“Very good service”
Reviewed 26 August 2011

We did a three night weekend at the Intercontinental and it was quite a pleasant stay.Whilst booking the hotel I was offered the Ambassadors club for $200 extra. As I wanted a 4pm checkout and the suite rate was $400 per nite I thought well that will be $200 well spent as most hotels want half the room rate for a late checkout, they also promised a fruit basket ,2 bottles of mineral water, a guaranteed room upgrade.Well on arrival I got nothing, so down to reception I give the check in gentleman my new fangled Ambassador number and asked for a late check out, he said sorry sir your room is booked for that afternoon but you can have till 12.30.Now one thing I hate is being lied to, so I used the hotel supplied apple laptop and got on to the raft of booking sites and lo and behold three of my suites available and at least three for my supposed upgrade up to suite. So I complained to our floor's personal butler that I was very disappointed and what was the name of the General Manager.Well the lady running reception was most appologetic,Yes I could have the 4pm check out now, next time I come and stay I will get a double upgrade and we are very very sorry, well thats better(just). To Rub salt into my wounds they have a little sign on the bedside table saying join the ambassadors club,"Guaranteed room upgrade ,fruitbasket, 2bottles mineral water, late checkout.Oh well 1 out of four aint bad I guess.
The hotel is set on a very narrow block between two large Condo towers that are mostly empty all weekend. One row of suites are about 7 metres from the four lane highway, however you close the door and you cant hear any traffic noise but you can hear the airconditioner because even on low it is a loud whistler, maybe because the room is sealed up good, not sure but it sure was noisy.
Pool area is great, nice smiley staff and bottled water ,make your bed for you and bring little fruit snacks.
Restaurants are very good, exceptional staff and BBQ nigh t(saturday) was fabulous, they just kept bringing seafood and ribs and sausages and steak until you begged them to stop.I would say the pork ribs are the best I have ever eaten, they steam them at 60 degrees c for 24 hours and then baste t and BBQ them .
The Italian and Thai restaurants are fabulous ,the Thai restaurant had a function on one lunch time but they sat us in the Italian restaurant and brought the Thai menus over and allowed us to order Thai.
Breakfast is very nice and very good variety. We looked forward to it every day.
The library, computer room is a good touch and you get to hire movies which you can watch in your room.
You could make merit on the beach front at 6am if you wanted to get up and the hotel would donate one basket and you buy one.The monks will say a prayer over you as you kneel in the beach sand. One must cover all bases in the religion stakes
The gym is good but not very user friendly but it gets you by.
Yes I will be back because they owe me a double upgrade.
The only sour point of the trip was Pinnochio in reception.

Room Tip: Slap pinnochio at reception when he lies to you

If you like new modern and hip this is a great hotel. If you are looking for thai then this is not the place. It reminds me of the shoreclub or delano in south beach but without the noise and hyperness ( at least in low season). The rooms are well sized ( could be a bit larger) and the one we had has a great view of the ocean. Our teenage daughters had the cheaper room which was large and no view ( they are spoiled enough just getting here) but there room was larger. The setup is ultra modern and W style. ( my personal beef is that all new hotels are using translucent doors to the bathrooms which allow light to flood the room if you get up at night- not sure why this design concept is used but it is not great for couples who sleep at night- end of rant).

The staff and personal butlers are awesome and i really got the sense that the entire staff knew us and catered to our requests. When there were minor problems they were fixed right away. A great stay but it must be your taste

We stayed in this hotel solely for a getaway and the Intercon definitely gave us an unforgettable experience during the two-night stay.

Excellent and spacious room with a balcony overlooking breathtaking sea-view. The Bose hi-fi was another remarkable amenity. Newspaper every morning.

Exceptional hotel facilities: different pools including Jacuzzi, and sufficient armchairs nearby. Nobody would disturb you. Unlimited supply of bottled water and towels. All you need to do is enjoy the sunshine and sunset. The hotel also offers free yoga class in the early morning. Fitness centre is on the first floor. Treadmills are installed with TV sets.

The staff at the lobby are really welcoming and they would suggest places to go every night. The night market near Marriott was unexpectedly memorable - a local night market without much tourists. Whenever you go out, you won't need to worry about the transportation as they would arrange everything. However, as the hotel is not close to the city centre, the transportation fee would be another expense.

Overall, an excellent holiday resort. Would certainly visit again and would definitely recommend to friends.

Pool is really cool.
Only downside was kids club not the best.

This hotel is rather new, but it has done a good job! Staff service is excellent.
Rooms are beautiful, with design oozing the influence and blend of Thai and modern contem. The junior suite is located at top floors, overlooking the estate with ocean view.
It has quite a large verandah with a private jacuzzi (warm/cold), complete with motorized rotor blinds to shade from the sun. Go for this room, it is worth the extra bucks with the butlers, view, privacy, space. There is in room Bose system, hook up our ipod/iphone and sound flows through the spacious room.
The pool is beautiful, many cabanas surrounding the pool and plenty of lounge bed. Connected to it, is an outdoor jacuzzi, which has both hot and cold water. Extremely relaxing as it help soothes aches away and also help warm you up before swimming. At night, you have to see the lighting of the pool yourself. It's just cool!
Every Sat, there is a BBQ seafood buffet for dinner, 1600++ per person.I highly recommend it as you sit by the pool restaurant, vocal jazz band playing, feel the ocean breeze. The food is cooked just for you by a grill chef, nothing is cooked and left to dry. Yes, it is all you can eat. The gym is very well equipped, with cardio machines by leading brands such as life fitness, so it is as good as any commercial gym. Parking is also rather important for me when i choose a hotel, and intercontinental did a great job by having an underground parking space, so your car is safe from the sun and rain. The garage is very neat and spacious, no worries about your precious car getting nicked. This is one hotel where you can travel to in style.( For some reasons, other hotels like to have your car bake under the hot sun by not having a proper parking lot)

Room Tip: Try not to get rooms that are too close to the ocean side restaurants, because some day there might...

We had an extra night in Thailand in between flights so we decided to go to Hua Hin (took a taxi going from Bangkok and the train coming back). The Intercontinental looked good online so we booked a room for a night. Overall it was great. The room was fantastic, with a huge lanai that could have been a second room unto itself. The best part of the hotel is the network of pools and sunken sitting areas in and around the pools. Landscaping also first class. The only negative is that the hotel overcharges or tacks on additional charges for just about everything (e.g., extra charge for children staying in a room even without an extra bed, service charge tacked onto a buffet, the only suntan lotion in the gift shop being priced at $100, etc). The beach is decent but not great. All in all, though, it is a fun hotel and kids in particular will enjoy the pools. Taking the train to Bangkok from the classic Hua Hin railway station recommended.

Room Tip: Top floor in main (center) building has best view.

I've been there last year with a friend and it was one of the best travel experience with nice and friendly staff. I love the pool and the ambiance. Nice and clean rooms and all face the beach. The location is ok near many other attractions like the night market, temples, the train station. I'm planning to travel again next month and will be staying there for sure.
