Much as I always wanted to try out local restaurants in Thailand, venturing into local restaurants with almost zero-Thai language skills has always been a challenge, especially being a non-meat eater. So when my husband and I saw this modest-looking eatery with an English sign saying vegetarian food, we thought we ought to try it.
A number of cooked foods (all vegetarian) in a tray are displayed in a glass show case so all you need to do is to point out to the lady the dishes you want and whether you prefer brown rice or regular white rice to go with it. Two dishes with rice cost 30 baht and three dishes 40 baht. We went to this place three time while we were in Chiang Rai and all the food we tried was very tasty and creative! And very reasonable too. They sometimes use tofu and soy bean protein as meat substitute but veggie-only dishes were good in their own right. On our last visit, a drink stall had been installed at the premises and it looked like they started serving freshly brewed coffee too.
The restaurant is open everyday from 06:30 till 18:30. Take-away is also available. The lady who we think is running the place was a really nice lady and she speaks a little English. It is located on the same road as Baan Chivit Mai (bakery and cafe) and Connect Cafe and you have to walk along the road to the east.
