We had 10 nights here during the end of August/beginning of September. The hotel was very quiet on most days and the restaurants and beach bar were virtually empty. I should also mention we stayed here with our children some 10 years ago so knew something of the layout etc. The beach has now disappeared but options are available to go to others, which we didn't.
This trip had us staying in the Regency Wing and we were glad we did. Pretty much most of the time the two pools in that part were empty. We could read, relax, swim in privacy. It was what we had wanted from the trip following a hectic time in Kuala Lumpur.
Our room overlooked the well maintained gardens and pools and were very clean. The maid service was excellent and they were all very friendly and helpful. We made use of the Fluxo Bar most early afternoons for a fresh young coconut, smoothies and a light lunch. Excellent quality and presentation. We had one evening meal at Sakuna - really good quality and service and a singing duo entertained just the two of us. My wife made good use of the massage area close to the beach - not the spa. Very good value for money.
The reception staff, especially the lovely Somying, ensured our requirements were met, including help with a taxi trip to a local elephant foundation. Very grateful for that help. Had a chance to meet with the General Manager who chatted about the plans for the hotel which sound exciting.
The hotel is close to a small collection of restaurants and shops which have built up over the last 10 years and they provide a cheaper selection of cuisines and worth visiting. We had breakfast and many evening meals here.
One minor issue for us, and really I can understand the hotel's position, is that at the weekends the hotel - Regency Wing was swamped with hundreds of students intent on having a good time. It was temporarily disturbing for us but we accepted it without complaining and were intent on it not spoiling our time. We'll know for next time if we holiday at this time of the year.
