“Relaxhotel”

Really a good hotel for a relaxing holiday but a bit far from the city center. They do haven a shuttle service, but it only runs at 6 or 8 in the evening (5 minute drive). We stayed in villa 157 which was at a quiet place. Beautiful villa with a small private pool (3 x 4 and a little cold). There is no beautifull beach, but that was no problem considering the wonderfull pool they have. The staff in the hotel are very kind, but I was stunned about the fact that there were only a few who could really understand English. Nevertheless a beautifull and clean place o stay for a relaxholiday. Thank you Asara!

We spent a few days at the Asara over New Year. The rooms are something special - spacious and spotlessly clean with indoor and outdoor showers and a huge balcony. The rooms are kitted out with everything you need (TV, DVD payer etc with DVDs available to loan from the hotel) and the two hotel pools are spacious. However, we found the food a little pedestrian and expensive (once you've added the surcharges for services and tax) and the wine outrageously expensive, although wine was generally very expensive in Thailand. The hotel is a 10 min taxi ride north of the centre of Hua Hin and the hotel offers free minibus trips into town at two times in the evening (returning at two times later in the evening) but nothing during the day. Again, any taxis etc ordered through the hotel are expensive.

My husband and I spent the Christmas / New Year holiday in a beautiful Asara Villa and we could not have chosen better for the peaceful relaxation we were seeking. One of the comments we read prior to our visit was that other resorts in the region offer more dining choices and we quickly discovered why. By comparison with Asara some of them are enormous, and in any case Asara offered us all the choice of quality meals (Asian and European) we could have hoped for. And a complimentary afternoon tea. The resort was full when we were there but it never felt "busy". Our villa had its own pool, but we often swam laps in the main pool and never felt crowded.

Returned few hours back from a relaxing vacation at Asara in Hua Hin. All my vacations in last few years have been planned with reviews and advice from TripAdvisor. Thought it is high time to start giving back...

What is good:
First is the location. Proximity to Bangkok ensures no air travel required and a perfect combination of hectic shopping in Bangkok and then complete tranquality.

Stayed in One bedroom pool villa with my wife and teenage daughter. Being lazy vacationers this was perfect for us...no sightseeing, no shopping, just lazing, drinking, eating and watching movies! The resort is just 2 years old and I have not seen anything greener. There are water bodies all over the resort. The pools are fantastic. I used spa for 3 massages and all were excellent and professional. My wife used for 3 beauty treatments which were sincerely done but average.

The New Year eve (compulsory and very expensive) Gala Dinner was good. The live band was fantastic though half of their numbers were not the popular ones. There was also too much of Thai traditional music and dance that evening. A dash of modern dancing or a mimic or a quick magic show would have added variety.

The rain shower in the open (but complete privacy of the villa) is great. It can be sensuous and calming at the same time depending on what you are up to!

Free DVDs and books for borrowing are a great gesture. Cocktails and drinks are fantastic. Sunrises are beautiful if you can wake up at 6.30am (which being a photographer I did)! Breakfast spread is decent and you will not feel the need for lunch. The rooms are excellent, neat and comfortable. Bathroom is huge and lovely.

The staff is always smiling and very courteous. Special thanks to the hotel GM, Ben, who is absolutely hands on and is there everywhere to help and facilitate.

What was not so good:
The most frustrating thing was English speaking skills of the staff. After sometime it became a pain. I had to plan and prepare myself for 10 minutes when ever I had to tell the server that I wanted two Margaritas on the rocks and not frozen, with one sour and the other sweet. Dishes minus certain ingredients plus some new ones were always misunderstood. After few days one just gave up and accepted what ever was offered. This will be one reason why we may not go back.

The menu choice was also very limited and very tough on vegetarians.

The hotel beach is a thin strip overcrowded with beach chairs next to the pool. It is artificial with sand strewn on hotel property itself. For real beach one has to climb done few stairs which are flooded during high tide. Nothing compared to Mauritius. No water sports except kayaking on request.

The mosquitoes are a nuisance at times. Keep insect repellent spray handy.

The private pool in pool villa is normally too cold to go in. We preferred the main pool. But it was soothing to have the view of a private pool right next to the bedroom. If you are thinking of skinny dipping in your private pool please banish the thought as it is not completely private from the public view.

The hotel shop is just namesake. They are missing a big opportunity and husbands are saving a lot of money!

Final recommendation:
Excellent vacation combo with 2-3 days in Bangkok and 4-5 days in Hua Hin. The resort is worth at least one stay but do ensure it is a pool villa. Avoid staying in villas numbered 140-163 which are right next to the boundary wall where there is a tall apartment building.

  • Liked — Greenery, Pool villa, Spa, Pool, Cocktails, no distractions, open rain shower in room
  • Disliked — English speaking skills of the staff, food choice, mosquitoes, hotel shop

This villa resort in Hua hin is about 2 hours by car from Bangkok city center, close to Hua Hin airport and by the beach.

We stayed at one of the pool villas and it was private and secluded. the outdoor rain-shower at the back of the villa amongst tropical plants is a rare experience.
Apart from swimming and sunbathing, movie DVDs can be borrowed from the hotel library to be watched on the DVD machines provided in the rooms. There is also plenty of golf nearby. The quality and choice of food is good in the 3 restaurants at the resort.

It's is nice place to relax in nature for a few days away from the busy and polluted environment in Bangkok.
