This is a friendly place about 10 minutes walk from the center of Chiang Rai. Our double room had a four poster bed, refrigerator, and good sized bathroom with shower. Everything was clean and comfortable. Nothing was spectacular or memorable, but it was a very good value for the price. The area around the hotel is pleasant and fairly quiet with a lot of trees, and it was nice to be a bit away from the tourist hustle of the town center.

Our room was huge, sitting room with kitchen table, fridge and separate bedroom. The sinks (kitchen and bathroom) are outside, which takes a bit getting used to. The third bed was a boxspring brought in and made up as a bed - really hard. We had other places with a third bed and this was the hardest. The lights were kinda funky, too. Breakfast was very dull, probably the worst we had at any of our hotels across Thailand - eggs to order, toast, little fruit, and salad, not very substantial or tasty. However, the staff were very very helpful and pleasant, the walk to the night market was not bad at all, about 10 minutes. For the price, 900 baht for three people including breakfast, it was the least expensive of where we stayed. But we also stayed one night at the Wang Come Hotel and it was twice the price, really bright and loud and a very small room. The breakfast was the only thing going for that place, and the central location, but we are glad we moved to the Sun and Moon for the great price.

this is a good alternative to the other budget hotels in chiang rai... though not so central... a bit of a walk to night market, but other good cheap food nearby. parking spaces very difficult. nice simple rooms, if a little small, but new and clean. decent cute bathroom. main problem is breakfast ends at 9 am! how ridiculous. what about travellers who want a rest?

We thought the Moon and Sun Hotel was a good choice for us in Chiang Rai. The lobby is beautiful - both old and new. Internet was available but down when we were there.

We had two rooms - the regular room had twin beds, private bathroom (sink outside). The deluxe room had a queen bed and nice bathroom, refrig. I would recommend spending the additional amount for the upgraded room as the bathroom was definitely nicer.

We could walk to the night market and the hilltribe museum from the hotel. We also had lunch at the Hot Pot restaurant. (a couple of blocks away). This was great fun!! While it was not cheap, it was a dining experience, allowing us to try different types of foods.

The breakfast at the Moon and Sun was an excellent buffet (there website picture does not do it justice): eggs made to order, fruit, toast, juices, hot drinks, cereal.

The only minor negative was that our floor had the smell of incense being burned ... so much for a no smoking room.

This place is a cross between a hotel and a guesthouse with a quirky character and strongly recommended by a certain guidebook (Solitary Heavenly Body).
It is a good 15 minute walk from the centre but has a certain charm. I paid 700bht (EUR15.50, USD20 November 2008) for a quiet room with a fourposter bed (no curtains around it, though) cable TV, fridge, bathroom with electric-powered heater shower. The place has 14 rooms and a history as a family house. Cheap, fast Internet connection, lovely staff, perfunctory breakfast, day return laundry.Curious omissions: in my room no bedside light or master switch making midnight pit stops perilous.
To be honest a little down market from where I usually stay but cheap, clean, cheerful and highly recommended to budget travellers.
