Just returned from spending 10 nights at Novotel hua hin. Overall the resort is well appointed but very very tired. The kids loved the pool and the slide. However the pool requires maintenance with extensive tile damaged (broken & chipped tiles resulting in numerous cuts and abrasions). Our children enjoyed the kids zone although the kids club is unsupervised by resort staff and the activities are very expensive. The food as the resort was overall very good with food at the tai restaurant exceptional. The breakfast at the ocean beach club was inconsistent in quality, quantity & presentation. Happy hour at the pool bar was disappointing. At the busiest time of the day near the pool, the bar was only serviced by one staff member who couldn't cope with the demand. Happy hour only lasted until 5 at the pool bar which was the time the pool bar was most heavily attended. The cocktails are not worth wasting money on - all the cocktails tasted the same as the dominant taste was the sugar syrup added to all. We upgraded to a suite which was spacious and clean although the beds were ridiculously hard and quite frankly it was more comfortable to sleep on the floor! As mentioned in ither reviews, this resort is about a 20-30 minute drive into the main town if hua hin. At the time we stayed there were around 100 guests in the hotel. The hotel shuttle runs a limited shuttle and only seats 10 passengers. As a travelling family of 4, it was nearly impossible for us to get on the shuttle as a family- in fact during our 10 day stay we only managed to travel once as a family on the shuttle. A return trip by taxi costs $20 Aust. Finally, as we were staying on a package with the Novotel, the hotel arranged our transfer to and from Bangkok. To say these transfers were terrifying is an understatement! It seemed to us that the Novotel outsourced this component to the cheapest local person they could source. The drivers had limited English making it difficult to communicate with them - not usually an issue but became an issue when travelling recklessly at between 130-140 km in old cars with very young children in the car. After 2 near misses on our return journey, we finally convinced our driver to slow to 100 for the remainder of the trip after indicating that we would like to get out. Having had transfers with the hilton group previously, who use reputable drivers - this aspect of the Novotel is irresponsible and reckless. Overall our holiday was ok but fell way short of our expectations set previously by our annual trips to thailand. We may revisit hua hin again but it doubt that we will stay at another Novotel .
