We stayed for 11 nights this month, March 14. This resort is very quiet and very relaxing. We stayed in a premier villa.
PLUS POINTS
Excellent rooms, very large and everything you could need provided. Bottled water daily, well stocked mini bar, tea and coffee.
WIFI that really does work with no problems
Drinks, cocktails with branded spirits
Food menu for lunch at bar very varied and reasonable price, both Thai and continental items available.
Good choice of food at breakfast. Buffet style with omelettes etc cooked to order.
Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Ed, Tai, Bai and Jai-Jai. Thank you Tai for my espresso martini.
Brilliant location, close to many restaurants and massage places on the beach and close, 15 mins, to Khaolak centre, 300thb in a taxi.
Swimming pools, warm, clean and lovely swim up bar. Plenty of sun beds without having to get up at the crack of dawn.
WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED
I have not given five stars, but the reasons for this are all very minor and would not take much to put right.
We arrived after a long flight at 23:00. We were checked in quickly and taken to our room. We started to unpack but being hungry and thirsty decided to go to the bar. It was closed. We headed to reception and asked where we could get food, we were told nowhere and we would have to wait for breakfast. For a hotel of this quality the ability to get something like a sandwich 24 /7 would be expected.
In the room we were disturbed several mornings whilst enjoying our morning coffee by the cleaner, this was before 9 am. Through the door she could see we were sat in bed but still knocked. Supplying a do not disturb sign would overcome this problem.
There is a shuttle bus into Khaolak. We were advised at check in and by our tour operator and their rep in resort that this was free. On going to book the bus we were advised it would cost us 150 THB per person as we were going after 4pm. We know this is not expensive and it is not the cost that bothered us. It is being told that the bus is included and then it is not. We got a taxi which cost us 300, the same price and took us exact key to where we wanted to go.
Plenty of sun loungers but for comfort some kind of cushioning would be preferred.
It has been mentioned before that lack of staff speaking. English is a problem. We are very open minded, we are in Thailand so why should people speak English? But it did become annoying at times particularly at the bar and in reception when asking of the simplest things. Ed and his cousin who had just chained the bar staff were excellent and also Bai. Perhaps employing one fluent English speaker at reception would help.
Vary the night time entertainment, it is the same band every night, all be it some nights have additional themed activities.
At check in and when we were shown the room we were given flip flops for use. In other hotels we have stayed in of this quality these have always been free to take away. We assumed the same here as there was nothing to indicate anything differs. Until check out when we were told they were £5 a pair. We gave one set back but had to pay for the other. We didnot know we had been wearing shoes worn by others.

we had a fabulous holiday and the improvements are only minor things. I would recommend this hotel to couples wanting a very quiet, relaxing holiday. It is very quiet at night with the bar closing at midnight and most customers off to bed way before this time,

Dear Manucaz21,

Many thanks for your great comments. I am sorry that we let you sleep hungry the first night actually our standard is Club Sandwiches to the late arriving rooms free of charge.
A Non Disturb sign is installed soon and pool loungers will get mats soon as well. The shuttle but remains free till 16.00 for some agents but as of May 01. all busses are chargeable at Bht. 120.- pre person per way. English speaking staff... hmmmm... unemployment here is 0.4%, the government make it very difficult employ foreigners ( Philippine's etc ) there is simply nobody on the "Market" English speaking or not. We will add another 2 Swiss staff in the management and hope to get another 5-6 Philippine's on a temporary basis here soon. This will certainly improve the communication in the resort. I make it sound bad too, its actually not bad, but don't expect a cleaner or gardener to understand your wish in changing a seat in the airline you fly back. I think with a bit of patience everybody is understood.

Again, busy working on perfection here, many thanks

Nice resort with on the whole very good staff. The resort is set out well with good pool and beach area.Staff on the most part were attentive and very helpful only issues were getting served in the mini mart in the evening on both occasions the person serving us was on her mobile and continued on her mobile while trying to serve us and on two occasions at the pool bar the member of staff was to busy watching videos on his phone to notice customers waiting to be served. Those are small issues on a very good resort. We picked the resort because it was couples only and the information we had on it was that it was a 5 minute ride from khao lak . It is a good 10/15 minutes from Khoa Lak by taxi. If you do not want to eat in the resort there are a number of beach huts serving excellent food right next to the resort on the beach which is never busy and goes on for miles .This was our first visit to Thailand and looking at the resorts next to ours I believe we picked the best one. Did not try the spa or the gym so cannot comment on the quality of equipment or service .Overall good resort nothing that matters to complain about we will be returning next year.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view room as you get a open view with loungers outside it is worth the extra

Dear Steve F,

Many thanks for your comments. I am very sorry about the Mini Mart Staff, I will inform the company that rent this facility to improve their staff's behavior whilst in the resort. As for my staff member at the pool bar I will have a look too. We get the comments many times that our service staff is playing on their phones, please note that we use I-pods to place orders for food and beverages, it may seem they play but they actually work.. :-)
In order not to create confusion, we do not offer sea view rooms as recommended by you. our room types are
- Palm Villa 64 sqm and with garden view only
- Palm Villa Premier 64 sqm ( the one you had ) near beach and Pool or Near the Lagoon offering some sea view
- 1 Bedroom Pool Villas with partial Sea view ( 136 sqm )
- 2 bedroom Pool Villas with full sea view ( 204 sqm )
and as of end of December we will present
Palm Villa Elite with garden view, private outdoor Jacuzzi and open-air rain shower and about 110 sqm of private space and gardens.

We are looking forward to have you back next year

Best regards

We were slightly apprehensive on arrival, as we appeared to be a long way from the main area of Khao Lak, as said earlier, around 20 mins in a taxi, no tuk tuks seen all the time we were in the resort. Our experience was the taxi's were all 300 bht whether the reception called them or you picked them up in town.
The first impressions of the reception were good, welcome drink cooling towel etc. and although the room wasn't ready, we were early, all was ok. Really good outlook from reception, down the fish ponds to the beach, pool, restaurant/bar area.
Once ready, we found the rooms were large, clean and well appointed; although I have had better shampoos etc those provided were fine. A bar of soap would have been a good addition, liquid soap only available. My wife always brings her own toiletries so no issues there. The only problem was the air con. Looking back and comparing with others staying I don’t think our’s worked properly the whole of our stay. I did report it about 4 times, and someone always came to look at it and twice it seemed to be part repaired, but it always seemed to break down again. In the end I just learned to live with it and use more mosquito repellent!
On to mosquito’s! Other resorts I have stayed, where there have been mosquito’s tended to use a spray system to attempt to control them, but here there was no such operation evident, hence I got the bites to prove it, especially if we stayed down to watch the fantastic sunsets.
We didn’t eat in the signature restaurant, however the breakfasts were excellent, with a varied choice, not easy to do with a breakfast menu, but achieved here! The egg station was “eggsceptional”. The beach bar restaurant was also superb for lunch, probably better than most people imagine, because although more expensive than the beach bars, it was always of a higher standard than “the beach”, with drinks twice the price!! We did have one disappointing meal there, which was the seafood barbeque. This was on two points. Firstly the buffet which we had to accompany the fish we had chosen was what could only at best be described as disappointing. The breakfast buffet was probably better. Secondly, as we went to be seated we asked if we could select our fish, we were aware that most people had eaten as seating was limited. We were told to be seated order then come back and choose our fish, which we did. When we had ordered at the table, we then went back to order our fish to be beaten to the choice by 4 people who had just arrived off the beach, who then left us short of what we were wanting. This we were assured was not going to be a problem, as there were more, just not on display. When they arrived however some of our order seemed totally different from what we had chosen, namely the tiger prawns, were definitely much smaller than we had chosen. We put it down to shrinkage, until we ate elsewhere. Unfortunately this was enough to put us off eating here on an evening, which was a shame as the staff were always extremely pleasant and welcoming. The entertainment was always good but not too overpowering.
Once down at the beach, the view was fantastic, with the beach running for miles in both directions. Also after an orientation tour of the beach, we were less concerned about the distance from the main part of the resort, as if you turned right, along the beach, there were several bars/Restaurants, for a change in scenery. There was also a good restaurant at the main road around 50mtrs to the left of the entrance to the hotel.
As a whole we found the language barrier was no problem what so ever, but I can see what other reviewers mean by the difficulty in translation with some staff, but to be honest, it was never an issue. I think if I felt as strongly as some who have reviewed I would probably stay at home for my holidays!
My wife did use the spa and if we returned I don't think she would use it again. First time ever she's had blood drawn when getting a manicure!! We used the facilities to get ready on our last day, late departure, full hotel = No room extensions, and found the staff quite abrupt, but this was probably a language/culture thing!
Would I go back? The Jury is still out. I have been to quite a few “resort” hotels, and it's up there with most of them, a lot of positives, and none of the negatives were enough to make me say no! If there weren't so many places to see in the world!!!
But thank you to all the staff for a great time.

Room Tip: Other tip. Don't be tempted to walk to the point in the distance to the right. It looks idylic f...

This was an amazing hotel! We spent a whole week here and had a great time. For a holiday resort we felt that the breakfast time ended too early at 10.30 - it would've been nice had it continued until 11.30, especially as the restaurant wasn't being used for lunch. The breakfast is laid out beautifully, so there is minimal crowding, and consists of a variety of dishes (eastern and western). There are very few tables of 4, and staff refused to move tables together to accommodate us, so on two occasions we had to wait for a table to become available, and once we were seated separately! Staff are very slow to clear up empty plates, and when plates are cleared, one or two are cleared at a time, and staff need to be requested to pick up the rest of the empty plates on the table. Staff are friendly during the first few days of your visit, but as the days go on, and especially as they come to realise that you are not interested in signing up for their dinner buffet, they begin to avoid you and service/greetings also becomes lax.

On our first night we decided it would be easiest to eat in the hotel's restaurant, but when we were given the menu, we were shocked at the prices and the photos indicating the small portion sizes. We immediately changed our minds and headed into town to the Gold Elephant Restaurant (which is a 20 minute drive away), but which we'd eaten at during our previous trip to Khao Lak and which we ate at every night during our stay here. We arranged a taxi with the hotel (which worked out to be cheaper than the hotel shuttle!, which surprisingly charges to drop off guests into town), and our driver, Toi, drove us to and from the restaurant every night. If you plan to take this route, do ask the hotel about Toi, he is one of the friendliest and kindest people you will meet in Khao Lak.

We ate lunch at the hotel twice and were shocked at the prices and not too happy about the quality of the food. Had the prices and quality been more desirable, we would not have hesitated to have lunch here everyday. The hotel does have a small shop on site, we frequented it for ice cream runs, which we were appalled to find out, cost only 14 Baht in town and we were paying 55 Baht at the hotel!!

The rooms are beautifully laid out, and although we weren't located immediately on the beach or very close to the pools, we were happy with our location. The only complaint would be the irregularity of the times at which housekeeping decided to clean our rooms everyday. Furthermore, there is no way to indicate 'do not disturb' as there are sliding doors through which you enter the rooms. Some suction hooks and simple signs would be advisable. Also, you are generally provided with only one key for the room (very unusual these days at any hotel of this calibre). When we asked for a second key we were told that they had to check to see if they had another key and that if we lost the key we would then be charged for it - we opted to stick with one key.

The lounge chairs are plenty, but can become somewhat uncomfortable as there are no cushions on them. Having read earlier reviews, it seems that management is looking into this, but sadly, there was no sign of them during our visit. It would also be advisable to have certain chairs in a smoking area - there is nothing worse for a non-smoker than having your neighbours smoking whilst you are trying to sun yourself! There are plenty of pools/jacuzzis and showers to prevent overcrowding. The sea is calm and lovely to swim in, the water is not clear, but is like a warm bath - but there are jellyfish around, so just keep your eyes open for them - we had sightings on one day, but didn't hear of any incidents.

The wifi around the resort worked beautifully and, unlike in some other establishments, you were not constantly logged out - which was a bonus. Another bonus was the absence of children - which made the pools much more pleasant.

We didn't visit the spa as we felt that the prices, like in the restaurant, were extortionate! In fact, during our entire stay, we only saw one person getting a massage by the pools and didn't hear of or see anyone getting treatments in the spa. There are more reasonable options in town!

Would definitely recommend this hotel as a great place to stay - but look elsewhere for your food!

Dear chokri148

Many thanks for spending a fantastic week at the Resort. We trust that the prices we charge in a resort like our are very adequate and compared to our competitors rather low. Our Spa is the best running one of the whole Kata Group, we are very happy with the performance and income, and our guests that use the Spa compare it like a Mercedes here to a Toyota in town.

Again many thanks for your review and we hope to have you back here soon again

Just returned from my first trip to Thailand with my 18 year old daughter and had a wonderful stay at the Beyond Resort. Our room, although set back from the beach and a standard Palm Villa was anything but basic. Everything about it was huge and luxurious from the bed to even the shower. The staff were all lovely especially Eddie at the beach bar who never ceased to make me smile with his lovely bubbly personality and announcements that it was again' Happy Hour Ma'am'. Although there have been negative comments with regard to the lack of spoken English this was never a problem with the front desk whose English is more than adequate and elsewhere in the resort a little miming and pointing at the menu always elicited the desired response. Although travelling with an 18 year old we both appreciated the no child policy at the resort and the lack of music by the swimming pool also added to the relaxing atmosphere which permeates the whole resort. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort and may well return although I have a policy of never visiting the same resort twice. Outside the hotel would also recommend 'Undiscovered Khoa Lak' tours who took us on a day trip canoeing down the river and elephant treking in Khao Lak National Park, the guide 'Oil' was totally delightful and very informative. The restaurants along the beach from the hotel where also lovely particularly 'Jasmine' where we had a great meal. I understand the hotel is thinking of offering an 'All Inclusive' package in the low season but I feel that this may have a very negative affect on these family run beachside restaurants and would question if this option is really necessary. Overall a lovely lovely holiday only spoiled by a 12 hour flight with BA on the return trip Bangkok to London which had to be endured with no entertainment system and a tired miserable crew!!. Tip - fly Emirates even though this means a stop in Dubai they are one of the best airlines out there.

Dear Coopell,

Many thanks for your nice review of the hotel and our services. Happy to see that you had a good time here. The AI is on offer for the Low Season only, the reason is that most f the local shops will close from May to October and the choice outside is limited. Additionally, it is not a compulsory package.

Hope to have you back soon again

Currently staying at this wonderf resort in a palm villa. The room is large, well equipped, tastefully decorated and very clean a very beautiful room . The pool is lovely and is very prettily laid out with a stunning view of the beach. We have found the staff to be very helpful and polite and we have not found it difficult at all to communicate, they always have a smile for you. We have three more days here in paradise before heading over to the Beyond resort at Krabi , I hope it's as lovely as this place

I understand while travelling in Thailand that english is a second language. Ive stayed at many thailand resorts and have had no trouble.

The resort is absolutely stunning, breakfast is tasty and fresh with eggs made to order - fantastic!!

Two rounds of happy hours through the day - love that, how couldnt you!

My only negative about this hotel is the staff. Basic, and i mean totally basic requests to the front reception through dialling 0 were failed on countless attempts - from requesting our room to be made up, room service plates to be collected and even booking taxis to town. this is a real disappointment. I note other travellers comments on this, and i hope as Robert the hotel manager has previously replied that they will be running english classes in the low season. I hope this helps along with some basic customer friendly training.

On an absolute positive, the staff which are working from the Phillipines are just INCREDIBLE - they are fantastic. Two, a gentlman working the beach house adn the lady working the breakfast and beach house. I can not rave enough about these two.. There was also a lovely local Thai girl in the breakfast house, she wears a white belt who is the most sweetest thai person i have come across - three people that have made my staff here most enjoyable! When you stay at the resort, make sure you introduce yourself to them - they will make you well welcomed!

I used trip advisor to book all my hotels througout my staff in Thai during Feb and March 2014, and i hope this helps other travelers.

Cheers

Dear BeaSmith2020
many thanks for your review of the resort. Whilst I know my staff's English is not perfect, so is my Thai, even after almost 30 years here. I am very proud of them in many ways, and the surprising thing is that mostly native English speaking clients have language problems, and most others get along fine. I will pass on your comments to you favorites in the F&B outlets, they will be trilled for sure.

Again many thanks for taking your time to comment on the resort
