“A pit!”

We weren't expecting anything special from this hotel, but the room we stayed in ("G") was gross. First of all, there were HOLES in the room's doors. Enough for someone to be able to easily peep through. Then the bathroom had mold on the walls and ceiling. The shower's drain was just a hole in the shower floor; no drain fixture. The toilet ran constantly. The window screens were torn and dirty. The mosquito netting over the beds was filthy. They were so dusty we had coughing fits. The restaurant service was very slow and the food wasn't good. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

We stayed here before our safari and had a good stay. The rooms are basic but nicely finished and comfortable. The hotel shows it's age slightly but I quite like that as part of the character (I'm not a fan of the usual corporate bland business hotels that I stay in for work - they are all the same dull style). Staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed a good meal in the restaurant in the evening (with the tasty Kilimanjaro beer!). The centre of town is an easy 10-15 min walk along the main road (with the standard safety issues for night time excursions). The hotel is also located quite close to a lot of the safari company offices so easy to walk over to book/finalise details etc.

I stayed here the night before catching the 8 am Impala shuttle to Nairobi. For this it is perfect, since it is half the price of Impala hotel, and only a 3-minute walk from the Impala Shuttle office, which is outide the Impala hotel. There is a back gate from the Jacaranda compound that is almost directly opposite the Impala hotel entrance.

The rooms are nothing special. I do not like the 'africonnerie' style, with old bits of wood and calabashes etc for lampshades and decoration. But if you do, you may find the room deco charming. I found it shabby and dusty - but not disgusting and dirty. There was no hot water at 7 am when I wanted to have a shower. But maybe there is at other times. The free wi-fi worked only in the restaurant /reception area. The restaurant was perfectly fine and therefore very convenient.

As a conveniently located hotel, I find Le Jacaranda is good value for money - definitely if you are considering Impala.

I marked 'sleep quality' as poor because there dogs of the neighbourhood decided to have a barking contest at 2 am. That may not be a regular occurence.

Room Tip: Room number 6 is very near the back gate, from which you walk to the Impala.

The first night my boyfriend and I arrived we were give a nice room on the second floor for an average price. It was a little more than we had been paying at other places. The girl at the front desk told us we could have that room for a few nights and then would have to switch because someone had booked it. When it came time to switch rooms, we were moved downstairs to room half the quality of the first. We accepted only because we were leaving for safari the next day. We left our things with the reception until we returned a few days later. This time we were shown a room even less desirable than the first. Someone had obviously been chain smoking before us and the room smelled awful. We complained and were taken to a separate building and shown a room in an abandoned area of the hotel. We could tell no one else was in this section of the hotel, as it was a ten minute walk with our luggage and the room was not nice. We finaly settled for a room with two twin beds because they had no rooms with one big bed. Every room we got was worse than the original. The staff had no idea what they were doing and looked at us with blank faces when we asked for a room with the same quality as the first. We ended up paying the same price for our original nice room, as we did for the bad ones.

To top it off no one could tell us where to hang our laundry to dry. We spoke with reception they said it was alright to hang it on one of their railings in a corner of the hotel in the back where no one went. We did so and left for the day hoping they would dry, and were assured they would not be moved. When we returned of course, our clothes were gone. Reception had taken them down as soon as we left and they were soaking wet in the bottom of a laundry basket. We had a twelve hour bus and now had to ride with all of our clothes wet. No one in the staff could explain to us what happened. The staff had absolutely no idea what to tell us, the girl at the front desk was an idiot. I would NOT recommend this hotel

Lovely gardens, shop selling good range of reasonable value Tinga Tinga Art. Friendly staff. Nice big rooms but could do with some more maintenance. A safari company has just moved in there and put together a very good and good value safari for us at last minute. They've taken the radio out of the jeep so the guides have to use their skill to give you a good experience and not just follow the other safari buses to a poor animal hemmed in by vehicles. And they found us a great local guide who knew all about local plants and their uses, even the latin names.

Spent a few nights before and after Safari. Good location. Nice surroundings. People are nice. But, the window screens and the bed netting had holes. There is no fan in the room so windows must remain open. And the toilet kept running. When I complained there was no attemp to remedy these items. The restaurant had good dinner food but breakfast was limited. I'd stay elsewhere next time if it is for more than one night.

Room Tip: Rooms in main building.

We stayed four nights in total at this accomodation, and came back after a safari week and our mt. Kilimanjaro climbing. It's good to sleep in normal beds and have decent comfort after heavy camping. But it's not worth to stay very long. We slept in three different rooms and they were all quite antique and tasteless, although clean enough.

The restaurant is rather expensive, with a too large choice of dishes and cuisines,
what causes very long waiting times (2h!) for your diner.
On the contrary, breakfast is poor, with small choice.
Internet is quite slow, but free if you have your own surfing device.
