“very convenient hotel with no charm”
Reviewed 9 November 2012

ok this hotel may lack charm as it is a huge ugly building but it is an excellent place to stay. It is located right on the river, with magnificent view from the room (actually we arrived there by long tail boat directly to the small pier of the hotel, which was very nice). The pool is huge.
The rooms also are huge and very well equipped, and the bathroom is very convenient and big with both a bathtub and shower.
The staff is very friendly, but not very efficient. we had a small problem with the dinner as my friend and i both asked for fish and received instead 2 pork steaks that we didn't eat. They didn't even bother to apologize or change them. But it was OK as the menu was quite solid and we weren't hungry anymore.
The breakfast buffet is very good.
Ah one more thing: there was a big reception at night in the gardens by the pool and river, it started at 6:00 PM and ended up after midnight. There was a lot of loud music and people speaking on mics, so it was quite bothering while we were having dinner near them, and even after that in our room we had difficulties to fall asleep because of the noise though we were in a very elevated floor supposedly quite far from the place itself.
As an overall a very good hotel to stay in

Room Tip: make sure to take a room in the upper floors with view on the river

Stayed here for 5 days, loved the spaciousness...it must have been quite a grand dame on the hotel scene in Chiangrai when it first opened it's doors. Today it still breathes the incredible Thai hospitability, friendliness, attention to detail and good service. It was a pleasure to stay there. However, it does need some fresh air, particularly in terms of the rooms furnitures and fixings. You won't find hip or trendy hotel design, but you will find good old-style class and friendliness, a well-oiled management service, and space! The view from the pool onto the Kok river and hills in the background are a great plus as well.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room on the higher floors which looks onto the pool...which means you get to see t...

Stayed here about twelve years and it was great. It's still very good, the lobby and pool are impressive, big! The staff are friendly and efficient. It's on the way to the room from the lift, and in the room that I saw the difference. It's clean, no problem there, it needs a bit of an uplift, it's tired and feels neglected, it's a whole lot of little things, niggles really. To give an example, the locking catch on the bathroom didn't work. That said it was an enjoyable stay and I can see no reason not to recommend it. No longer five star more three and a half to four.

At one time, this resort must have been spectacular. It needs some rehab work but was overall relaxing and enjoyable. I took their Thai cooking class: morning market, breakfast, vegetable carving lesson. We made three traditional Thai dishes and them I ate them. Price included the Dusit's cookbook.

Room Tip: Pass on the American breakfast items - the Asian ones are way better.

We stayed for 2 nights, 2 adults + 3 children. since we were traveling, we didn't stay at the hotel during the days.
The service was just OK, as everything else.
Bathrooms are old and there is smell of dust & cigarets in the halls.

Where amazed by the size of the grounds and lobby on arrival. Our thought was, Will this resort be to good for us. Our stay here was fantasic. I,m not going to repeat everything that has already been said. The food and serviveat all the restaurants is of a high standard. Ask at your travel agent for stay 3 nights pay for 2 with breakfast deals.

The resort is on a island with the Mae Kok river passing each side of the resort. At low river hight the river passes only on 1 side of the resort, So if you want the best veiw of the river from your room, Standing pool side looking towards the hotel( see photos on the net), Ask for a room on the left side. We where on the 3 floor. The rooms are Thai 5 star, Very happy. Everyone knows that all hotels prices are going to be more expensive. So expect it, Go in to town if you want cheap.

It is a bit of a walk just to get to the gate so ask for a ride on the golf type car and then walk in to town or there is a shuttle bus provided at 30bt that takes you in to Chiang Rai and when your ready to return a Tuk Tuk back to your hotel, 100 bt don't pay any more. We didn't see it as a problem with the resort being a1/2 walk in to town the position of the resort is in abeautiful spot. You can organize a long boat to take you down the Mae Kok river to an Elephant camp and Karin villiage( Not the Long Necks)from the hotel pier. A travel agent at the resort will try and get you to do it as a tour with guide,1200bt each No need to pay extra for a guide, I asked just to have a long boat and driver for 800bt to take the 4 of us there to the Elephant camp and village. We will stay here again when in Chiang Rai, Just wonderful

Room Tip: Main river side of the hotel, In dry season the river will have not water to view.

This big hotel was build in the traditionell asian luxury style fom decades ago. Similar to big and older 5 star hotels in Colombo, Jakarta and Bangkok. Hugh Lobby with Piano Player etc. and hugh gardens. Carpets in Gangways and rooms. Very big swimming Pool.

We booked 2 rooms (Superior) for 2 nights with a price of 2600,- THB per room and night without breakfast. Very good value for money.

We (family of 4) arrived there by our own car. Free (big parking grounds) and safe parking.
Easy and fast check in. Staff friendly and professionell.

Fast Elevators always available without waiting.

Rooms spacious (with small sitting area) and clean with an old asian 5 star charme. Good and clean bathrooms. Comfortable beds. All in all very good.

Free Wifi available in the Room with a good internet connection (for Thai Standards).

Cons :
Eveything from Food and Drinks to Massages (Restaurants, Room Service, Minibar and Spa) is very expensive in this hotel. For example a can of beer (Singha) from the Minibar was 180,- Baht !!!). I never understand why this kind of hotels can not offer reasonable prices and hence make a good business on food and beverage and have on top very satisfied customers.

If you don`t have your own car you certainly in need for a Taxi or Tuk Tuk Service if you want to visit the Night Market etc. The hotel is at the edge of Chiang Rai. I didn`t see any of those Taxi services nearby.

The Swimming Pool is great and very big. Perfect to relax with a Jacuzzi area. Also great for families. Easy pool towel service. Beautiful view directly onto the River.

All in all a very pleasant stay and this hotel will be my first choice again (if the prices will remain) for my next visit in Chiang Rai.

Room Tip: Book the cheapest room type. All rooms are very spacious and good.
