“Gem of a hotel, the perfect place to relax”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2010

Just come back after two weeks of total relaxtion at the chalets,We were late arriving due to a delay at Doha, but from arriving at Bangkok airport to leaving at the chalets we were so well looked after, the delay didnt matter.
The chalet we had was a good size, having a king size bed, colour tv with a choice of english channels, two of them movie channels, well stocked mini bar in the fridge, but we brought our own stuff from the local 7/11,hotel did'nt mind. The Chalet was cleaned to a high standard everyday, and clean towels every day.
The chalets are located are in lush jungle type gardens, which are well looked after, which added to the feeling of privacy.
The swimming pool is a good size with plenty of sunbeds and pool towels.
We ate in the hotel restaurant a couple of times a bit expensive compared to the local restraurants in the village but the food in the hotel was very good.Same about the hotel masseur you can get cheaper on the beach.
Over all a gem of a hotel in an excellent location.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at the Regents Chalet Hotel in Thailand.

Accommodation: This was exactly what we were expecting. The rooms have air conditioning, fridge and a TV. The staffs were very nice and make a real effort to make sure you have a good time. There were very few people staying at the hotel when we visited. One thing to note is that there a number of earlier reviews on this site for the nearby Holiday Inn hotel which is now a separate location but was once part of the same complex

Trips. Firstly we went on the one day trip to the Bridge on the River Kwai. This was a great day out with lots to see and do. We also included the Elephant riding option which was excellent fun. We also went on a Temple tour to Petchburi which we would also recommend.

We found that we could ask at reception for a golf buggy that would take us close to the local village. At the end of the evening we would then ask the porters/watchmen at the nearby Holiday Inn to call for the buggy when we wanted to return

Eating out: My wife and I spent the majority of the time in the village. We had lots of lovely meals at J&Ks and Sawasdee. At both places we were made very welcome and the price of the drinks and food was approximately half of that in the hotel. Sawasdee also have a noodle cart which serves some of the best noodles I have ever had. These were only 30 baht and were an ideal snack.

Shopping: I had 2 suits made and my wife had a top made at Kings Fashions. We are extremely happy with the results. Karamat was very efficient and courteous. We bought numerous other local treasures but dont forget to do a bit of haggling - its all part of the fun.

Overall we really enjoyed our time here.

We stayed here after a couple of days in Bangkok. It was fantastic. We are a family of two adults plus three children (12, 9 and 6). We had asked for two chalets nexct to each other and got two chaletls with an adjoining door which was brilliant. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and have a good sized balcony. There is a good sized shower room and a fridge as well. The chalets are surrounded by trees and green vegetation and a short walf rom all chalets is an excellent swimming pool which caters for all ages. Other facilities include a full sized snooker table (small charge), petanque, an exercise bike and treadmill and a library area with lots of books.

The swimming pool is right by the beach. The sea was baking but not clear blue. There were also lots of jelly fish around so we didn't swim in the sea although we did jetski (£10 for half an hour from a guy who walks up and down the beach). The beach was fascinating with loads of tiny crabs in places and lots of beautiful shells.

Best place to eat is the Little Shop - 300m on the left from the chalets. Great breakfast, great snacks, great dinner and friendly service. Another good find was the Beach Shack which is about 400m to the right of the chalets along the beach (but not accesible by this route at high tide - you have to go via the village). We only found this place by chance on the last day of our holiday but it has free pool, free internet and they also do a great massage and hair braiding etc plus good varied food.

The village has various other eating places but we preferred the above ones because of their location. There are quite a few shops in the village, an internet place and an ATM. Everyone was friendly and DESPERATE for business as it was soooo quiet.

We did various trips from Cha-am using local taxi drivers and bargaining hard. We went elephant riding (very expensive for Thailand but good fun). We also went to monkey mountain which was good, had a good day out at the very touristy Floating Markets, spent an afternoon and evening at Hua-Hin (about £8 return taxi fare) and also went to Cha-am itself but chose the wrong day (Sunday) as it was packed out.

We fully intend to return to Cha-am at some point and the Regent Chalets was an excellent place to stay.

The entire resort is well kept and maintained. However, our chalet was not properly cleaned. Initially we were brought to the wrong chalet. That chalet smelt very musty. When we finally checked into the chalet reserved for us, we were greeted by a strong fishy smell. The hot water flask had left-over water inside, amongst other residue, and the smell was dreadful. There was a dead moth behind the tv, the remnants of a fried fish under the coffee table and the tube of a toilet roll under the sofa. I had to go to the supermarket to buy a bottle of dettol and airfreshener to disinfect the place. Inspite of my efforts, the fishy smell lingered. There were no pillow cases for our pillows. The staff was slow in responding to our requests. The resort was very empty so they closed one of the restaurants. If you do not have a car, it is inconvenient to go out for meals and shopping. On the plus side the chalet was a good size, with sufficient lighting to make the place cosy. The beach (Regent Beach) is quiet, private and more importantly clean. If the hotel made an effort to clean up the chalets properly, this resort would be a good place to visit.

We only stayed here for one night - though would have been happy to stay longer.
The semi-detached chalets are set apart in lush bushland setting. The location was charming, secluded and tranquil. The pool was clean and the water warm. The location was a little tucked away. We arrived at the Holiday Inn reception and was picked up by the cart from the Regent. From the chalets - if you walk along the beach front for about 500m you will arrive back at Holiday Inn - so it's really not that far from everyting else. The facilities here are not up-market like nearby bigger hotel chains but still very comfortable. The staff was friendly but some do not speak English (though they are all very helpful). I think families with children will have a very pleasant stay here.

We stayed at the chalets for 14 nights at the beginning of June. The previous review by nobbymolly basically sums up the hotel & area around and we can especially recommend the Little Shop (try the squid) and the irrepressible Gina's Bar. The pier restaurants in Hua Hin were also good for fresh seafood and value for money. The downside is that the reception staff are pretty unhelpful and at times were downright rude. They would not book us a taxi (we were leaving for a trip at 6.30AM), would not tell us where we could cash our traveller's cheques (the staff in the 7-11 eventually told us we could cash them at the Holiday Inn) and had the longest faces imaginable whenever we asked to access our safe deposit box. One night we got back at 1AM to find the reception unmanned and despite looking around for 10 minutes could not find any staff. Eventually we just went behind the reception counter and helped ourselves to our own room key. The real clincher though was when we booked to use the hotel minbus to get to Hua-Hin. Although we used the Regency minibus to get there, the reception staff had, without telling us, arranged for us to be picked up by a different minibus from the Holiday Inn. We waited at Hua Hin clocktower for nearly an hour, saw the Holiday Inn minibus come and go, and eventually got a taxi back to the chalets arriving at 12 midnight. The member of staff at reception wouldn't admit that she had done anything wrong and started to to argue with us, in particularly fluent English that she seemed previously not to have possessed, inferring that we were very stupid indeed for not knowing that the minibus from a completely different hotel would be picking us up - despite the fact that no-one had told us. Eventually, the duty manager came out, shoved his face in mine, and muttered come back tomorrow for refund. We got our money back (200 baht) the next day, although this was the price of the minibus, not our taxi fare. When we booked out on leaving, the clerk simply took our room key and turned her back on us without saying a word. I can honestly say that we did nothing to deserve this treatment and were not rude or pushy towards the staff. Our treatment by them really spoiled our holiday.

My wife and I got back on Thursday night from our 10 day honeymoon at the Regent Chalet and it was magic. We were picked up in a private car at the airport and our agent drove with us and made sure that we checked in with no isses. We walked round the gardens to room 229 and it was just what we wanted as it was very pretty and private. As its the quite season and with the other issues in Bangkok there was no-one else aound us at all for basically the entire holiday. The chalets are clean and have large rooms, they are furnished quite basic but to be honest we were only there to sleep. There was a large fridge which, as we were room only, was great to fill up with drink we got from the local minimart. the staff have no problem with you doing this as the hotel prices are expensive. The beds were a bit hard but I found out on the last night I could have asked for a mattress topper which would have made all the difference. The only thing missing was a bar at the pool, there was one but as it was too quite it was not really open, and no-one was serving. Not that we minded as we had ours in the fridge and we met up in the Bar in the village which was better and cheaper.

The Chalets have a fantastic large pool, which only took us about 30 minutes to get in after arriving eventhough it was 3am on our body clock and 9am Thai time. It was gorgeous and inviting and just what we need to try and overcome the slight jet lag. If you don't fancy the pool then the beach and sea is about 5 meters away so not exactly a long walk. The beach is miles long, white sand and warm sea, although in the raining season it's best not to swim in the sea due to jelly fish.

We didn't eat in the hotel as we prefer to venture out and also it is much much cheaper and better food elsewhere. Thanks to previous reviews on Tripadvisor we found the two beach cafe's the first being Sawasdee which is on the left hand side as you walk down the beach, only about 100 yards. It's run by four women and they are very friendly, the food is great and very cheap. Don't be put off by the appearance they are brillaint and they do a great massage for the best price I saw all holiday. The second one was 'The Little Shop' this is further on from Sawasdee, about 5 minutes walk, its bigger and in better nick but much the same and does a great Thai Red thick Curry, nice and spicy, yummy.

When we weren't on day trips we spent each night going into the local village, you can get the golf buggy in for free almost when ever you like. The village has plent of resturants and bars, and taylors. We tried several and can recommend the following

Sawasdee (there is a second one in the village run by a man nick named 'King' and his family, fantastic food especially the mussaman chicken curry and beef in oyster sauce. The steamed rice is great he serves it in the shape of the teddy bear! very cute

Johns - Great for english foods if you need a break from rice and curry. This is the best place for a proper breakfast with UK sausages and bacon. John is married to a Thai lady so this also has great thai food so if one of you wants UK food and the other Thai you can't beat Johns.

Gina & Owens - this is the bar with fake animals outside, it looks funny but Gina is the sweetest host and shakes a mean cocktail and milkshake. She even gave us a gift that nearly made the wife cry, she was lovely and we'd love to go visit again

If your looking for a taylor try 'Kings Taylor' its run by Karamat, he is a a kind man who will help you choose a style, material and messure every inch of you so the outfit you want is perfect. I would recommend that if you want cloths made that you take a picture of what you want before you go and so this will save you much time later. there are so many fabrics to choose from so you will be spoilt for choice.

To finish off we made some wonderful friends, Bob and Jen where very helpfull with advice and made us laugh all the time. We also met Mark and Shelia who were staying down the road and again had a great laugh with them and hope to stay in touch and meet up. The great advice we received and will now pass on is 'not to over tip' we made the mistake of tipping 300 baht (which is only £6) but to the Thai they though we were Millionnairs!! stick to about 20 to 30 baht its about right and fair. Most meals in the villiage will cost between 250 baht and 300 baht and that is for a meal, beer and water and you will not be hungry.

I would defiantly go back to the Regent Chalet and Thailand really is the land of smiles. Happy holiday :-)
