A lovely, peaceful resort for relaxing. Excellent service, staff is extremely helpful - even helped us find a used lap top when ours broke. Not a place for party people which was what my mother and I were looking for. Super comfortable beds. The welcome drink (which you can buy later at the bar too) is delicious.

Wanting to get away for a few days, but not travel to far from Bangkok - we headed in the direction of Hua Hin. Don't be mistaken, Hua Hin - lacks polish. It's a little ramshackle, a little dirty and the beaches, well - could do with a tidy up of rubbish. But overall if you need a quick, quiet beach break away from Bangkok Hua Hin is a good choice.

BOOKING:
Through a booking site and was very efficient, we had no issues with the room being available and the price was excellent.

FIRST IMPRESSION:
My son was a little concerned when we turned into this tiny alley off the main road - but once you arrive at the gates of the hotel everything changes. It is an oasis - wonderful Thai style houses, buried amongst an amazing garden of tropical trees and flowers.
The staff are typical Thai - very welcoming, friendly and the manager speaks excellent English (NOT very common)
It was interesting to have your room fully charged at time of check-in, this I was not expecting - but it was no big deal.

ROOM:
We were in the 2 story villa. This is at the end and the space is amazing! The room is very clean and everything works, modern clean bathrooms, good furniture, everything that you could want. The terrace on this villa is the smallest and only enough room for 2 chairs and small table, it would have been nice to have our own lounges like the pool villas - but it was no big deal.
My only complaint would be the beds - the 'sofa beds' downstairs are VERY uncomfortable, very hard, making sleep almost impossible, they would benefit from another mattress being put on top of them for guests who use the villa to sleep 4. Lucky for us beach massage was great value at 300BHT.

FOOD:
Breakfast is simple and fresh, with fresh fruit, cereal, toast, yogurt, juices - and a daily special. I don't know why others have complained - really what do you want? If you are looking for an american or english style breakfast, there is a small restaurant a 5 minute walk away that serves english full breakfast.
All the food we tried at the hotel was excellent. The Thai satay burgers were a HUGE hit with the boys, I think they had one everyday.

LOCATION:
You are very close walk to the beach - yes it really is just 50 meters. The beach is more of a locals beach, but if you walk down toward the rocky outcrop there are beach lounges to rent 50BHT for the day - we got 2 for 80BHT and there are a few small restaurants. Some nicer than others - I guess the tourist $$$ is moving in as we could see development going on.
On the main road, again 50meters, there is a few small restaurants, some street food vendors - all the food we tried was good. There are 2 small local stores selling general bits and bobs, a 7eleven and a larger local supermarket all within a 5 minute walk.
Overall great location, the taxi buses run regularly - so getting further out is no problem.
We did venture down to the more popular tourist beach on the other side of the rocky outcrop - but quickly came back to the beach near the hotel.
If you have some time, take a walk at the end of the beach to the seafood market row - here is where the fishing boats come in and they will cook anything right in front of you. We had amazing HUGE prawns at less than half of what you would pay at the night markets.

OVERALL:
This is a wonderful retreat, it is small and private and with the wonderful trees and flowers, like a garden of eden. Our villa was of an excellent standard - apart from the sofa beds! The staff are wonderful and attentive. It is like a home away from home.
I would absolutely stay here again, it is one of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed and I have stayed at a lot of places. It is nice place for people who have children (PLEASE if you do remember this is a quiet place ....)

PROS:
Location to the beach. Standard of accommodation. Service and Food. Price. Staff - just amazing! We had a luggage issue with the Ibis hotel in Bangkok, the manager here fixed it for us and got us our bag. The Ibis hotel did NOTHING! She was/is amazing.

CONS:
Sofa beds - not really suitable to sleep on for stays over 1 or 2 nights. Wi-fi - because of the layout, wifi will not work inside most of the rooms. Reception by the pool and in the restaurant is best, so it is not big deal.

TIPS:
Room 11 - nice big terrace with lounges and at the end of the pool. More private than the other 2 pool villas and gets some morning sun.
Room 14 - large raised terrace, overlooking the pool. This is in the middle of the row of 3 villas. Terrace seems to be in the shade all day.
Room 15 - the first of the pool villas. Low terrace on the pool edge that seems to get morning sun.
Massage: Hotel massage was good at 550BHT - normal hotel price. At the end of the beach as you walk up to the golden statue, there is a open air terrace overlooking the ocean - the ladies here do a nice massage for 300 THB. There is also massage in the evening just before you get to the beach - again 300THB and great for an evening relax with the sea breeze.
Monkeys: Don't miss walking to the end of the beach to see the monkeys playing - DON'T have any food or drink in your hands!!! But this is a great thing to see.
Seafood: Walk to the end of the beach and go where the fishing boats come in, choose your catch and have it cooked in front of you. Simple and delicious!
Markets: The night markets are a must go to - but it is not Bangkok, prices are higher, most stalls will not bater and it tends to be overpriced. We went once - but did not bother to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms 11, 14 & 15 are pool villas with nice large terrace, table and chairs and 2 sun-lounges.

We spent here 12 days. The hotel has 16 very nice bungalows placed about 7 km of the centre of Hua Hin.Is very clean and personal very friendly. Is true that the beach is 50 m walk but is available only in the afternoon because of sea water. If you walk 30 min you can reach Takiab beach where you can rent sunbed for 50 thb/day and there are some terraces where you can eat very basic. The hotel provides shuttle for takiab beach and night market. We liked it but we don t think come again.

We recently spent one night in this charming hotel and wish we could have stayed longer. It is not in the centre of Hua Hin but the hotel offers transfers or will be happy to arrange transport if you ask. You can also hire a scooter to avoid the busy Hua Hin traffic. We brought our own car and there was ample parking available just in front of the hotel (the street to the hotel is a tight squeeze but all part of the adventure). The hotel itself is surrounded by local thai houses but when you enter the front door, you are in a tropical paradise! Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by friendly and accommodating staff. The lovely welcome drink in a coconut shell really put us in the holiday mood. The staff always anticipated our needs from providing mozzie coils to delivering dinner menu's and other items directly to our lovely bungalow to save us the effort. They noticed we were enjoying a bottle of wine with two normal glasses and delivered wine glasses to us - without us even having to ask. The staff really make this place special - they are clearly well trained and very proud to work at this lovely hotel. The pool area was very nice and well maintained and we really appreciated the abundant greenery and quaint eating areas.

Breakfast was a nice selection of pastries, bread, jams, etc and fruits and you could also order a full cooked breakfast from a menu (all included in the price of the room). I had the scambled eggs with sausage and bacon and it was to a great standard. We had a set menu for dinner (new years eve) which was a 4 course thai meal and great value for money. We had decided to make this new years a quiet and relaxing one and we were not disappointed. We happily lounged about on our bungalow terrace and the staff brought a celebratory glass of wine for new years and also invited us to do some fire crackers and wave the sparklers around to see the new year in.

Our bungalow was in typical thai style with beautiful teak fixtures (our bungalow could sleep up to 4 people although we were only 2). The ammenities in the room were to a good standard and there was also a fully stocked mini-bar in a HUGE fridge (space to keep your other items as needed). There was also a sink area and microwave, along with two seperate bathrooms. The bungalow was very clean and beautifully presented with windows looking out onto the pool area.

This hotel is very well managed (and management were always available to the guests) - having stayed at many hotels across the world, we think this place is one of the nicest boutique style hotels and in our opinion, beyond a 3 star rating in terms of personalised service and quality of staff and the comfort of the accommodation. We will be back again very soon - and this time it will be a longer stay!

We have stayed at Ruen Kanok a number of times and are always treated with the greatest hospitality. A genuinely relaxing little retreat with tastefully designed and decorated traditional Thai-style bungalows. Everyone we have brought here has been very much satisfied and you can't help but leave feeling much more serene!

Best,
Regan Suzuki

My husband Ron and I spent several days at the Ruen Kanok in Sept. 2012 and we visited there in Dec. 2011. We love this quaint, charming resort. Staff was wonderful in their service noticing mosquitoes coming out and providing insect coils, towels for the pool and umbrellas when it rained. Loved the pool and the greenery, landscaping and fragrance "to die for". Refreshing get away from busy Bangkok. Everyone spoke English and most helpful about local eateries, shopping areas and sights to see. At this time of year in cold Winnipeg we can only dream of this paradise.
Sincerely, Phyllis Reader Canada

Ruen kanok is the perfect little rest centre about 7km from Hua HIn central in a little place called Khao Takieb. Very quiet location with lots of little homely eateries dotted about the main road make eating in the evening very relaxed and enjoyable as this place doesn't serve evening food ( check out Romm Mai, 15min walk towards Hua HIn).
10 lovely little Thai houses surrounding a pool area with lots of trees and vegetation very peaceful and very clean. The Staff are happy and seem very proud to work here and would go out of there way to look after us. Again owner and manager Jam was very hands on and couldn't be more helpful. It's was so nice to be somewhere where you genuinely felt you were being looked after rather than being in a machine of a hotel.
Just what the doctor ordered for our 1st honeymoon destination. Can't recommend enough.
Thank you to Jam and all her staff.
