Description: We bake bread, cakes and food in a Scandinavian/Thai way. Our bakery is located near the central bus station in the middle of Chiang Rai. Here you will find breads and cakes baked the Scandinavian way. The bakery is frequented by both locals and foreign visitors. Today, there is also the opportunity to eat delicious Thai and western food in a warm and peaceful environment. In the late 1990s we began baking cinnamon buns to sell on the main road. This turned out to be a pretty good business idea. Dreams of a café located in the city began to take shape. In 2001 two of our oldest girls were given the opportunity to be trained as pastry chefs at Peder Printer Patisserie School in Varberg, Sweden. In 2002 we found a location in the heart of ChiangRai where we began offering Swedish coffee. By 2005 the business had expanded to include food service. BaanChivitMai Bakery has a permanent staff of cooks, bakers and servers. During weekends and school breaks, the older children at BCM have the opportunity to work there where they receive on-the-job training as well as the ability to earn some pocket money. BCM Bakery also serves as a vital source of information about BaanChivitMai Foundation. Customers who visit the café can read about and look at pictures of BCM's various activities. All profits from the bakery go back to the Foundation to save children from vulnerable situations and give them a better future. The café’s offerings of cinnamon buns, marzipan pastries, chocolate balls and cakes in the Scandinavian style have become quite popular in Chiang Rai. More recently BCM Bakery has begun offering some very tasty Thai food while continuing to serve more traditional items like Swedish meatballs with lingonberries and other western dishes.

I am not sure why so many travelers rave about this place. I have eaten breakfast here and checked my email a few times while waiting for a bus, but on any other day I would just pass it right by and go to a Thai shophouse restaurant or noodle shop. The service is friendly and the food is edible but if it wasn't for the bus station I really don't think it would get much business.

This is a small coffee shop that offers light fare. We found the food quality good, the staff spoke reasonable english and the prices are agreeable. A great alternative to $35 hotel buffets for breakfast.

Baan Chivit Mai has an excellent location and a comfy atmosphere going for them. Very casual and cozy feel and right in the middle of tourist area across from the bus station. I live in Chiang Rai and I will occasionally stop by and get something while waiting to get on the bus or right after getting off. The food and desserts are alright, but nothing too impressive. What I do normally go in for is the bread. They make some really good loaves of whole wheat bread. I way prefer Baan Chivit Mai bread to what you buy at the convince or grocery stores.

Nice little cafe just behind the main market street. Great coffee and a good selection of pastries. Not a spot for a full dinner but a coffee and a snack.
