“Great location and welcome. Like staying at an old friends house.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

Stayed for 7 nights as part of a trip to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday and had a wonderfully relaxing week.

Advice I would give for people staying here is please, please don't come here expecting it to be the Mandarin Oriental. If you want a gym and business facilities in Bang Niang then book yourself into somewhere like the Ramada and pay up to 4 times the price.

Bruno and Nam (the owners) offer a genuine welcome and value for money in a local (non chain) business that is in a great location. Rooms are clean and well tended to, the only issue would be that the beds are a little hard but after a few days you soon get used to them. The beach is a short walk away and we had some of our best food of the trip in the beach hut restaurants for about 750 Baht for two people including drinks (£14!!!!)

If you ask nicely Nam might even show you her skills at carving fantastically intricate vegetable decorations that she does for the food.

All in all a very enjoyable week which didn't feel like you were staying at a hotel at all. More like and old friends very large house :)

Thanks Bruno and Nam.

A wonderful resort, clean, calm and beautiful, the facilities are superb and the staff even better! This is not all prim efficiency and saluting doormen, but a little oasis set slightly back from the more recognisable resorts, as a result we got the feeling that the hospitality was genuine and strangely more at home than we were expecting at 30 degrees in January. Just down from the hotel on the beach there are a few nice beach bars and restaurants, which were cheap but good quality and its a 5 minute walk to the main street and the rest of the bars and restaurants... if you want late night music the beach was more lively, you can sing along with the band doing covers such as "Don't look back in Anjer" (and no that's not a typo!) or just sit back on your balcony and enjoy the view! We had a truly wonderful week and only wish we could have stayed there longer!

Room Tip: just ask them if you can have a look!! :)

We stayed 4 nights at the Riverside Resort and Spa. On entry we had a warm welcome and a choice of rooms with Nam, the wife of the owner. Our spacious room on the third floor had a superb and relaxing view to the pool and beach. Being on the corner of the building, the room also had an extra side window allowing us to view the surrounding idyllic hills. The bathroom was spacious with a tub and a shower. But note the water pressure was weak our whole stay. The housekeeping staff were attentive and friendly. Breakfast was plentiful and with waiter service. Chef was friendly. Fantastic location if you like being a tiny bit away from the shops and restaurants (but only a 4 min walk to get to those) and only a 2 min walk from the hotel to the beach front.

Only tiny points to comment upon for improvement, one being that at peak season prices you would expect the spa to be working, the jacuzzi was broken all week but the sauna was working. Also our balcony had a broken light that needed a bulb replacing and within the 3 days and reminders, it simply was not fixed. We were given a torch however. (Minor detail but just saying.)

Room Tip: Ask if there is choice to look at a few options. :)

This is a beautiful property, built with the best inn-keepers traditions in mind. The rooms are great, with all the modern conveniences but also having a touch of traditional Thai wood-craft.

The lounge, the terrace, the grounds are immaculate. The outdoors pool is simply divine!! Large, clean and warm - it has the river, the beach and the incredible Thai sky as its backdrop.

Bruno, the co-owner is Swiss and with his Thai family, he and his partner have managed to provide an indelible vacation experience in a Thai beach town

Eat at the beach shacks behind the gate - there are three- go to the last one on the right - the food is delicious. Nothing beats watching the Thai sunset, followed by a great fish dinner, with sand on your feet and the sound of waves (and the ubiquitous candle parachutes floating away in the night sky!!!)

Overall, very relaxing period !!

Room Tip: Views are best in the tower....access to pool etc is best on the terrace rooms. Each is wonderful

We enjoyed 8 nights at the Riverside Resort. Our room was on the second floor of the main building and it was wonderful, very spacious and always kept spotlessly clean by housekeeping.

The hotel location is perfect, only a 5 min walk to the restaurants and bars in Bang Niang. The pool and landscaped garden is a lovely place to relax and the beach is only a short (50m) walk through the gate at the bottom of the garden where you’ll find some brilliant restaurants, it is the ideal place to enjoy the sunset.

We would recommend this resort to anyone visiting Khao Lak.

My wife and I have visited Khao Lak a couple of times before and we really love the unspoilt nature of the area. When researching for this years trip I was intrigued by the top rating for the Riverside Resort as I had seen it from the beach in previous years and was a little put off as it is set back a hundred metres or so from the sand. Thank goodness for Tripadvisor and people taking the time to share experiences. This place is a real gem.

If you are a nervous, inexperienced traveller who requires the comfort blanket of a Ramada, or a Holiday Inn chain style hotel, who yearns to claim an intrepid holiday adventure yet will eat in the hotel restaurant every night and get a little stressed when things go slightly wrong then you are unlikely to book the Riverside Resort. However, if you value authenticity and individuality and accept that things can sometimes take a little bit longer than ''I want it here and I want it now'' then look no further.

The rooms are really well designed and the housekeeping standards are as good as anywhere
in the world. The outside areas are beautifully presented and the pool area is just lovely.
Breakfast is a la carte and it is wonderful. A bit hit and miss sometimes but you get there in the end and the quality is superb - charming people genuinely aiming to please.

It is a short walk to the beach but when you arrive.... real Thailand. Genuine restaurants and bars run by local families, genuine massage huts genuine people, genuine atmosphere.....the Thailand of old. We stayed for 10 nights and ate on the beach every single night, the food and warmth of welcome was sensational. In particular do not miss the Ton Son restaurant and bar. There are many restaurants and bars in the small town only a few minutes walk away, but not of interest to us... why bother when you can chill out with your feet in the sand, surrounded by like minded people and pay a fraction of the price? The value for money is just extraordinary.

Bruno the owner / manager is a true character. Extremely helpful prior to arrival and always available during our stay. He always has time to talk and we shared some interesting conversations.
His team is a credit to the success of the hotel.

Ten days stay and just one small gripe....more powerful torches please for the night time walk to the beach.

In summary... if you want an authentic Thailand experience backed up with superb facilities, genuine people and incredible cleanliness then book this hotel. Without doubt the best value for money in Khao Lak.

Have just spent the last 7 nights at this hotel from 20th November and what a great place to stay. After a hectic few days in Chaing Mai arrived at the hotel at 1.00am, being met at the airport, which was arranged through Bruno. The hotel is a 10 minute stroll to the main shops, bars and restaurants, its a good idea to take a torch with you at night time as some parts of the road are quite dark but safe. The beach is only a few minutes walk away, through a gate at the end of the garden. Our room was on the first floor with amazing views overlooking the river and towards the sea. The room and bathroom are both of a good size and kept really clean, there is also a good size balcony with amazing views. I did find the bed a bit hard, but after having a word with Bruno he soon found a matress topper, which definately helped the aching back. This hotel is everything you need for a relaxing holiday and Bruno and the staff do everything they can to make sure your holiday is hassle free.
