“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2013

A winding and scenic road leads up to a taxing stone staircase to the Wat. Spectacular views from the Wat over the countryside add to the visit. The Wat itself is beautiful, well maintained and used for prayer/meditation by most visitors.

“Like life sometimes the journey is better than the destination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2012

The road to Doi Tung is great once you get off the fast road. Passing many nurseries as you climb up the hill to the base temple location. At this point you have a choice to walk 1km or take a motorcycle as the road has fallen away and they are still repairing it. My advice, walk, it is not a hard walk and if you don't you will miss the climbing of the steps and the clanging of the bells as you approach the temple at the top. Once thre there re a few things to look at but nothing to rave about. But that's okay because getting there was great and going back just as fun.

“Journey better than Destination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2012

Currently the the last 1km of the road is under reconstruction (being washed out) meaning a 50 Baht m/c taxi trip (or walk) along a precipitous track with a 30m sheer drop - not for the faint hearted. Expect the road to be finished Q2 2013.

The temple itself is attractive - although nothing like Chaing Mai's Wat Prathet Doi Suthep. If you visit the Royal Villa and gardens at Doi Tung and have some extra time (1 hour++) then the journey to the temple is worth it. It would be more worth it if there were some vistas over the valleys but the woodland surrounding the temple blocks the views. Good views are to be had along the road to the temple.

Best on this temple is the acces route, which is very scenic and full of great views. The surrounding jungle is also beautiful.
