Laluna is a good looking hotel but once inside, it's not as good. Firstly, they charge twice the price for farangs as they do charge Thais! The rooms are nice but the pillows are extremely hard. There was a strange smell in our room and also the towels smelled a bit.
Breakfast is only (or just about) western food, which is a shame, and the staff is not interested. It does not display the level of hospitality Thailand is renowned for.

Laluna
The towels for the pool smelled vaguely of vomit
The pool lounges are impossible to lie in and read a book, backs v low, they were old
The spa area had a hole under the water at the side, hubby felt his foot sucked in.
There was a large worm in the spa which was never on (word of mouth as to how to turn on)
No DVD player, I requested one but they do not have shd be standard for expensive hotel
The food in the restaurant was good and generous but expensive 250 not 70 as in hotel in CM
there were no outide seats and table
Cottage clean but only wardrobe and 2 drawers for clothes
Tours at hotel v expensive $110 for full day staff had very limited English
Safe cost 50tbt - do not have one in room
The gardens were beautiful - work of art
Cottages were cute all single story and comfortable. Lovely bathroom. Shower was cheap, old hose and little shower head - tacky
Bathroom has no power point, bedroom no mirror, so blow dry hair & shave blind
Tours expensive and usually staff there had v little English
Breakfast lovely buffet, good choices but no creamer or mueslis
Fried eggs were congealed, asked for fresh, her English wasn't too bad but suddenly could not speak English
Used plates were left on our table (tip, place on table next to you - they suddenly get whisked away!)
We paid half price $80 for poolside view cottage, this was Agodas half price. I do not think this hotel is worth $160/night for the best room
Staff were friendly and helpful

Room Tip: We had a poolside room, just a few steps to the pool.

The rooms are set off paths lined with lush plants & exotic flowers - all very pretty, as is the big pool area. The rooms are comfortable, but a bit dark & old fashioned. The fridge had nothing in it except plastic plates & cutlery! The breakfast was pretty good & when they finish the new restaurant, I'm sure that dining there will be more pleasant. We had one meal in the bar, which they are using as the restaurant, but it was far more expensive than in town & was empty. The main drawback to the Laluna is that it is quite far from the centre, 25min walk or THB50 for tuk tuk, & there is nowhere nice to eat or drink locally. Sleep quality is bad if you have noisy neighbours as you can hear everything & there were also a lot of cat fights!

Two nights in Chiang Rai in orchids around. Nice room in a bungalow, good breakfast. Shortest road to the city center, just cheaper on a tuk-tuk taxi. Quiet place - very recommended. One drawback - lack of knowledge of foreign languages

Stayed for two nights on north Thailand tour . Gardens and rooms around pool are quiet and excellent size and well equipped bathroom. Staff particularly on reception have little concept of service and the hotel is 20 mins from town so need to use tut tut . only a couple of restaurants nearby so location not excellent but a peaceful spot at the end of the day . Breakfast was poor ( worst of our trip)

Room Tip: around the pool but you will pay extra

So lovely to be able to swim under jungle foliage & walk to reception past carpets of orchids. Chalet type rooms with all the usual furniture. Rather a boring dining room with basic type food. A short tuk tuk ride to the night market.

Room Tip: I thought all rooms had equal merit, no need to pay extra for a pool view.
