We stayed at this hotel for one night immediately following our arrival in Tanzania and prior to embarking on safari. The hotel does have a colonial feel but seems slightly faded. Although it was fine in general, I had one major criticism and one more minor. Firstly, our room was really quite cold and the bed coverings rather inadequate. I looked for extra blankets and there were none. As a result I was really quite cold during the night. As our son was sharing the room with us, the third bed made the sleeping arrangements rather more cosy than was strictly comfortable.
Secondly, the staff were not as friendly as we came to expect from our stays at other hotels in Tanzania and Zanzibar. They were not unfriendly but not as welcoming as in other locations.
In general the rooms were clean and the bathroom satisfactory. The location is very convenient for an initial night before moving on. The view over the lake is picturesque but when we were there we couldn't see Mount Kilimanjaro because it was completely shrouded in cloud.More
