I stayed in the hotel in September, and as a Travel Agent, will try to give you a good all round view.
The Anantara Hotel is lovely, we really enjoyed in. The service was fantastic, all the staff no matter what department were lovely, friendly and happy.
We upgraded to the Lagoon Room, which was amazing. A double bath, walk in shower, and a lovely balcony area. When we stayed, the Lagoon rooms had their own pool, which was lovely and quiet. There was no bar there, and it was very very hot, so the main pool area was better as it was a little closer to the beach.
The beach area is very limited, so the sunbeds are within the grounds of the hotel, and on the edge of the beach at a higher level. The advantage is the beach sellers cannot pester you. The sea was warm if a little murky at times.
The breakfast at the hotel was lovely, the omelettes fantastic, as is the fresh fruit.
There is nothing outside the hotel directly. The hotel offer a shuttle service down into Hua Hin. There is not a lot in Hua Hin, lots of back streets, with tacky shops and restaurants. We did not go down that much, as we felt there was not much to do. The nightmarket was very small, and something and nothing really.
The hotel have lovely restaurants, and quite often have set menu specials. Lunches are great, if a little expensive by Thai standards, but not by British standards.
You can do the floating market from Hua Hin, it is a little closer to do it from Hua Hin rather than Bangkok. This is worth doing. There really is not much cultural sites around Hua Hin area.
Would I return to the hotel - yes I would, but look to get a deal on lunches/dinners. As we enjoyed the hotel so much, we went to Anantara in Koh Samui.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The 187-room Anantara Resort Hua Hin is a distinctive Thai village-style property located on the sunrise coast of the Gulf of Thailand, around 220 kms south of Bangkok. Hidden amidst 14 acres of luxuriantly landscaped gardens and lagoon pools, the picturesque resort enjoys a beachfront location at the quiet end of Hua Hin's long sandy beach for only 5 kms. from Hua Hin town centre. A three-meters high terracotta wall cleverly cocoons the resort from the hustle and bustle of town. As you make your way along the landscaped driveway, a sense of calm descends. The sense of arrival is heightened as you admire a decorative wall adorned with a parade of elephants. A cool breeze drifting in from the beach floats through the open-air Lobby with the strains of a melodic Thai tune lingering. Polished timber floors and Thai-style salas (pavilions) heighten the ambience of an intimate tropical hideaway. ... more less
