“Nice basic hotel with hiccups”
Reviewed 1 April 2009

Stayed for 2 nights in this small, nice and quite basic hotel. The internet was a main handicap being not only hard to access but also very slow. Charges with US $ 10 per day are relatively low but what does it help if it takes a day to empty your mailbox.

Breakfast was ok, the choice of food is somewhere at a 3 star level. The location is good but especially for tourists there is better views in other places. Dinner was considering the food quality in most places in Arusha acceptable, they should just not sell a chicken breast as a Wiener Schnitzl, because it isn't one.

The rooms are small, bit dark and the best was the flat panel TV. Minibars are there but left empty which doesn't make sense.

Construction/renovation work was very annoying.

I stayed here for one night at the beginning of a safari.

When you walk into the hotel it's impressive and you couldn't fault the rooms - they were lovely. Staff were eager to please and pleasant. The pool area was lovely.

My biggest problem with this hotel was the food which was appalling. I ordered a cheese and tomato sandwich for lunch - it was disgusting, surely the worst quality sandwich I had ever eaten in my life and had to be left on my plate. Everyone at my table was laughing at the appalling standard of the desserts on the dinner buffet. Someone took a cheesecake and we all tasted it and joked about how awful it was. Where on earth are they getting their recipes from?

I later complained to the Manager about the appalling standard of the food. He seemed aware of the problem and said they were replacing alot of the chefs at the end of the month. I hope they do, as the poor food quality is the main thing letting this hotel down. If they can get their act together by sacking all the chefs and starting to buy better quality food ingredients and catering more to western tastes with their food, this hotel could be great.

Note that I realised later that there were some nice restaurants down the road outside of the hotel - in particular what looked like a great luxury Italian restaurant a 5 minute walk away from the Hotel, but my group didn't feel courageous enough to venture out of the hotel for dinner. Alot of western tourists feel safer eating in the hotel restaurants than wandering around Arusha at night [LOL] hence the importance of this hotel dramatically improving the quality of it's food.

If you want to stay at this hotel make sure you eat out for dinner until they hire and pay for better quality chefs. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at this time because of the food but if I were to find out that they had improved the food I would recommend it.

This is a very impersonal hotel. it is quite modern and the hotel is clean but it has the most unfriendly staff I have found in this country and everything was such an effort. The hotel has no feeling to it, is very cold and empty. Pool is a nice size but right up against the restaurant which is very off-putting. I only ate one meal there as the food is dreadful and I found some nice local restaurants to go to. I would not really recommend this hotel for the price it is.

This hotel is modern and well appointed, especially when compared to the other options in this developing city. It's a business hotel, so internet and phone are readily available, and the hotel has many western conveniences. I stayed here three nights (before a Kili climb, before a safari, and before a flight out of Kilimanjaro airport), and was always happy with the room and service.

  • Liked — The modern conveniences
  • Disliked — There is nothing around this hotel. It is good as a waypoint, but I wouldn't stay there for an extended trip.

We stayed here for one night as a stopover before heading back to the JRO airport.

It is kind of on the outskirts of the bustling city of Arusha. There is not much within walking distance except a couple of small restaurants (a pizza place and fast food chinese) and a small grocery store.

This is clearly a business hotel. It is very nice with a beautiful lobby, a bar, restaurant and pool.

The hotel was very quiet and we did not hear any street noise from our room.

The room was very nice! The room was large with air conditioning and a TV (but the reception was poor and there was only BBC and one Tanzanian channel). The bed was decently comfortable (not too hard as is common in Africa), with good blankets and pillows. The bathroom was really nice, large and super clean with a great hot shower!

There was plenty of storage space.

They was internet for $8.75 for 24 hours but it was very slow.
There is a currency exchange in the lobby. The staff was helpful, professional, friendly and spoke perfect English.

We drove to the JRO airport at 8am on a weekday and the drive took about one hour.

This was a wonderful place to stay and we would definitely recommend this hotel!

We stayed here for 2 nights after safari and in honesty needed a bit of western comfort, which the Kibo palace offers.

Corporate-style hotel, with all the modern comforts this offers, however lacks African character. Although corporate is wasnt too big (although building work for a new spa area is still ongoing but not too obtrusive).

The room was spotless & comfortable (had a executive room), which overlooked the front of the hotel & one of Arusha's main roads. This was quite noisy as it isnt double-glazed, but quite interesting to watch this city working. Air conditioning in the room.

Food good quality but expensive by most standards. The rest of the hotel & pool immaculate.

Walking around Arusha, is seems one of the newest & nicest hotels and in a better area. Armed guards on the hotel gate!!

We wanted to stay in arusha as we had been recommended it as a place of culture & interest. However, we felt quite harrassed by street touts and there isnt that much to see or do. In hindsight it would have been good to have hired a guide and then we wouldnt have been hassled or follwed quite so much. 1 night maximum for arusha.

  • Liked — comfortable, clean, western style
  • Disliked — stightly abrupt staff
