Place was super cheap considering it has a swimming pool. Staff were really helpful, they were happy to be woken up a 2.30am to let me do a custom checkout. Yes the rooms are a bit basic, bed sheets look old and can hear people moving upstairs but can't complain for the price. Down a sidestreet so advise always getting a tuk tuk back - about 30B from town.

Reading the reviews, there's really no pleasing some people! This was such a lovely guesthouse, with a nice pool and friendly staff. We paid next to nothing for the rooms and were so surprised at how nice the place is! Yes the rooms aren't very sound proof, but it's hardly party Central so you shouldn't have a problem. Well recommended

I chose this place because it was cheap and rated as "the best deal in northern Thailand" by Lonely Planet, which is far from the truth. It's cheap, so you get what you pay for. It's quaint on the outside and the rooms are very rustic (in a bad way). The biggest problem is that the rooms have ZERO soundproofing. I've stayed in a lot of "loud" places in SE Asia (most hotels lack basic soundproofing), but this was the worst. People above and next to you sound like they're in the same room. Same goes when they use the toilet. Yep.

Staff was accommodating and moved me to a room further away from other people, but there's still loud neighbors next to the hotel with barking dogs. Seriously, it's close to camping as far as sound goes. If you're a light sleeper, like me, not the place for you.

Room Tip: Pay more for the airconditioned rooms. They're probably quieter.

Building is based on a traditional Thai style house. Rooms are a good size and comfortable. Lacked a refrigerator in the room, handy for cold water and the like. Staff were nice and helpful. 10 min walk from city center and walking distance from other city attractions. If someone could get the chickens next door to sleep in a bit would be good too.

First impressions on arrival was a very pretty guesthouse. There was a nice pool to cool off in after a day's exploring. It was only 10 minutes walk into town but it was along a busy road so would either use a taxi or tuk tuk.
Rooms were lovely and the beds were clean and comfortable.

Stayed at Ben GH approx 4 years ago and the management/owner were great but not this time around the new owners are Thai/Chinese and are not as helpful. The garden and surrounds are very nice, the pool is good but when we stayed over a weekend most of the time is was closed due to cleaning why not do this on a week day when it could be a bit quieter. At the time of booking our stay with them they had advertised free transport to the bus station when departing the guest house, this has been removed from the website now because they cannot offer that service without charging. The cable TV has very bad reception and is a waste of time switching it on. I know if I come back for a visit to Chiang Rai a next time I will not be staying there for a third time.

We loved this little gem. It was spotless. The staff were great. It had an okay on site restaurant. There was a nice pool to cool off in after a day's exploring. It was only 10 minutes walk into town.
The beds were clean and comfortable. No problems to get extra pillows and towels.

Room Tip: Highly recommend Ben's. It is value on every level. We would go back if we return to Chiang Rai
