Magnificent Resort, it might be 90 minutes north of airport, but it's well worth the effort, and the sights on the way give you an idea of semi rural Thailand. The pool is the biggest and best I've seen, and the rooms are excellent, very clean and functional. All the food outlets were high standard and the buffet breakfast has a huge variety. The Cafe was very good value for light meals. But best of all is the service, out of 10 I would give it an 11, wonderful smiling staff throughout that couldn't do enough for you. Congratulations to you all, we'll be back.

We have just returned from a 8 night fully inclusive package at the JWM and despite a disturbing error upon arrival I have to say the balance of our stay was excellent in every aspect.

We arrived at Phuket Airport on JQ17 at 2210 on 17/8/14. I had received an email from the hotel on 1/8/14 confirming both our arrival and departure details together with information on where to meet our driver. After collecting our luggage we went to the meeting point and attempted to find our driver. Unfortunately after walking up and down for about 20 min I was unable to find anyone with our names on their board. I did speak to 2 people who had the name of the hotel on their boards but with other guests names. Despite checking their lists neither contained our names and neither person offered to transport us to the hotel. They advised me to keep walking up and down to try and locate a person with our names on their board. After another fruitless search I approached one of the men displaying the JW Marriott Khao Lak Hotel boards and asked him to ring the hotel and ask where our driver was. He agreed to do this and after some discussion and agreement from the other guests to share their transport we finally boarded the van for transfer to Khao Lak. This was a rather distressing start to our holiday and I hate to think what might have happened if we were the only guests to arrive on that flight or the other guests were not kind enough to share their transport. I would have been extremely unhappy if I had to ring the hotel and they had to send someone to collect us, especially given that it is about a 80 min drive from the hotel to the airport !

Upon checking in at the hotel an apology for the error was made but there was no explanation offered and there was no follow up from anyone more senior during our stay. Not a great start!

However from that point onwards we had a fantastic holiday. We had a Pool Access room which was definitely worth the extra $$$. I won't go over all the other features of the hotel as they have been well covered by previous reviews. What I will say is that we did not leave the hotel grounds (except for a few walks along the beach) for our entire stay. Normally we would leave any hotel in search of some variety in our dining but with the excellent variety and standard on offer at the JWM we didn't feel the need to search out any alternatives.

In summary if you are looking for a great place for a spot of R&R I think the JWM Khao Lak is hard to beat.

This was a lovely hotel. We stayed as part of Deals.com 8 nights including all meals. The food was fantastic but since we had to pay for upgrade to swim out room and upgrade to family room, it cost about AUD340 pn which is quite expensive. We did have transfers and spa treatments but next time I would probably just book the room then choose when to treat ourselves at Olive and when to eat at Andaman on the beach!
It was very quiet so many things didn't operate. We stayed from 26th July. Weather was good, a bit of rain but not all day. Staff were amazing and kids love the soccer field in front of beach. Its a shame the soccer matches/volleyball did not run due rainy season-even though it hardly rained!
Why not just plan it and if there is rain, cancel it. The kids club was a great set up but the staff dont interact with kids and there are so many activities that you have to pay for. Also there was never anything set up, you had to ask. If there was flower making at 11, I would go at 1115 and there was nothing happening. I would ask and they say flower making at 11-I would say yes its 1115, then they would get stuff out and start doing it.
Its a 300baht tuk tuk ride into town and same back, but we didnt go in much.
Overall it was a lovely rest and the kids loved it too.
Be careful of cracked tiles in the infinity pool-very easy to cut your knee and get stitches

Check in was smooth and easy. Our rooms as requested were next door to each other, lovely pool access ( 4014/15). Other than the weather could not fault our holiday. Tried the Italian and japenese both were ok but could not beat eating on the beach with feet in the sand.
All staff lovely , always smiling and happy to help. Did the temple tour with the hotel which was well organised and the guide very knowledgable . Would love to return .

Room Tip: Can't beat the pool access we really liked block 4 as near swim up bar.

Group of seven, 6 adults and one child (2 years) staying in 3 deluxe pool access rooms 8-23 July 2014.

Check-in
We arrived the hotel around 12pm, luggage was promptly taken care of and we were taken to the hotel lobby. A lot of people arriving at this time, but even so we were quickly helped and given some ice tea and refreshing towel.

Only one room was ready, so we were told to all go there and wait and they would come with the key cards for the two other rooms when ready. Check-in time is 3pm, at 3:30pm I call the reception. Seems like they have forgotten us.

We get the rooms around 4pm. The first room has not been renovated and is quite worn down. After some back and forth my cousin who stays in the room is able to change. Before arriving, we asked for two interconnecting rooms, our room to be in wing 3 with a gate on the terrace for safety since we have a 2 year old and a cot. The result is that none of our requests were given.

Room
We did get a nice room and next to my father, but not interconnecting rooms and they did provide a cot after asking for it.

The room was a good size with nice hard wood floor, a large very comfortable king size bed, a single lay down sofa with table and a sofa group with table. It has a working desk and a 32 inch flat screen TV.

The bathroom is very large with a huge walk in shower, a ‘walk in’ toilet, huge bath tub and double sink.

The room has lots of storage space, a safety box, kettle and minibar.

We stayed in wing 4, room 4019 and I think it was a great place (one of the pics is a map of the hotel). We noticed that we got more sun on the balcony than the rooms in wing 3. If sun is important, I believe the wing 5 rooms would get the most sun. We stayed in the lower part, closer to the beach, and had no fence on the terrace. The upper part rooms have all fences. There were steps going into the pool for easy entrance

The channels passing the wing 3,4 and 5 is quite wide, with 3 and 4 about same width and the channel in front of wing 5 is the widest. For all wings the depth was 1.3 m. I swam past wing 2 and all the rooms here have a garden with trees in front, with a small path leading to the pool channel, but no individual ladder or steps to enter the pool. So entering can be a bit awkward. Also the channel was much narrower and pool depth was only ranging from 1.0m to 1.2m.

Location
The hotel is located right on Khuk Kak beach in Khao Lak and provide free beach towels and sun loungers. They even go around and serve chilled water free of charge. There are a couple of restaurants if you go right on the beach (they will also do laundry for 80 baht/kg) and a tailor, convenience store, massage shop and 3 restaurants in front of the hotel.

The hotel is very isolated and you need to take the hotel shuttle or taxi to get to Khao Lak. Khao Lak is a small place with restaurants and some uninteresting shops. Bang Niang has a outdoor market Mon, Wed and Sat. It’s slightly more than a hour to Phuket airport and about 2 hours to Patong/Karon/Kata area.

General
The hotel is spread over a large area, but flat without major stairs and easy to get around with stroller. Almost all the staff is super friendly and go out of their way to help you. Our cleaning lady was the best, providing us with everything we needed, elephant towel which our son loved and even giving us flowers and other personal gifts.

Breakfast is FANTASTIC! Fresh bread, pastries, pancakes, crepes, waffles, noodle station, dim sum, egg station, salad bar, smoothie station, fresh fruit, bacon, sauted/grilled/fried vegetables, fried rice, various cheeses, spread for bread, youghurt, everything freshly made.

The pool is amazing, apparently the longest in south east asia and is around 3.3 km long. Lots of sun loungers around the huge pool and always many available even though the hotel was full when we stayed there. If you are a couple or small family, I recommend finding the secluded areas at the pool close to the lobby area. These are separated with small trees and give you complete privacy.

Room Tip: We stayed in wing 4, room 4019 and I think it was a great place. We noticed that we got more sun on...

I do not really understand the people giving bad reviews. What on earth are talking about when they speak about mold or moldy smell or run down rooms... Not ours, definitely. It is very unfair to say this. We were even wondering (and we would have bet) that the resort was built post-tsunami, so brand new everything looks.
The breakfast was spectacular, staff really kind, beds confy, high quality cotton linen, everything was just great, really.

My wife and I arrived for 7 days to celebrate our 40th Anniversary.

We stayed in a pool access room which was fantastic for us. We also took the special package to celebrate our anniversary which consisted of a private chef (Mana) and Steward (Nu) in our own cabana on the beach.

We enjoyed the expansive breakfast buffet with fresh juice bar and made very good use of the "Deli" where we could get light meals, snacks, drinks and ice creams. Pool was massive joined together with main pool but had privacy as well with well placed hedges.

The site was a little isolated but that didn't really bother us as we had plenty to do on site. We had very good assistance from the tour desk when we asked to go to Exotic Fishing Thailand in Phang Na which they were unfamiliar with. We got there with no problems.

Room Tip: Pool Access room was worthwhile addition for us.
