“Beautiful and peaceful”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Chang garden is a wonderful, quiet get away for family's, couples or large groups looking for a relaxing time. The pool is amazing, not huge but just perfect. As you swim to the edge of the pool side and look out to your surroundings it really feels like you are out in the wilderness. Once a week the local kids get to use the pool too which just reflects the kind nature of the owner. The owner i found to be very helpful, full of local knowledge and very easy to get along with. The accomadation itself is very spacious clean and although the buildings are not that far apart the way the trees have been planted makes it feel very private. The staff are very sweet and the surrounding area is beautiful. Town is only 15 min in a car and there is also a tesco near by. I would highly advise a visit to this secret little get away. excellent !!!!! I will be back one day :)

Living in Thailand 15 years - its really great to fin somewhere special - away from the typical tourist trail. This small resort is a real gem - great attentive staff and a real escape from the day to day realities of life.

The pool is well maintained and the food very good and the grounds of the hotel are a lovely garden surrounded by nature - both Thai and 'western'.

Located within easy driving of stunning Doi Tung, Chang Sean (Golden Triangle) and Chaing Rai - if relaxation is what your looking for - you will love this place.

Very very romantic.

Room Tip: They have 3 bed family chalets (sleep 6) and 2 bed chalets (sleep 4).

We stayed here with our 2 sons (ages 5 and 7) for 3 nights. It was so beautiful and peaceful. The staff were so helpful and always around. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. Our bungalow came with a frisbee and a soccer ball for us to use and there was a playground too. The houses are big with bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen. We spent so much time at the pool, it was so big and fun and even had a kiddie pool. It is 30 km from Chiang Rai which was perfect for us. We like the city and went there a couple of times, but most of the fun touristy stuff is very close to the hotel. The King's garden and villa, the hilltribe people village, and the border to Myanmar which was so unique. We would definately stay there again if we went to Chiang Rai.

As a regular visitor to thailand i chose this resort in the first instance, mainly for its location and the fact that it is western ran. it is situated just off the main highway, 3okm from meis sae and 30km from chiang ria, making it the most central position for shopping trips into burma, visits to the golden triangle with boat trips across the mea kon into laos. not forgetting wonderful dois meis sa long with all its chinese influence. There are so many attractions and sights, ask the local people where you can find the sleeping lady, an afternoon visit to the white temple maybe followed up by a meal at the night bizarre, the monkey caves, the elephant park., visit hill tribe villages. the list goes on. The pricing is realistic, lets face it,you get what you pay for, genuinely nice staff who REFUSE!! to take tips, new built chalets cleaned every day. Highly recommended for families on a first visit to thailand. This is real thailand.

I think we just had the wrong idea about this resort.

This resort would be located slightly outside of Chiang Rai when we read their brochure that we find in Chiang Mai, but in realty it's about 50 km from Chiang Rai town, verry isolated and about 4 km from Mae Chan a small village where you can't really find a good restaurant.
So we were forced to go to town every time with our childeren, which liked it the first time but after a couple of times they got annoyed by the long drive to chiang rai city.

We stayed there with our two small children and we felt verry alone, I believe we were the only guests there (our we didn't see the other guest), and there isn't much to do in the area of the resort.

So we went to Chiang rai most of the time.
If you want a taxi you can better arrange this yourself.
The staff doesn't really speaks English, they try, but we asked them to arrange a taxi or something like that to chaing rai and they told us that would be 850 bth for a round trip! which is a lot of money over there, I think they just didn't understand what we meant.
After that we decided not even to bother asking them for trips because we were to scared that would be overpriced and go wrong as well :( .
We ordered food a couple of times, it tasted ok, but the staff just don't understand English and they got it wrong every time, after that we decided to eat outside the resort as much as we could.

I must say that the swimming pool and pool bar are nice, but the playground for children on the other hand isn't.

The accommodation was bigger then a hotel room we normally stay in (but you also pay more) but the rooms were outdated and didn't give a warm and nice holiday feeling.
We didn't like the hard beds but thats just a matter of taste i suppose.

We liked Chiang Rai, so we definitely will go there again.
But there are better guesthouses or hotels to stay at, for a lower price as well.

We are very sorry for your bad experience. Can you please let us know when exactly you visited our park and pass us your email address, something must have gone terribly wrong. If you do, we can send you a discount voucher for your next visit to compensate for your distress.

Furthermore: our resort is located on 30 km from Chiang Rai city center and we offer taxi service for 2 euro's per person to and from the city at night (so 2-way) so that is 1 euro per distance per person. Please let me know if you think this is too much (a tuktuk within town costs more....)?

Our playground has a swing, a see-saw and climbing tools. Also we have a large field on which you can play football, volleyball, etc. I am very sorry to read that you haven't used our facilities to the utmost.

As to the sightseeing, you could have read in our tourbook that there is plenty to do in this area. Being located in the heart of the province Chiang Rai, almost everything is within 30 km reach from the park. I am sorry if you have not taken the opportunity to visit the monkey-cave (15 km), take a stroll in a real hill tribe village (5 km) or go by boat to Laos (30 km) for some taxfree border shopping. Or what about experiencing the bhudda ceremonies at the horse temple in Mae Chan itself. Reading your article it seems you missed out on the best. Next time, please talk to our receptionists, they know what goes around here and can give you those precious tips that make a stay a true holiday.

Kind regards.
Chang Garden Resort.

Once again I had stayed another highly recommended hotel from tripadvisor. My sincere thank to Astrid and staff, for being waited for our arrival till late evening, 10pm, due to we travel 3 hour from chiang Mai plus some delayed for the packed itinery for 4 families.
Thank for being very considerating to have skip the check in procedure and direct us to our bungalow for clean up and can have early rest.
Our 3 rooms bungalow is very clean and cosy, with a living hall and attached kitchen. The cost for a night is merely 1750baht!!
We have small kids aged 2-6, astrid had specially ordered cook to prepare porridge for them, on top of the Hot breakfast was served.Food is tasty! The surrounding landscape of the restaurant is very scenaric with lots of green and can oversee a fish pond!
Do keep up the resort and wish to come back again.
