“Amazing”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

The people make this stay amazing! My family (including two children under 2) stayed for 8nights here with friends recently and could not have had a better time. The facilties were first class however the service offered from the beautiful staff made our stay an unforgetable experience. Around the resort there is lots to see and do however we often did not leave the Ramada as it had everything on offer. My wife completed the cooking class with the head chef (Nitt - wrong spelling im, sure) and is still talking about how amazing he was.

Room Tip: Can not go worng

My wife and I recently spent two nights at the Ramada in Khao Lak, right on the beach. It was so relaxing and peaceful. Although the hotel was busy, the large grounds that the resort is on make it feel as though there are far less guests than there actually are. The effect is that you fell very relaxed in the quiet atmosphere. I must especially comment on the breakfast buffet which was great value for money. The food was plentiful, fresh and delicious. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The only small complaint I have is that the internet service was extremely slow and unrelaible in the cafe/ library.

Room Tip: Get a room on the upper floors for a better view of the resorts lovely grounds.

We bought this week on an online deal, which has been re-released while we have been here and we've bought it again to come next year. Best holiday we've had! Khao Lak is quiet, relaxing and perfect. The hotel staff are fabulous. The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are stunning.
I do have a couple of criticisms (and I know it's worth putting them here because management read the reviews). The polished tiles are beautiful, but incredibly slippery when wet, my son slipped and fell coming into our room at least twice and once in reception, we have put towels in both doorways of our room to try and prevent this, maybe a door mat could be put inside the doorways of the rooms?
Breakfast in The Kitchen was lovely and typical fare, my son enjoyed being able to have croissants for breakfast everyday (wait 'til I take him to Paris!). I did order a Mocha on one morning to get a decent coffee, but found it too strong on coffee, the iced chocolate was too strong on the day we had afternoon tea too, like they're using cocoa instead of drinking chocolate.
We ate a lot of our meals in the resort, there are cheaper places, but the resort was cheap compared to home and very nice. My son loved the kids menu and he tried most of the things on it. Quite often we asked to substitute things and only once was this not done. Most of our meals in the resort were room service because it's no more expensive than in the restaurant. Kids meals are around $3, pizzas less than $10, local meals around $8.
We ate at a few of the places on the beach, but as it was so wet didn't get to all we wanted to try. The beach plaes are about half the prices of te hotel, ridiculously cheap. Tonson's (right next to the resort on the left) was good, though limited western options for kids, their crumbed fish and chicken was yummy though. My husband can recommend the Thai Green Curry, though it is incredibly hot (he likes hot food). We also went to Chung Foh (I think, right out of the resort on the beach, keep going 'til you get to a concrete wall with a wooden ladder up it), just as cheap as Tonson's and icecream for dessert!
We enjoyed happy hour round the pool, around $4 a cocktail is always good in my book! Wine is very expensive compared to Australia and I regret not bringing a couple of bottles with me.
It did rain most days just after lunch and one night we had a very impressive thunderstorm, the frogs were sensational! The biggest problem is that from where we were there is no way (that we found) or getting to reception without getting wet, if you follow the ground floor around you end up under reception and behind Mellow Bean.
We had a free massage in the resort spa and were a little disdainful after using the beach massage services (about $10), but after speaking to others we upgraded our massages to the aroma massage for $17 and loved it! My only criticism is that at home you are given a sheet to say where you'd prefer not to be massaged (eg: stomach and chest) and I'd like to be given that option. We tried to book in again for the next day (our last day) and they were fully booked, so they're very popular! I'd also like to have a brochure on what the spa offers in our room, so I can read it at my leisure, also online so I can get excited before I arrive ;)
As mentioned in a previous review the kids club is not consistent and does not reflect what is advertised, they seem to struggle to get many kids and I'm wondering if the activities were advertised in the guest books in the rooms whether there'd be more kids interested? They're also trying to compete with the pool and that's always going to be a challenge.
We didn't bring our 8 month old daughter as we weren't sure how a newly crawling babe who puts everything in her mouth would go, but she would have been fine and we will bring her next time.
There's not a lot to do in Khao Lak, we went to the markets everyday they were on (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday). We went on an elephant trekking and waterfall tour booked through the hotel, we were given a discount without asking ;) and it was great. Our guide was informative and wonderful with our son who had a broken arm, helping him over the rocks on the path to the waterfall. We were the only ones on the tour so he also took us to a small cashew factory, I'm sure it was a ploy to get more money out of us, but it wasn't much for us and made a difference to them so why not. We also went on the free tour to the turtle rehab and that was a great morning out, great work going in there.
There's a small grocery shop out the front and around the corner from the hotel, Chang beer 60 baht for a big bottle (about $2 Australian), cheaper than the seven 11 up on the main road.
We loved our week here and can't wait to come back next year! Sorry I got a bit excited and wrote lots, but I hope it's helpful!

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights, and at that time there was a tsunami warning! The hotel's emergency preparations kicked in and all of us were herded to their evacuation site at the rooftop. There, they had life jackets, inflatable rafts, radios needed in case a tsunami does hit. We were there for at least 4 hours and they have made every possible service to keep us comfortable. Kudos to the staff for this.

Downside was that the food was a bit disappointing, some restaurant staff had attitude and the activities written for the day were not being followed.... but overall most of the staff were great and very accommodating.

Room Tip: I would recommend taking a lanai room especially with children as it is very accessible to the pool...

Dear BJTEBKK,

Sunny Greetings from Ramada Resort Khao Lak !
We are glad to read that you had a relaxing holiday.
Sorry to read that some dishes did not meet your expectations. We learned that most of our guests form the Western Hemisphere prefer the food cooked not that spicy and most prefer to spice up there dishes on their own. The attitude of all my employees is positive and this is one of our hiring requirments and service spirits. I do apology that you or your wife did not get the attention at one occasion due to rush hour at the Pool Bar Happy Hour :)
Activities are offered and can be changed according to the weather conditions and we recomend to contact our Pool Bar Team. We prefer not to whistle our guests like in All inclusive Clubs :) Thank you very much for your comments concerning our Safety Procedures and your support during evacuation.
We look forward to welcome you back soon
Sincerely yours, Michael Vorderleitner, General Manager

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Ramada Khao Lak. Having read all the great reviews on trip advisor we were not disappointed! As a family of five with kids ranging from 2 to 12 it is often hard to please everybody. The Ramada and Khao Lak managed it though, our little 2 year old girl loved the pool and what a great idea putting a small amount of sand next to the showers meaning that she could make sandcastles to her heart's contents whilst at the poolside.

Our 12 year old and 7 year old boys loved the pool and beach and with it all being so close we felt that they were safe at all times. The best bit about the Ramada are the pool staff they are amazing nothing is too much trouble and the way they were with kids was fantastic always having a word with them playing footy on the beach, thai boxing in the garden and sea boxing in the pool. Special mention must go to A, M, Pong, Nia, Gorge and Ing. Our 7 year old cried when we left which to be honest is unheard of!

Whilst we were there the tsunami alarms went off due to an earth quake in the Indian Ocean. I have got to say that this was very frightening, however, once again the hotel rose to the occasion. We were ushered to the roof (for 4 hours) and towels were brought, food and chairs. The manager Michael spoke with us regularly to keep us updated. Luckily it never happened! My only criticism has to be that there was no rail on the roof and with a two year old we had to keep her in her pram all the time.

Khao Lak itself i feel is still recovering from the last Tsunami and the town is filled with people who have suffered greatly. But they do with such a great smile on their faces! We used Key travel (next to Picnoccios in the town his wife does the pancakes) for our trips (elephant trekking, waterfall trip etc) and he was brilliant (although he talks for England!).

We will definitely return to the Ramada keep up the good work Michael and give your team a great big pat on the back!!

We stayed for a week at the Khao Lak Ramada, as the 2nd stop of a 3 stop Thailand vacation. We chose Khao Lak for the beach, and then chose the Ramada, as we have stayed in many Ramada city hotels in Europe over the years and always enjoyed the stays.

The Khao Lak Ramada did not let us down and we had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is basically built as a "U" shape, with the restaurant, reception, etc. at the bottom of the U, the pool and lawns in the middle, the beach across the top, and the rooms forming the U. On one side there are also some chalets.

The check-in (and later check-out) was flawless, where you are invited to sit on some sofas in a lounge area with a welcome drink whilst the receptionists do the paperwork. After that, you are escorted to your room.

The rooms were as expected with all the normal facilities of a modern hotel. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant beneath reception, where it is possible to sit indoors or outside on a terrace. Good choice of food, western and Thai; the staff were friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. There is also a "cafe" to have afternoon tea, cakes etc. Taking a walk along the beach, there are also local restaurants, where it is possible to get Thai food very cheaply. The pool is large and not particularily deep, with a bar on one side. Near the pool, there are also tables and chairs to have a light meal or a drink. All in all, a good choice of places and things to eat.

To walk back from the hotel to the village takes 10 minutes or so, and there is also the normal range of massage, food, bars, tailors that can be found in many parts of Thailand.

If we went to Khao Lak again, we would definitely choose the Ramada again. The facilities, as well as the service levels are excellent.
