I ordered the hotel with mixed emotions because of some of the reviews warning about it being dated . When we arrived the we were so pleasantly surprised! It is a beautiful hotel, with great service , ambiance, pool, views, and breakfast!
True- it is not brand new and the rooms are not the most modern, but it is really a great hotel well worth staying at, and do not fear the reviews about "dated", it sounds frightening but it should not be. We even decided to check out later than we planned in order to enjoy the hotel just a bit more.
We stayed at deluxe rooms.

We usually stay Dusit Thani in Bangkok and always pleased with the quality of service. We were expecting somewhat similar quality in there.
Pick up service was smooth. Check in was ok. Had a little problem with the price but luckily, our receptionist was very good in English. Sounds like a winner, right? NO!
Room was the corner of the building, right next to the huge air conditioner outdoor unit and Chimney from the kitchen. Noise? Smell? You name it.
Room itself was spacey with not so beautiful carpet and furniture. It basically way outdated. Very depressing.

Now, at the breakfast. Group of Chinese are making lots of noises and fuss. We can't say it was a cozy atmosphere. Coffee was boiled down, tea had no taste. Further more, We could see that the waiters and waitresses were tired of dealing with demanding group tourists but neglecting their job to attend other guests aren't acceptable.

And next, Restaurants.
Nothing to report about. Main dining was very average but pretty expensive. Definitely not worth a money. Chinese restaurant we wanted to try but the Maitre D' had a major attitude problem. She didn't seem like to know how to greet the guests. My "hello" was royally ignored.

Room service.
Seem like only a couple of people speaks English. Friendliness? Forget it. Food?? well....

All and all, we can't say we were satisfied with the hotel. Quite opposite to be honest.
Do we come back to the place? NO!

Nice place, nice accomodation and nice breakfast.

It's a bit outside the city center but this is a plus! They've a bus service that runs every hour (seems only in the afternoon)

Only downside, all prices are w/o service and vat, so expect a +17% on the bill :-))))

Really friendly staff! They managed to arrange a footmassage for us @10.30pm in 5 mins!

We stayed at the Dusit Island Chiang Rai for 2 nights during our 3 day tour in the area.
Our party included 2 adults + 2 kids (10 & 4).
Location is not the best, as the hotel is far from Chiang Rai city center. There is not too much to do in the city anyway, so I guess location is not such a huge factor.
If you do decide to go in the evening to the "night market" make sure you call for a local taxi. The hotel provided shuttle service, but they charge over 600 THB per person for one way trip!!
You can get a taxi for 4 person for 150-200 THB..
The lobby is outstanding. Very clean and comfortable. Check inn was fast & efficient. Free WI-FI is provided by the hotel, however WI-FI connectivity is not the best, but it's the same problem all over Thailand hotels..
The rooms are OK. Very clean, but a bit dated. You will find in the room everything you need, including TV (old), climate control, coffee/tea, hair dryer, safe and a small fridge.
We had a room with 2 twin beds, and it big enough to accommodate the 4 of us. Beds are not the softest, but we've been on harder ones in Thailand.. our friends did get the king bed room and it looks very nice and comfortable.
Pool area is awesome. The pool is big and the kids really enjoyed it in the evenings.
Breakfast was perfect, with huge variety to choose from. You can make your own omelets, enjoy hot & cold Thai dishes, make toasts, cereal, fruits and much more.
We even tried once the buffet dinner at restaurant at the hotel, but it was overpriced and it's better to go and eat outside..
The view from the hotel is remarkable as the hotel is located next to the river.

First the good. The public rooms are well appointed though if you look carefully they're a little old. It has lots of gardens and a pool.
The bad. This place is badly in need of renovation. The bedrooms are extremely old, the carpets are worn out, the A/C wheezes and groans, the bedrooms and floors all smell.
Perhaps the worst aspect of this hotel is the staff. They don't seem to understand customer service. Arriving one afternoon in our hire-car, we were immediately told to move it to the public car park, whilst the high society Thai's in their shiny new Mercedes were allowed to park it outside reception. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior. In summary, for group bookings and old Bangkok dinosaur elite, this is the place. For anyone else, you can do much, much better.
