I recently spent four nights at the Mount Meru Hotel for work. The hotel is about 100 meters back from a busy street. Cars are checked before entering the hotel compound, and guests are "wanded" before entering the building. The room was comfortable, but the hotel assigned me a room with two twin beds instead of a queen or king bed. The bathroom is poorly lit, and the shower stall does not have a door. This means that whenever you shower, water gets splashed all over the floor.

The hotel offers free WiFi, but does not have wired Internet access. The WiFi service can be spotty at times. The business center offers wired Internet access for 4000 shillings for 30 minutes. I believe that the power went out briefly a few times during my stay. This may explain why there were no clocks in the room; they would have flashed each time the power went out. The hotel TV service includes the standard European and U.S. news channels.

There were a couple of things that annoyed me. First, the electronic room keys would frequently fail to work. I had to make several trips to the front desk to fix the problem. Second, the room safes are not very secure. My safe was locked when I arrived, and I mentioned it to the front desk clerk. He said, "Just type in XXXX [a four digit code that I will not repeat here]." Well, I'm sad to say that worked, not just for me, but for others in my group. If the hotel staff can type in a number to access my belongings, what good is that?

The hotel was quite busy during my stay. It hosted a couple of conferences, and is also used by tour groups on their way to, ore returning from, a safari. It is about 50 minutes from the Kilimanjaro Airport.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the street will have a view of Mount Meru and a busy street, while rooms that face t...

I've stayed at Mount Meru for 4-5 times for 1-2 weeks from May 2013 - August 2014 and have become increasingly dissatisfied with the services there. They charge more than the other hotels in the area and the quality of the services doesn't substantiate the price. It's a nice place to stop for a drink but I would not recommend staying overnight for more than 1 or 2 days.
Positives:
- friendly staff
- the surrounding grounds (i.e., the golf course) are beautiful and serene
- the drinks at the Arabic lounge are great, especially the milkshakes!
- very clean
- conference facilities are acceptable and plentiful

Negatives:
- the bathrooms are not functionally designed and always flooding
- the staff usually forgets your requests, is not very attentive, and often give you the wrong information to quickly get you off their back
- the staff is completely overwhelmed if there are more than a few guests staying at the hotel; their attentiveness to requests and details completely disappears and you are often left waiting 20 minutes on a request or chasing after them!
- internet in the rooms is horrible; it's only decent in the arabica lounge
- food in the main restaurant is horrendous; buffet food is horrible and the selection is not very good

Room Tip: the view of the golf course is beautiful and serene

This is my first time to be in Mount Meru Hotel, which I used to hear about. I am now in this hotel and I just like it. The surrounding environment is super, staff are excellent and their services are 5 star class. There are hotel rooms are located along the main road towards Moshi and those that are on the backside). All rooms are quieter, but the one on the back side face the golf field. Swimming pool is majestic. Wireless internet is excellent and the hotel has over four restaurants of your choice. I am here for five nights and its a great place to be with family or for work.

Room Tip: back side rooms are good.

This hotel is clean. safe and easy but the food was average, the internet isn't fast and the showers aren't very big.The pizzeria was nice and the staff were friendly but the hotel needs to up their game if they're going to attract return customers in this ever competitive hotel market.

Outstanding breakfast, with terrific Tanzanian coffee (surprisingly, many of the hotels I stayed in during my trip to Tanzania had poor coffee; this one has great coffee.) Efficient modern property. Outstanding choice for pre-safari or post-safari. Wireless internet included; this was somewhat slow, but it worked.

My wife and I stayed at the Mount Meru Resort for 2 nights before starting our safari. The hotel is conveniently located about an hours drive from the Kilimanjaro airport and about 20 minutes from the local airport that flies you into the Serengeti. The hotel is modern looking and caters to a North American/European clientele. Breakfast and dinner buffets are good and a cold Kilimanjaro beer in the evening on the back patio is wonderful. This is a great hotel for transitioning and recovering from jet lag before starting your safari.
