ease in to our self drive and we saw many animals and an amazing number of birds - not to mention the fun we had with Paul as our guide.

We loved Twiga Lodge's quiet location in Usa River and we were so glad not to be staying right in Arusha. When you do visit Arusha be sure to go to Shanga Workshop for crafts and the River House on the grounds for a wonderful lunch http://www.shanga.org/index.php

My husband and I rented a 4x4 from Shaw Safaris for a week in early December. It was a fairly last minute booking having only booked our flights in November, but despite this Erika went out of her way to ensure our trip was expertly organised.

Erika and Paul are a lovely couple who truly care about the experience they are offering. The vehicles they provide are equipped with everything you need for a safe and comfortable. They even provide things you probably wouldn't think of - the sunglasses repair kit was a nice touch! (thankfully unused by us!).

Erika suggested a great itinerary for us which was excellent for the time we had and we visited Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Erika pre-arranged the special campsites for us and we spent our evenings completely alone with nature, listening to the sounds of the African night from our cosy roof tent. The self-drive experience is truly incredible and we felt very well prepared for it with all the organisational and vehicle preparation work Erika & Paul do before every trip.

We stayed with them at their beautiful Twiga Lodge the night before departure and also when we returned from safari. Our room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Erika & Paul dined with us at breakfast and dinner so it actually felt like staying with good friends rather than a formal hotel. We had a lot of fun with them and wish we could have stayed longer. Twiga Lodge is on the doorstep of Arusha National Park, and we regret not having enough time to go there.

Tanzania is a fabulous country, we found the people welcoming and friendly. The nature is outstanding. I would really recommend it as a fantastic & exhilarating place to self-drive, especially with a trustworthy company like Shaw Safaris.

I can't wait to go back!

This place is perfect. The minute we pulled into the driveway, Paul -- one of the owners -- came rushing out of the house with a pair of binoculars urging us to hurry up to the top of the property's viewing platform, which overlooks Arusha National Park, because he'd seen some elephants pass by a few minutes before. Being able to see a herd of elephants within an hour of arriving in Tanzania (and Africa) for the first time was definitely an awesome start to our honeymoon! The grounds at Twiga are gorgeous, the house itself is not only beautiful, but unique -- you feel almost as if you're in a luxurious treehouse without being outdoors. The food is wonderful, the staff are great, and, of course, the viewing platform, from which, in addition to wildlife, you can see Kilimanjaro, is spectacular. Above all, Paul and Erika are a great couple to spend a few days with. As many have said, by the time you leave, they seem like family. If the lodge isn't full (it wasn't when we were there), they usually share meals with the guests, which was a ton of fun. Great people, great setting -- hopefully, we'll be back!

It is perfect in all ways!

Normally I love to write long reviews, but I have no idea what more to say than:
We loved the house!
We loved garden!
We loved the food!
We loved the self drive safari!
We loved Erika and Paul, and the pet rooster!

We totally agree with the other reviews, from arriving until you leave Paul and Erika make you feel like an old friend visiting. The only drawback was that we only spent two nights there...

My husband and I travelled to Africa in Sept to celebrate our 50th birthdays. We had the pleasure of staying at Twiga Lodge with hosts Erika and Paul. Twiga has so many wonderful features it is hard to list them all. The lodge itself is perfectly located on the door step of Arusha National Park, the accommodation is unique and comfortable with plenty of space to just relax and enjoy the views . The food is yummy and and of an excellent standard...a highlight is sitting around the table enjoying your meals with other guests and the hosts. To make our experience as stress free and as smooth as possible Twiga provided a pick up service from the airport/ a driver to take us to the Ngorongoro Crater/and a free of charge service to track down my lost luggage. Paul and Erika run a professional yet relaxed, efficient, personalized lodge.
