The ruins of the old city are remarkable and fascinating. The walk along the Mekong river front is wonderful, with terrific views up and down the river and across to Laos. A very nice riverside twon and essential viewing for those who like the lost city feel of Ayyuthia or Bagan - even if it not on the scale of either of them.

It's a very traditional rundown open air temple. But there is a monk whom you can pay him for blessing.

I love this, the oldest town in Thailand. It sits beautifully on the banks of the Mekong River.
Quiet and peaceful, this settlement boasts a lot of impressive monuments. There is an octagonal chedi, dating back to the time America was discovered by Colombus, and a museum with stone carvings relating toHill -tribe culture.
The best 'ruins' lies to the west of the city walls of the town, which consists of seven ruined structures set among teak trees. There are carvings of flowers and mythological beasts.
But for stunning views of the river and the Golden Triangle region,go up to the hilltop to see the temple with the white pagoda.. Stunning.
