Stay for 1 night as weekend break from Bangkok.

Well. I have no complain, but also have no praise. The hotel is clean and comfortable Thai style with International standard. Breakfast is ok.

May be I feel that it has no character or impressive aspect.

Went here with friends, all girls. A rather smallish place with an average pool. The beach is not really that nice, as it is below the boundary wall of the resort, the deck chairs are on their property i.e the garden. A quite place with clean rooms and good service, but not for anyone who is into the beach scene. Although the breakfast was good but used to be crowded. Please be careful while walking around though, snakes on the property and mosquitoes and bugs.....

Room Tip: Be careful as snakes on the property so watch where you tread!

This is our third visit to the idylic Anantara, Hua Hin. We were a bit apprehensive about spending a whole month in one place but it has been time well spent!

Our arrival was amazing. After nearly 24 hours travelling door-to-door we felt immediately at home by the wonderful greeting and cold towels and drink. We were welcomed "to our second home in Thailand" and during the stay it was just that, a second home.
Having travelled and stayed in hotels in many places during the latter years of my working life this place is and remains THE VERY BEST! It's sometimes very easy to spend time finding things to complian about rather than take time out to reflect on all the good things about this Resort.

The overall impression when you walk round the Resort is one of a Thai village with lush tropical gardens that are amazing and full of colour and tended by what appear to be team of devoted Gardeners. Being an keen gardener myself I can appreciate the work that goes into making this tropical paradise. It's wonderful and something other reviewers have commented on.

We were fortunate to stay in a room overlooking the Beach. Superb room and a joy to wake each morning to the sound of the Ocean lapping the shore. The lady who took care of us, cleaning our room, changing the sheets was an absolute gem. Thank you Won.

I suppose the BIG thing about this Report are the people, all of them, no exceptions. They embrace their Guests with an openess that I have never found elsewhere with the great big plus, their smiles and greetings every time you pass one another. There have been some changes but, I suppose that's inevitable but it wasn't something that detracted from our stay at all. In fact this stay was even better than last time and that was pretty amazing too.

Am I a fan of this place. You had better believe it.

What about the food and drink?

Breakfast is amazing. It would appear that wherever you come from in the world there is something to tempt your taste buds. I've never found this before in any hotel. Another thing is, it's good, fresh and plentiful.

We dined in the Beach restaurant Sai Thong, the Italian, Bhan Thalia quite a few evenings and as usual the choice and quality and service was first rate. Prices? Of course they'll be more expensive than eating outside but, that's the same in any country, not just at the Anantara. When ate out we were given invaluable advice of where to go, and they even called to make reservations. We also had High Tea each afternoon. The good thing is it gave us the opportunity to meet other interesting and friendly Guests. The service was first rate, the food exceptional, but as is the case at the Anantara, the people serving you, exceptional. Thank you for looking after us Kit and your colleagues at the Lagoon Bar

In a nutshell, what makes this Resort so special to us is, the people. They are, without doubt the best, most welcoming, friendly people we have come across during any of our many holidays.

.

Room Tip: Lagoon and Seaview rooms have the best ambiance

The Anantara continues to be the most beautiful setting for a relaxing holiday BUT - there is a serious Management problem. In the earlier years the Staff integrated with the guests all of the time, now they appear to be under orders to distance themselves and not get too involved with guests. Many of the little touches that made it so special have disappeared, and there has been an exodus of most of the Staff that made the Hotel so special, Staff that were very professional in their work are being replaced by inexperienced Staff that run around like headless chickens. Alex who has been at the Anantara all the years that we have been going there, works so hard to maintain a good rapport with guests, but I'm afraid he is fighting a losing battle. Free WiFi is available in the Reception area and Library, but you are charged for it in your Room and other areas, not acceptable when you can get it free in most other Hotels and outlets in Hua Hin. I don't know where Hans S (see review) bought his drinks from, but we were paying 140Bht for one small Singha Beer at the Anantara. Needless to say we soon stopped buying when you could buy down town for 32Bht in the shops, and never more than 90Bht in any Restaurants we ate in. Guests always used to receive Newsletters of activities and special Dining Evenings, that has been stopped and so you haven't a clue what is going on. Management appears to have taken the decision to stop issuing the customary Questionaire at the end of your stay, either in hard copy or e.mail form, seems they no longer want to know your feelings.
This is a 5* Hotel, and needs to return to its former caring role for its guests, it is far from cheap for us to travel thousands of miles only to find that what was a Jewel is becoming dulled by lack of attention to the little things that matter. Regrettably it is time to move on to another Hotel, such a shame.

Room Tip: Sea view Rooms attract the sea breezes and therefore are in a cooler location

Stayed here for a work conference, the hotel and service is very high quality. Drinks are a tad on the expensive side when you compare it to Thailand prices in general. Beach is not that great but neither are many of the other beaches in hua hin, I would recommend going to the islands.
