“Very nice owner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2013

Stayed there for 3 nights, welcomed by the owner/manager Khun Rattana with nice smile and a drink. It was important to me to see a welcoming smile after travelling all the way from Hatyai to Surat thani to Khao Sok with no pre booking.(it was recommended by the minibus driver).
Khun Rattana and her two daughters and other workers in this place are all nice people and were helpful to me during my stay. I have been to Southern Thailand for 8 times and I have to say I seldom met with rude people and most people are nice but Khun Rattana is super nice. Even some of her friends who had breakfast there told me they felt Khun Rattana is such a nice person, which I couldn't agree more.
Also must try the Thai massage done by one of her daughters. The facilities of the massage/spa is very nice, can hear the sound of the jungle when you enjoy your massage.
As for the food, i saw local people(probably people from Bangkok) were brought by tourist guide to have breakfast in this place so i believe it is kind of a famous restaurant with good cooking in local standard. I tried Tom Yam Kong and I think it is more spicy and sour than the normal Tom Yam Kong out there, which I didn't have problem at all and in fact I like it.
It is true about the monkey, on my last day there, i put my breakfast outside of my room and the monkey came to grab it.
Room is kind of basic and natural but the price is reasonable. Can hear the sound of the jungle at night.
They got a cat by the name of Shum Si, which is a nice and cute cat with 3 colors.
Rent a bike through Rattana and went to Khao Lak, and found a very beautiful beach. This was a pleasant surprise for me that it was actually able to reach a very beautiful beach from Khao Sok National Park which is in the middle of the tropical rainforest within a few hours by motobike. If I got the chance to go to Khao Sok again, i will rent a bicycle this time and go to the beach again.
Saw many elephants along my way to Khao Lak(from Khao Sok). It is a very beautiful road.
Overall very happy with the stay. Khun Rattana is indeed a very nice lady. I miss Shum Si already.

Room Tip: Must try the Thai oil massage. The environment is very good. I think the price for a good oil massag...

She made the place feel like you were just staying at a relative's house, visiting for the summer or something. The place itself isn’t special from the rest but we enjoyed our stay. The price was right and the owner Rattana was very pleasant and accommodating. If you are squeamish or prefer comforts such as aircon and wifi over budget, this is probably not the place for you. But if you are just looking for a place to relax and don’t mind rustic, this could be a good choice.

Although the buildings and furnishings were a bit tired, Rattana keeps the rooms pretty clean otherwise. I do suggest not to leave any trash in your room unless they are tightly sealed and away from the sleeping area. There is also a large bin between the path to the bungalows and the restaurant for trash if you need it. Also, anything left on your porch will be subject to monkey inspections in the morning. Talk about close encounters.

The first room we stayed in #3 had an ant nest in the bathroom. We had expected a few bugs here and there but we discovered a horde of ants on accident after water was sprayed on the ants’ entrance from the shower. Rattana gave us room #4 instead and we had no problems with that one. The place is in the open jungle so it is not bug proof, soundproof or actually resorty in any way.

Rattana has a small restaurant with reasonable prices and we also learned to cook pad thai with her for 200bht. Kind of expensive but we had a fun time. They don't have wifi but there are a few internet cafes around. Also, down the main road that leads to this resort, was a restaurant and hotel for the same price that did have wifi. I think it was free for guests but everyone else is supposed to pay 1b a min for your own device or 2b a min for one of their computers. All in all we enjoyed our stay at Khao Sok Island Resort.

Room Tip: Just stay away from room #3. Otherwise, she is pretty accommodating. She'll let you look at the...

Easily the most memorable stay and friendliest accommodation i've experienced in Asia to date. Simply outstanding food in the onsite restaurant and the hospitality was hard to beat.
Rattana is a gracious host and will do anything for you and take great pleasure in cooking up any dish any which way.. Even if you don't stay, go and sample the menu.. Highly recommend the thom kha!

Every guest who stayed while i was there was welcomed by big smiles and a warm generosity that seems to be increasingly harder to find.. I was so happy there i stayed nearly a week amidst the lush peaceful grounds, in a patch of jungle by the river and a small grove of rubber trees.
Cute, basic but cosy bamboo bungalows are set high off the ground with a shady balcony with table and chairs to ponder when the local troupe of monkeys will come swinging by again. (close your windows before leaving as they are known to enter rooms/balconies and pinch things!)
It's secluded enough be quiet and but only 2 minutes walk across a bridge from the road across a bridge. Nice to be away from the busy road and screened from the music coming from the bars nearby.

I miss my khao sok island retreat. A unique place to be - where else can you expect to get a bed, fed, a haircut, a cooking AND thai language class, plus lots of laughs amidst a stunning national park?

Thanks for a wonderful memorable week.

Initially we were planning on staying in Khao Sok Island resort for one night. After meeting Rattaya and eating her home cooked Thai food, we extended our stayed for 2 additional nights, although it was hard to understand her English she was very accommodating and friendly. She allowed us to watched her prepared and cook our meals. Everything on her menu is made from scratch she will give you a cooking class. Rooms are average with basic necessities ie fan, bed, hot water your own bathroom and balcony. You get to experience nature first hand.
The resort is about 5 minute walk from the Khao Sok national park.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before you book.
