The Mantrini Boutique Resort

This hotel was booked for us so we had no idea what it would be like. What a sigh of relief when we found it to be a clean, friendly hotel.

It was bizarrely quiet, guest wise, so the atmosphere was rather odd. Nonetheless, the rooms were clean and modern and the bathrooms well stocked. The staff at the front desk were fabulously helpful, though in the breakfast restaurant the following morning the staff there were somewhat lacking in both their English and their service. Breakfast itself was good with a good range of items available. No herbal/green teas though.

All that said, it was great for our last night before heading to the airport (an easy 15minute Bach rode away) and worked as a good base for getting into chiang rai for the evening (50 baht in a tuk tuk).

We chose this accommodation because it was difficult to find interconnecting or family rooms in Chiang Rai. We travel with 3 kids (5,6,9) the location out of the town centre was good , across the road is a big C supermarket super centre with a food court and 3 min walk is central plaza a large mall with excellent food stalls.
The hotel itself has potential but seemed dead when we were there. Hardly a soul staying! The pool area was nice. Skeleton staff and no real welcome. We were asked to pay the full cost of the four nights up front...perhaps they have had people leave. Good accommodation Average service.
Breakfast was extensive but average.

For more of a boutique or homely feel in Chiang Rai this is not the place.

Room Tip: Upper floor will have more light.

I have been stay at Mantrini Boutique Resort for 02 nights on 28 - 30 DEC 12. Overall is good positive. May I recap as follow;

Pro+
1. Location - hotel located in the city centre with 10 mins and THB 100 by Tuk Tuk to Night Bazaar or walking Street. 05 mins walk to Central Chiangrai Shopping Center.

2.Room - Very good size with 4 star amenities that you need. Room is bright & clean. Deluxe come with nice pool view with balcony on 2nd floor, walking access to pool on 1st floor. Superior Room is no view

3. Breakfast - Enough choice for 04 star hotels, a special plus for Thai Selections

4. Friday Night - they have handicraft market with some music available every friday with very chill, cozy and relax :)

Cons -

1. Swimming Pool - is too small

2. Service - No coffee serve at table, you have to get from station and very slow to collect dirty plate.

Overall, this is a good 4 star boutique hotel if you have a chance to stay at CHiangrai

This is an artsy hotel and we loved it. The staff are super friendly and the decoration is superb, very pretty, We haven't tried the restuarant but we love the hotel, it's handy for the Central shopping mall although you need a taxi to get into town. Rooms are lovely too.

Room Tip: quieter at the back

Our family with 3 young children of aged 5,7 & 9 stayed in the hotel for 3 days 2 nights.

Booking: We made reservation through the hotel website for 2 superior twin rooms (adjoining) for 2 nights with breakfast for 1900 ++ baht per room, per night.

Check-in: Staff was friendly at reception but were not very fluent in English. We were given 2 rooms side by side but not adjoining. We refused to take it as we have stated clearly that the rooms MUST be adjoining because of our young children. At first they said that they were fully booked and could not change, we stood on our grounds & after about 5 minutes, we were given adjoining rooms. We made full payment upon check-in.

Rooms: The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. TV with lots of channels in Thai language and some in English, Japanese, Chinese & French. There was a small fridge too. Air-conditioner worked well for first night but on the second night, one of the air-con was not cold. The toilet was clean but the shower area with the pebbled flooring had some mold. One of the toilet flush did not work well too. The flush was placed at a ridiculous position and our kids could not operate it.

Other facilities: There was a small pool but we did not use it. Kids love hanging out at the courtyard with a swing and we sat at a small pavilion watching them. The hotel lounge was big and comfortable too. Wi-fi worked well but we had to logged on several times depending on the signals. They turned off their wi-fi in the middle of the night. Lots of mosquitoes in the outdoor area at night.

Breakfast: Toast, pastries, juices, tea, coffee, milk & cereals, rice & dishes, porridge, egg counter, salads and fruits. The spread was good enough for my kids and us. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. It was a great way to start our day with cheerful staff around.

Location: It is 5 mins walk from the Big-C (a local supercentre across the road) and Central plaza (up-market shops to the left of the hotel). Both places have food courts selling local delicacies and each had a halal food stall. There was no free shuttle service to the Night Market (near the old bus terminal) during our stay there. Tuk-tuk cost us 60 baht for the whole family per trip. The Night Market was about 10 min drive away, the hotel staff said that it will take about 1/2 hour walk to reach there. I'm not sure why other reviewer said that it's near, maybe they know of a short-cut to get there. To our surprised, meter taxi was cheaper. The hotel called a meter-taxi for us when we were leaving for Chiang Mai. It cost us only 34 baht for the whole family and 3 big luggage to reach the old bus terminal!

Check out was hassle free. Room was cleaned and mopped everyday. We wouldn't mind staying there again.

Room Tip: No good view from our room but it was cheaper than those that face the pool and garden.

the hotel staff are helpful and friendly. Hotel is very new and clean .The location is good , which is next to a shopping mall and about 5 miniute to night maket and old town. The hotel offer breakfast both Thai and American style. The room is clean, the bathroom is a bit weired , which a shower is not adjustable and the floor is decorate with the rocks that purpose to protect you to fall down but it hard to stand. And there is no toobrush and toothpaste only shampoo and soft provide (nice) . I and friends stayed there and I will come back again for my next visit.

Good points:
Location is near Central Plaza and not far from the Clock Tower roundabout in the centre of town.
It is all tiled floors (so no dust) and is clean.
Staff are friendly.
Baby cots available.

Bad Points:
No air-conditioning in any of the main areas. i.e. Lobby, hallways, etc.
The pool is very small and shaded.
Breakfast was not very good, at all.

Overall not very good value for money.
