This hotel is fairly close to downtown Arusha. It is an hour (50$US) taxi ride from Kilimanjaro airport. It is well situated and has a secured access with a gate which essentially keeps any undesirables outside the property. We stayed 3 separate times in Feb 2014
It is basically a North American 4 star hotel with 5 floors. They have two bedroom suites which have one bathroom which includes a bath. The normal rooms could be any business hotel in the world except that they have no bath.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, of average size. The views from all of the rooms are quite something. On one side, towering Mount Meru and the town of Arusha. On the other side, the gardens backed by a golf course which give it a beautiful groomed property appearance.
The dining room gives onto to the gardens. It is a very beautiful sight. It is quite pleasant to have any meal by the lantanas and other flowering plants which line the dining room patio. The food and service were respectable and ample. The breakfast buffet has plenty of delicious fresh fruit. You can order a pretty decent café latte from the adjoining coffee bar and have it with your breakfast on the terrace. They have baked beans, some Indian specialties, plenty of varieties of bread and cereal. They will make you an omelet or pancake in front of you the way you like it with your favorite ingredients. The toaster takes forever to toast bread so go for the toaster while your omelet is being prepared. They have cheeses and butter and milk products which we ate and did not suffer from any complications. The dinner choices were respectable and good. The service understands English but does need repetition to get orders right.
On one occasion, we did run out of hot water. Also on one occasion, the light fixture in the bathroom did not work. Otherwise, everything else worked fine.
For Wi-Fi, go to the reception desk area otherwise it is very spotty.
We also ate at the coffee bar one night and it had respectable food.
The billing and check-out was precise and efficient.
Of note, the baggage storage was free and safe. We used it twice for a fair amount of baggage and it worked well. They do make you sign that there is no computers or cameras in the bags. I am not sure what they would do if you have valuables in your bags.
This is a modern hotel with a nice pool for the kids which is fully wheel chair accessible.
With a bath in every room, servers with slightly better English and slightly better food, I would call this an excellent hotel. But it worked very well for us after our trek and safari.

Mt. Meru is a stopping point for folks on their way to or from Kilimanjaro. The hotel is modern and the rooms quite pleasant. However, it is a large hotel and caters to bus tours and school groups. The very large dining room has the feel of a school cafeteria filled with children jostling for places at the buffet and behaving as pre-teens tend to do in large groups. The hotel has a nice little gym. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is not close to any of the sights, but it is modern, clean, and comfortable.

The place was modern-ish,our view was southward over a deserted golf course bizarrely set in the middle of this large sprawling city. The place was clean and we had decent food. All in all, a good place to spend a half a day getting ready for our unbelievably long flight home to San Francisco through Amsterdam.

Overall a good experience that I would recommend for a few days on either side of a safari. The good is that the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and the food is basic but very good. The problems that could help make this property better would be some fixes to the room (my shower constantly leaked, the hot water was sporadic, and two electric plugs in the room wouldn't work) The biggest issue was the wifi which is nice to have after being disconnected for a week. Unfortunately, it's pretty slow and must have kicked me off 20 times while I was there. Overall though a good hotel that I would have no problems recommending. Pool and patio are very nice.

My wife and I arrived at the hotel around 11 pm after arriving from Amsterdam. This was the beginning of our 10 day private safari in Tanzania. My wife was a bit concerned about arriving in a relatively poor Eastern Africa country so late in the day. We were very pleasantly surprised upon arriving at the hotel. Everything was very nice and comparable to any upscale hotel in American or Europe. We had been upgraded to a top floor suite. We found the accommodations to be great. The next morning we left early so we did not get time to enjoy the hotel until our last day when we came back to the hotel in the middle of the afternoon to rest until our flight left for Amsterdam around midnight. We think that the hotel was a great place to start and end our safari.

Mt. Meru hotel is a great place to stay. Its comforts and luxuries are commendable. Minor staff should be highly appreciated for their frinedliness and continous and untiring assistance. My only request is that the front office gents & ladies would take a cue from the minor staff and at least SMILE with the guests

Room Tip: I stayed at Room No.205 for three nights. But better if I could get a room at the top floor for fant...

My husband and I stayed one night here enroute to our Tanzanian safari and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is modern, and well designed with fairly large rooms and bathrooms. And the public areas are lovely.

Wifi was not good in the room, but the signal in the public areas was fine. The back of the hotel backs onto some lush green spaces and it looked to be a great place for relaxing in the sunshine.

Ate at the poolside grill where we had a good pizza. The Buffet breakfast the next morning was excellent with many choices. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Mt. Meru
