We stayed at Onsea house for 2 nights after arriving in Arusha after a long trip from Chicago. It was our stopping point before heading off on safari. We had a kind greeting after our evening arrival and were shown to our room in the main building. While the rooms were a bit small, they were very nice, clean and were nicely complimented by the beautiful communal spaces to relax throughout the property. The grounds of the property are really pretty and well kept.
Onsea House is located more in a neighborhood, as opposed to the downtown area. We really liked the location, just noting the difference - we enjoyed a nice walk around the neighborhood in the morning and felt very safe with many locals saying hello. The manager was helpful in arranging massages for us and we spent the afternoon by the pool. The food was delicious at every meal and we especially enjoyed the long dinner. There really isn't much else to do and we were there to relax from our travels, so it was nice to have dinner be the main event for the evening. It was a great stopping point to regroup from travels or safari!

We spent one night here at the beginning of our Tanzanian safari. I wished we had at least a second night to enjoy the beautiful gardens/grounds and the warm hospitality of Onsea House. Our room was directly above the dining room area and was more of a penthouse suite than a room. A large bed with mosquito netting, full bathroom and 2 outside decks with views of the valley. We arrived later in the evening but were still treated to a lovely dinner with wine. Our only complaint was that there seemed to be lots of howling dogs in the neighbourhood and during our stay a local cow was giving birth through the night. Poor thing! A warm breakfast in the morning and we were on our way.

We spent one night here ...and would have loved to have stayed longer. A beautifully designed resort, we stayed in a villa with 2 apartments with a shared sitting room. Beautiful mosquito netted bed, large bathroom with lots of hot water. The grounds are lovely overlooking some hilly mountains. Dinner was a complete surprise.... Fine dining lots of courses all delicious. Our best meal in Africa so far! A bit confusing also called Machweo - there wellness side I think ...looked good but no time for a massage,

Room Tip: We had rooms 4 & 5 closest to the dining section.

I was fortunate enough to visit Tanzania and ended up spending several days in Arusha. Via a friend I was recommended to stay in Onsea House and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival I was greeted by one of the staff members who handed me a delicious fresh juice after which I was shown to my room. The room I stayed in was very spacious, clean, nicely decorated and the views from the terrace were stunning. After having settled in I enjoyed a nice relaxing dinner on the patio overlooking the valley. The food was excellent and the atmosphere very peaceful and relaxing. They take the privacy of their guests very seriously which makes this the perfect location to decompress without feeling bothered.

About the staff I can't think of anything negative to say, they are very gracious and friendly when dealing with their guests and they make you feel right at home.

Overall this was the perfect vacation and I would recommend this location to anyone who is looking for a place to enjoy great food and simply relax.

We arrived quiet late at night and lady who welcomed us was very friendly. The rooms were clean, but all a bit basic, with me having to hold the shower for my son as it would not stay on properly. We went to supper and started with a charming waiter explain the food, before totally bombastic man appeared and acted as if the poor chap was an idiot. We think he was the owner, but he was rude and we embarrassed for the staff member. The food was then really not great at all. A stuffed aubergine starter that had spent an hour too long in the oven, a prawn starter with one prawn, cold mashed potatoes, etc. All in all just not very nice. Breakfast was fine, but nothing to write home about and when we were given the bill the lady just stood over us as if we not going to pay, so we had to explain twice we needed to go back to the room to get a credit card. Finally there were a lot of howling dogs all night – that may be true across the area but a light sleeper may want earl plugs.

Dear Realwomen,

We of course take it to heart that all in all you were not overwhelmed by your stay in our lodge. Because ‘Meh’ is the absolute opposite of what we try to achieve.

We would like to address your remarks and , where possible, look for a solution.
Concerning the ‘basic’ appearance of our rooms, this is something we specifically chose for and this ‘toned down’ style that is in stark contrast with big impersonal multinationals is often times greatly appreciated.

However, the fact that your shower was not working properly is a serious problem and an inadmissible one at that. We are aware of this and although we’ve asked the landlord to fix this repeatedly it just took time to get it done.

Your underwhelmed feelings about the dinner and breakfast could be very personal, but of course very important. We inspire our kitchen staff to prepare succulent meals every day, every moment of the day and we are sorry you had the impression that you might have caught them on a less inspired moment. I hope you will agree with us that it also just might be a case of personal preferences and tastes.

Just like your impression of our Executive Chef/Manager, who indeed is very exuberant and enthusiastic. But his outgoing personality and this personal chitchat is greatly appreciated by our guests. And our staff. They have been working many years with him and know him, and they love the way he treats and trains them.

Which brings me to your impression while you were settling your bill. We try to give our staff as much responsibility as possible. Settling the bill is a very important one.
We are sorry that an employee who was putting into practice what we taught him, but maybe in an overzealous way, gave you the impression that you were going to make a run for it without paying.

Since we strive to make everyone’s stay an unforgettable one, we will take all your remarks into consideration and discuss them. And fix what has to be fixed.
We owe this to ourselves and our guests.

Thank you for your constructive criticism, we hope that all by all your stay was pleasant and we hope to welcome you again one day.

Kind regards

This guesthouse is perfect! It's small and intimate enough to give every client personal attention. We only stayed one night, but wish we could have stayed longer. The food offered is excellent...breakfast & dinner. They also had a nice selection of wines. Great atmosphere on the deck of the restaurant. The cottages have comfortable beds and little kitchenettes along with nice bathrooms. You couldn't want more!

Room Tip: All cottages are close to one another. Our cottage was a "stand alone" one, but our frien...
