We had GPS location of this place and knew we were supposed to get to a boat station. However, our navigation system made us drive to the resort of which the last 3 km very rural road. We actually weren't even sure where where so when we asked and someone pointed us the entry of the resort and we came there we all were excited. Wow, what a nice place.

It was getting dark already and we could check in real quick. No formalities. Kids could go swimming rigt away. We got the menu to let the staff know what we wanted to eat for dinner and at what time so they would have it ready for us.

We had cottage number V8, a very new one with 2 separate rooms, ideal for families. The only minor thing is that most of the staff doesn't understand English at all. Other than that, we liked this place a huge lot.

I got rave about this piece of paradise for days. To keep it short & sweet - simply idyllic! You arrive by long boat to an oasis by the fast flowing river. the location alone is enough, then theres the pool, A1! the food is great, children from the local village sing for you at night - dig deep for tips - it all goes to their school. Not the norm for me, but will definitely try very hard to get back there!!

Huai Khum is located on the Mae Kok River in Northern Thailand. We arrived by boat after a 2 hour trip from Chiang Rai and stayed in one of the cottages near the restaurant. It was lovely with large windows lining opposite walls for cross-ventilation. The front porch with a bamboo sofa to relax on while looking out on the beautiful scenery was great. Inside, a front sitting area opened on to a lovely large bedroom containing two queen-sized beds with mosquito netting and white spreads. There were ceiling fans in all rooms to keep the air moving. A large bathroom with nice soft towels completed the cottage.
Now a word regarding some travelers' comments about air-conditioning and bugs: This is a jungle resort. If you want air conditioning, perhaps you should stay at a Holiday Inn or in some other generic lodging. Personally, we did not encounter any bugs, but there were a few geckos scampering about on the walls. Guess what! They're part of what made this resort interesting and fun!
The food was made-to-order Northern Thai dishes which were yummy, generous, and well-priced. After dinner we were entertained with songs and dance by the local children of the hill village behind the resort. My friend also swam in the pool, which was refreshing at this time of year, while I relaxed on our porch with a book.
Our host, Charlie, was a very accommodating, and gracious man, who is conversant in English, Thai, and Mandarin. Lovely views, comfortable, clean, and attractive cottages, great food, and a gracious host, what more could you ask?

Room Tip: For the best views, choose the upper level cottages and for convenience to the restaurant and pool...

The setting of this resort could not be lovelier. Arrived and departed by boat. Kayaked down the river. The accomodations reminded me of boy scout camp. Food was average. Egads----instant coffee. Our guide arranged for a group of children from the nearby village to sing to us by candle light which was magical. We also toured the nearby village. The people were lovely and I give the resort marks for providing an extra source of income. With a little more attention to detail this place could be wonderful.

Most travelers arrive by boat, which is easily and dependably arranged by using the email contact on the resort website. You can arrange to stop for an elephant ride en route, which nicely breaks up the 2-hour ride from the Rimkok in Chiang Rai. The road trip is shorter, but difficult, and we enjoyed returning that way for the spectacular scenery. The hospitality is part of the enjoyment. The views of the rolling hills from the resort are so beautiful. Authentic Thai dishes are prepared on site, all delicious, well priced and good portions. A wat (Buddhist temple) being constructed across the river caught our interest, so the owner's son took us across in a kayak and the owner cheerfully brought us back using his long-tail boat after the climb.. The rooms have a simple elegance, very clean with a big bathroom and good mattresses.

Room Tip: The bungalows on the upper level are worth the climb for the sake of the view.

I have long dreamt of visiting a jungle paradise, and what it might be like. Now I know. It is called Huai Khum Resort, and located in the beautiful jungle mountains of Northern Thailand. The only thing that surpasses the lush surrounding vistas and intricately finished aminities is the exuberant, impeccable service. Charlie and Grace have a gift of hospitality that is absolutely delightful. If you are ready for a visit to paradise, it's time to book your stay at Huai Khum. Just make sure there are vacancies on the tail end, because you may decide you aren't ready to leave. My soul has been refreshed, and my inner photographer has been thrilled and satisfied. And while I hate to leave this morning, I am excited about the elephant ride that awaits my family and me just minutes down river.
