“Beautiful introduction to Tanzania”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

This is a beautiful, bumpy and winding road to an Arusha garden. The staff welcomed and accommodated me with attention and information. I was assisted to make arrangements for a taxi-guide on my arrival day. Beautiful and luxurious rooms,

Staff was very friendly, food was good, and compared to the rest of the places in Arusha the location is awesome. It's away from the city center up on a hillside with nice views of the surrounding area especially from the bar above the restaurant. Each bungalow is self contained has a hot water shower, toilet/sink, and balcony. Lots of wildlife on the property. Don't leave your doors open as there are many monkeys running around and on the balconies. Awesome watching them play sitting on the balcony drinking a Kilimanjaro beer. Our hot water stopped one day (because monkeys were messing with the pipe) and the manager was very helpful switching us to another bungalow immediately.

Room Tip: Go higher up on the hill for better views and less city/animal noise.

This place is simply paradise. The people are so nice, food is beyond great, everything is neat and clean. There's hot running water all the time (when you're in Tanzania it's important) and free wi-fi. I had a perfect time at Karama Lodge, will definitely come back again.

We enjoyed one night in this lodge after our safari and before leaving from Kilimanjaro airport.
The rooms itself are relatively basic and a bit too small to move around. However, the view from the nice balcony and the location and general set up of the lodges do make up for anything in the cabin that could be a bit below average. We truly enjoyed this last night with a drink in the bar with stunning view through the panoramic windows. The people were nice and helpful and the food and breakfast were good. Strongly recommended for the excellent location and set up. Would however not chose it for a longer stay when a bit more space in the rooms becomes more important.

The Karama lodge made us feel like we were out in the wild (you could hear every sound, feel like you're in a tent) with running water and electricity. The view from the bar is spectacular, but I would recommend this as more of a couples' get-away than a family or group spot. Each room is secluded with it's own balcony, and its feeling of privacy.
The staff was pleasant. Close to the city.

This lodge was our introduction to lodge accommodation before our Serengetti adventure. We thought it was an attractive location in the trees, with both the common areas (lounge and dining room) and individual rooms being of a high standard. Each cabin had a sizeable balcony area looking out to the hills opposite. The layout of our cabin was a bit odd with the bed in the centre of the room with only circulation space around. The toilet and shower areas were separate ensuite spaces of a reasonable size, and everything worked. The meals were of a very high standard and staff were mostly efficient and friendly enough in carrying out their duties. The one significant problem we had was that our two cabins were situated right next to the generator. Despite the manager advising us at dinner that it would be turned off when we went to bed, subsequently the staff would not take the initiative and it took 4 requests - involving a lengthy trek to the office each time - before it was finally turned off after 11.00pm. This detracted significantly from the pleasure of our stay.

Room Tip: Tell your booking agent you will not accept cabins 8 or 23 unless the generator has been relocated

I spent one night here before heading out on a safari tour. It is slightly away from town in a quiet spot on a hill. The individual cabins are cute and comfortable. It is nothing too fancy, but very nice and all have a small balcony. The natural sounds were lovely to fall asleep and wake up to. The bed was comfy. I did not have hot water (it wasn't cold - more like luke warm) but it just meant for a quick shower and no wasting of water. I didn't really feel too put out about it. I may have had it been more than one night. The pool area was quite nice as well. Dinner buffet was good but lunch menu service was very poor. Not a great menu and more than 30 mins wait for a mezz plate. The wifi was very bad. A nice bar/lounge area. The staff was was very friendly. I struggled between an average and very good rating. I went with average because my enjoyment was more about the peacefulness and sun and not so much anything that the lodge itself did. I would have no qualms recommending it.
