“Quiet place with very friendly staff and good food”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

This place is very quiet. There is a small swimming pool to refresh. This GH has a very nice restaurant with excellent food (amazing banana-chocolate egg-pankake, great fruit muesli). The staff is very friendly and can organize scooter and taxi to the bus station.

The place is outside of city center and is therefore very good if you want to escape the crowd of tourist. In the evening some expat living in the neighborhood play guitars.

Room Tip: The rooms near the swimming pool are also close to the restaurant and might be noisy in the morning...

Nice small guesthouse outside the center from Chiang Rai (15-20 minutes walk). Rooms are clean and big (200-300 baths for a double), hot shower, good wifi. And the best : very peaceful terrace and small swimming pool.. I stayed there fore hours, just enjoying the sun and the good coffee and food (thai and western food) from their restaurant!

Room Tip: Price depends mostly on the room size, just ask and have a look!

Chian House is run by the extremely lovely Mon and her husband. We paid 250B for a fan room (it wasn't too hot up this way at least at this time of year, fan was sufficient). The room was large, mosquito screens on all windows, hot water, towels and soap provided. There is also a balcony area in front of the room with table and chairs.

The food was absolutely fantastic, especially from a guesthouse restaurant, we hardly ate anywhere else because of this. Everything from Western to Thai dishes were spot on. Free tea and coffee were provided, and possibly the most impressive part was the complete honesty system employed by the owners. Whenever you wanted a drink from the fridge you just grabbed whatever you wanted and wrote it down in your room book at the counter. Same when you ordered your meals, it was all written down by the guests themselves. Talk about trust!

The bed was a bit hard, but certainly not the worst we've experienced in our travels, and we slept quite well. The location is extremely quiet.

We spent some time by/in the pool which was quite nice (when the sun finally came out!).

They can also organise treks with hilltribe overnight stays etc but we ran out of time so didn't check this out.

Highly recommend this place and don't forget to eat there!

Room Tip: The rooms were much cheaper than the bungalows, and we suspect nicer!

Just read about this guesthouse in a travelbook. We take the gamble and go there. Well .....
first the roomrate: tripple room a/c 300, bungalow (?) tripple with a/c 500.
Double room a/c about 300 but i think without a/c is lower rate.
We took the tripple bungalow (room 20) after we have seen some rooms. The tripple at 300 did not have a tv (and we want to watch some olympics :) ) and the bathroom was half open and connected with the room. Not that nice with three people :(
We got a wooden bungalow (it was more a upgraded wooden barn) with 1 kingsize bed and 1 single bed. Good mattrasses. apr. 5x5 meter. Little hall with sink 1,5x1,5 meter and a big bathroom with toilet and hot shower. The bathroom window has a mosquito screem but no glass so everyone could look in there. Just put a towel in front of the window.
The room had a/c but no remote so it worked but i think at 24 degrees or something and blowing real hard. But it was ok (we used a blanked at night ). Also a fan in the room. Some furniture in the room (table, chair, closet) and a tv (bbc, australian and thai channels).
Dont expect anything fancy. It is simple and just ok for the price. The windows have mosquito screens but not all the windows have iron safety bars. We had a good night sleep here. No streetsound or what so ever.
The guesthouse have a pool (i also upload some photo's). It;s small (about 10 x 4 meters and 1,40 to 2 meters deep. But it was real nice after a day walking, biking in Chiang rai. It was clean water. Nothing in the water (and there are a lot of trees surrounding it ). It is a BIG plus.
The place have free wifi. There are also 2 computers whitch you can use at a rate of 20 TB an hour. There is a restaurant with open kitchen. We only ate breakfast, pad thai and schnitzel with french fries and that was ok. Lot of softdrinks and beers against a good price (large chiang 55 TB). If you want some coffee you can make it yourself. If you want a softdrink or a beer you can take it yourself. Just write everythink in a little book of your own room and pay when you leave. (and DO it, dont spoil it for others !) Friendly staff, willing to help you.
Towels, soap and toiletpapaper are provided.
We rented motorbikes here but -----> the motorbikes (gear 150tb and automatic 250 tb) came with 1 liter of petrol. We had to fill the tank. HAHAHAHA no way. So we cancel it on the spot and rented some motor bikes in chiang rai. At a great place for 180 each. there website is www.northwheels.com Realy friendly and helpfull people there. Good service. About 15 minutes walk from the guesthouse or 3 minutes by tuktuk.
The guesthouse is just a little bit far from the city centre (15 minutes walk)
I just gave 3 stars (would give 3 1/2 because of the pool). I think there are better places but this was not bad at all. Would come here again.
