“Pleasant hotel with a great location”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

Overall, the stay at this hotel was pleasant. We upgraded to a seaview room on the 6th floor and it was worth it. The room is quiet and you can see the sea but mind you, don't expect a full view of the sea. The room is generally clean but needs a few improvements:

1. Towels need to be changed. They are tattered and torn at the edges and colour has "faded" from white to light grayish.
2. Unable to stand while showering in the bath tub unless you dun mind getting the entire bathroom dripping wet.
3. Water in mineral bottles in the fridge are refilled instead of bottled mineral water.

The aircon in the room is facing the door instead of the bed and takes a while before the room cools down to the right temp.

Location of the hotel is fantastic because it's near everything. Near the night market, grand night market, etc. In the night market, there's a little artsy corner where one can bring a guitar and do a little performance there. Little quaint stalls selling interesting accessories and nice clothing. Nice little corner to chill out and walk around in a clean space in contrast to the market. There's a market right in front of the hotel as well. Not sure abt the food as I have yet to try them.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 602. Nice little view of the sea and quiet.

This is hotel is in a great location with most things easy walking distance - markets, restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and the beach. The rooms are a good size with comfortable beds, good air con and wifi and views over the city. We loved the rooftop pool and it was a great way to finish the day with a swim on the roof pool as the sun was going down.
The breakfast was average but you can just walk outside and go and eat at the market a few doors down.
And the staff were friendly and helpful.

Friendly staff, big rooms, odd showers (only for pygmees), nice rooftop swimming pool. Even though we were checking out a day earlier and didn't expect it, we got a refund (leaving earlier had nothing to do with the hotel)

Stayed for 2 nights and the service was good. The location is excellent. Near to train station, night market and minivan station to Bangkok. All in walking distance. It is near to the Muslim food stall/restaurant. Only 2 complaints. 1. The aircond in our room (406) was placed at the wrong direction. It's facing the the alley/door. It should be on a bit left or facing the bed. 2. Mineral water was not top up on 2nd day.

The staff were friendly. Allowed us to use the rooftop pool even though we have yet to check in. They also allowed us to use the relaxing room without requesting it. Breakfast was basic. The deco was nice and the space in the room is just nice. It's worth it.

It's near to beach but not a long beach. Just nice if want to walk on the pier and take some photo.

Will definitely stay there if go to Hua Hin again. Thumbs up.

- Wonderful rooms, just perfect for a cuple, very romantic
- Nice located
- Roof pool, lounge and Bar
- Friendly, helpful, clean
- Do not go north at the beach; you will feel sorry and sad
- Go to the bazar and buy the nicest drapery, soap an enjoy best food
- We at an intire fish for 140 bath - no english possible - and we loved it.
- Take the "real royal train" from Bangkok to come here. 70 bath for two. The nicest travel in a train you will ever experience: everithing is made out of wood inside, pass through rice fields, monks reading and meditating, open windows and open doors all trough over the train. Bether than every coffee-comercial. Wind, spices from kitchens you pass by, tempels, palm tree, wather buffalos... and and and.

We didn't like the beach, especially north. Dirty water, stones, glass, waste, soap/foam and more - you do not want to know - from the hotels. Did not like to walk into poor peoples privacy. They live at the beach and i felt disturbing them; they felt observed. I didn't mean it; felt like a tourist enjoing waching poor people. Everyone is aware about the poorness in Thailand. But it isn't necessary to walk by as if they would be part of a zoo.

Room Tip: We had room number 305 - sideview. Quiet, romantic, clean, perfect.

Calelarn Hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the night market and near a lot of shops, massages and beauty salons - however it's quite a trek to the beach. The road it's on couldn't really be described as quiet either, so the location is only good for those who want to be right by the night market.

The hotel itself has nice, tasteful decor throughout and it seems modern and newly decorated, but also has a classical Thai feel to it.Overall it's a very pleasant place to walk around.

One of the best facilities of the hotel is the pool on the roof, with a great view over Hua Hin and a raised jacuzzi which kids can enjoy jumping off into the main pool (which is perfectly safe, by the way, as the jacuzzi overhangs the pool and the depth is 1.7m at this point). There is also a swim up bar, but strangely no staff are ever there to serve guests, despite the pool being quite busy - we went back to use our room's phone to call someone up, but then when the staff came there were no drinks in the bar to serve! To the great credit of the staff, he went outside and bought beers for us from a nearby shop, but then when we went to the pool the next day, still no staff or drinks... you'd have thought that they would have remedied this situation after the first time.

The rooms are fine with a large, comfortable bed and very nicely decorated. Bathrooms are good with a nice rain-effect shower.

We didn't try the hotel's restaurant apart from breakfast (we tried to have lunch there on the first day but it was closed). The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment, with instant coffee, no fresh coffee available, boiled ham and frankfurter style sausages, eggs, and not much else - there were a few items geared towards Thai or other Asian guests such as green curry and sweet and sour chicken, but the selection for western guests was quite limited.

Service was friendly and very helpful, with examples such as the beers in the pool as mentioned earlier showing that they're willing to go the extra mile to help guests feel welcome and comfortable.

Overall, Chalelarn Hotel is good value for the rates charged, and a good option for people who don't need to stay right on the beach.

Chalelarn Hotel Hua Hin Thailand
A modern, mid-priced hotel, doing all the right things.

Situated mid-way between Hua Hin’s main road and the beach, Chalelarn Hotel [not to be confused with Baan Chalelarn Hotel, not far away] at 53/1 Soi Phaenphan, Naepkhahat Rd, may look sterile and modern from outside, however the interior has been gracefully decorated to give the impression of thoughtful consideration to art and culture.
Reception staff were efficient, not effusive…and check-in was quick. Our room was adequate in size, pleasantly decorated and lit. Bathroom was modern, and stocked with good towels. Large bed provided good quality sleep.

For its size this hotel provides amazing rooftop pool area. Nice little spa sits high over the good-sized pool, looking out to sea. A small bar and lounging area. At other end, lots of timber tables looked out over town and hills. Great viewing platform.
Breakfast area was adequate, but surprisingly limited in variety of fare to eat.

Eating…forget about the tourist rip-off night market. Although many more restaurants have opened there over the last few years, prices do not equate to quality, or value for money. Still nice to wander the stalls for bargains and bartering. A ten-minute walk from the hotel, over the main central road, towards the railway station.

Eating….right out front of hotel is superb eating in the cosy night market, for those willing to accept eating with the locals. A man barbeques whole fish to order…a fifteen minute wait, whilst his wife sets the table with utensils and condiments. Other stalls offer all sorts of excellent Thai food, at local prices.
Almost at the hotel front door was a tiny stall with a man making deep-fried spring rolls…with banana inside! Delicious!. 7-Eleven and Family stores surround the hotel.

For wine lovers…Central Wine Cellars at Soi 55/1 has large selection at reasonable prices. 5 minutes from hotel towards main central road.
Although very attentive and efficient, if staff only smiled a bit and seemed happy in their work, it would ensure Chalelarn Hotel would achieve the highest rating, as the internal physical appearance and amenities are great.
