“great spot”
Reviewed 14 March 2013

i stayed with wim and his family at his cottages for 11 days. it was a great experience and my favorite in all of the six weeks i spent in many guesthouses throughout thailand. wim and his wife dang are very nice and their staff was also very pleasant. i got to know them fairly well over my stay. they are very engaged with their guests and are very accomadating, they let me borrow their computer to go online, offered me rides into town and treated me to lunch a couple times along with some sightseeing. the pricing was very good at 500 baht a night with a fan, hot water, a fridge, tv, and bug free screens, with a beautiful sunrise every morning through my bedroom window and breakfast included(some of the best food i had in thailand came from that kitchen); all that coupled with a beatiful lush property on a hillside to promote great views from your room, and amazing flora all over the place makes this a great place to base your thailand adventure. wim is a very dedicated person who is active in his community, he works with an eco-tourism board to help figure out the problems of the huge influx of tourism in northern thailand and how to address the issues presented with all of the predicted tourism of the near future and how to keep them positive factors for the economy, land and culture as a whole. i would recomend staying here very much. very quite and peaceful. i will be back for sure. great value and location.

Seeing I have recommended Janpha Cottage in my Introduction to CR, I should write a review. I stayed there once: I now live elsewhere. This is a delightful place, but it is not for everyone. It is a very small rustic Thai resort (about 6 cottages) set in a rampant rainforest garden on a steep hill. The treetop restaurant and coffeeshop is open by appointment. The tariff is 500 BAHT for 2 people per night in a double bedroom with ensuite and includes breakfast. The host speaks some English and is a truly delightful human being. He is very knowledgeable about music, arts and crafts and agronomy: a sort of walking encyclopaedia of the region. He and his family are very, very special people: very kind and welcoming. They also do long-stay (6,000 BAHT a month) and will invite you to join them in their karaoke parties if they are having one. It is their very great pleasure to share the delight they take in CR with visitors from all over the world. However, to really enjoy this place you need to be an easy-going, resourceful, adventurous, independent traveller, as this is the real Thailand, and can be somewhat erratic. Some refurbishment is required. Its main drawback is that it is about 5 minutes drive into CR: about 80 BAHT in a taxi. Your hosts, however, will go out of their way to make you welcome and will often drive you to town. There's no pool or aircon, but the rooms have fans. There is a dam, so the resort is not suitable for unsupervised small children.
