“If you want peace in paradise come here at the end of the peak season....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2012

I stayed in this hotel for a week heading to Phuket and it was a lovely rest. Khao Lak itself is very much tourist orientated but if you want to get away from this during a Thai trip then stopping here will open up some lovely jungle walks and diving/boat trips....anyway the hotel.

Newly refurbished post Tsunami it is extremely clean and fresh. I went off peak and got upgraded to a poolside room with my own private Alcove dropping straight into the pool. Although I had a few days of the arriving monsoon rain I used these to take advantage of the amazing (if slightly more expensive than town) spa and massage facilities. Although more pricy the setting was nicer so I didn't mind. The poolside looks out onto the beach which you can walk straight onto. It is easy to get away from beach crowds (if there are any!) by walking about a mile north up the beach where there are no hotels. The food is excellent but limited in choice....and the bar snacks a little limited during quiet season. For me it was just what I was looking for....peace and quiet; palm tree and deserted beaches. If you have kids or want to party then Another location would be better.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Apsaras from 13-22 February. It was like spending a week in paradise. Our room had been specially decorated for us as honeymooners, it was very clean and had great facilities. The staff at the reception and bar were very pleasant and friendly. The resort is right on the beach so perfect for some R&R. The food in the restaurant is slightly overpriced but is of a good standard, although there are some local restaurants that serve delicious food at more reasonable prices. Also I felt the buffet was very expensive relative to what you pay. My only real criticisms would be that there could be more shuttles from the resort into khao Lak town. There were only 3 per day when we were there (in high season) and the latest one was at 5pm in the evening. The hotel also does not run additional shuttles if they are oversubscribed, even if you book in advance, so you are left with no choice but to get a taxi which is more expensive. The other criticism is about MEMORIES restaurant which is on the beach near the resort. YOU SHOULD AVOID EATING AT THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. We went there on our penultimate day and waited almost 25 minutes to even be acknowledged by the staff, after we had sat down. We had to ask to be served (even drinks) and our food did not come for one hour. They even forgot what my wife had ordered once mine had arrived. When we asked for the bill, we requested whether we could have money off as we had received such bad service. The manager came over and told me very aggressively to go "f**k myself". Needless to say we got no discount for the atrocious treatment. I'm not a particularly high maintenance or difficult customer and neither is my wife but we were so repulsed by this that we left straight
away, even though my wife had just got her food. The manager was holding a small toddler at the time of the incident, hardly a good example to set for a child. My wife was so upset that we complained to the Apsaras, who to be fair were very understanding. Please don't be put off going to Apsaras as we had a wonderful honeymoon but please avoid MEMORIES if you want a pleasant hassle-free stay.

My two daughters (age 17 and 11) and I spent a wonderful week at the Apsaras in March. Coming from the hustle and bustle in Phuket, we truly enjoyed the peace and serenity at the Apsaras and the lovely beach, where you could walk for hours.

We had a DeLuxe room with a fabulous sea view, which we really ejoyed, from waking up to going to sleep. You could also take a bath while enjoying the view - wonderful! The room was a bit small, but well planned, and the standard of cleaning was exceptionally good.

We were happy to have chosen half board, as the buffet dinners were very good and varied - each night with a different theme. And as the centre of Khao Lak does not offer the same variety of nice restaurants and bars as Karon and Kata in Phuket, we think it would have been a bit problematic to find a nice place for dinner each night. We also had some very nice lunches at the lovely Zeus bar, and frequently visited Memories bar (almost "next door") for a drink or a fruit plate.

My daughters also visited the spa and were euforic after their spa treatments - so this is to be recommended as well.

The staff at Apsaras - from reception and restaurant to housekeeping and cleaning - was enormously friendly; everybody really did their best to make us feel welcome and see that we enjoyed our stay.

The only negative point we can think about is that the parasols by the pool kept on flying away on windy days. We saw some quite dangerous-looking incidents during our stay, and really hope that the management will invest in better parasols before a really bad accident happens.

We loved every minute of our stay at the Apsaras, and are already looking forward to returning to this wonderful resort!

We stayed here in Feb 2012. Our booking was originally for 8 nights in a Pool Side room. However, we decided to stay on for another 4 nights but unable to keep the room. They were very helpful and agreed to let us stay in the Grand Suite for the same price. This was a nice finale to our holiday. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are very good and clean. The only criticism we had was the lunch (Bt650 per person) and evening buffets in the restaurant were expensive (Bt850 peer person) by Thai standards and the meals in the beach side Zues bar were limited not that great. Many guest take a short walk along the beach to "Memories" beach restaurant. The food here is very good for example a main course with rice and a few beers will cost about Bt800 per couple. The resort is about 10 to 15mins drive from the centre of Khao Lak. The resort has a minivan shuttle that leaves twice a day but you can also use pick-up taxis at the entrance to the resort. We recommend this resort for couple that want to be away from the town and also for those with children.

Room Tip: If you are making own travel arrangement the resort will collect and return to Phuket airport for Bt...

We've just got back from a wonderful holiday to the Apsaras, Khao lak. 5th to 16th of March. A beautiful, clean hotel, with staff always willing to help. The beach was amazing, the sea was warm. We only went for bed and breakfast, which we were glad we did, because the 2 resturants at the end if the road, just 10 mins walk, were really good and cheap. We also went to the beach bar 'memories', adjacent to the hotel on the beach, which had really good thai food. We did find the price of meals and drinks quite pricey compared to these, in the hotel. Going in to Khao Lak town, on the shuttle bus, having dinner and a wander round good value and very simple to do. We actually brought back half our money, that we didnt even need!! What we did spend was amazing, even including 2 airport transfers, dinner and drinks every day for 10 days, 3 fullbody massages on the beach, gifts, and 3 taxi rides. Would definately go back, just a shame more Brits dont go, there was a lot of French and German.

Room Tip: We just had what we were given, no preference, and it was lovely.

My husband and I recently visited Khao Lak and stayed at the Apsaras, it was very nice, lovely pool and sunbathing area close to the beach, sea was very rough but good for surfing. The spa was good value and the food in Zues Beach Bar was excellent. Would recommend the hotel and area, which is unspoilt and very beautiful. If you need to take a trip use Num or Santook from Unseen Khaolak, they are fantastic people, very helpful with a good sense of humour and exceptionally knowledgeable. Trip to Elephant Camp was absolutely fabulous, as was James Bond Island, The Similans. The only problem that we didn't like was there was a lot of french people there who would take over the pool at times for male meetings and talk very loudly in the corridors at night.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the Beach and Zeus Beach Bar - very nice deluxe room.

We went expecting a 4* hotel, but were badly disappointed, Quite how the resort can be so rundown when it can't be more that 2 years old is beyond us. Room was filthy, fittings all badly put up (and in some cases only just still on the wall) and obviously extremely cheap. Food was tasteless but plentiful. Hotel seems to like to charge for everything, there was even an itemised pricelist for everything in the room, including the cutlery.

Every other hotel we stayed at on our holiday I've rated as excellent on Tripadviser, but you couldn't drag me back here.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else, but if you must stay here don't pay extra for "sea view", none of...
